Hulu in China: Can You Watch U.S. Hulu or The Orville?
U.S. Hulu does not offer a mainland Chinese subscription. The Hulu tile on Disney+ in other markets can make this confusing. If you want one series, identify its Chinese title and season first. If you already pay for U.S. Hulu, check whether the problem concerns the catalogue, a live channel or your bill.

Why a Hong Kong search result looks so convincing
Try searching for The Orville. A Chinese-language Disney+ result calls it 奧維爾號 and lists episodes, including the finale of season three. Its address contains zh-hk. That is the Hong Kong catalogue. Disney began using Hulu as its general-entertainment brand on Disney+ internationally in 2025. A Hulu logo there identifies a collection within that country’s Disney+ service. It does not sell the American Hulu account or its Live TV channels. Disney’s international Hulu brand announcement
Three checks before you watch
Match the season
New Horizons is season three. For mainland search, use 奥维尔号 第三季 and compare the episode title.
Look for the full episode
预告片 means trailer. Check for a numbered episode and its runtime before signing up.
Keep the registered home network
For Hulu + Live TV, leave the existing household setting in place during a trip. A hotel connection does not establish that household.
Look up the season you actually want
Hulu calls the later season The Orville: New Horizons. For a mainland catalogue search, try 奥维尔号 第三季, then check the episode title against the Hong Kong episode guide or Hulu’s production page. We found the Hong Kong listing. We could not confirm a mainland provider selling that season. If a local service offers it later, check its own playback screen and audio choices before paying for a month.
Keep your home network when you travel
For an existing U.S. account, write down which feature stopped working. An on-demand series and a live local station use different rules. Hulu asks Live TV subscribers to designate a residential home network, which helps determine their local channels. Setting a Shanghai hotel as your new home would address the wrong problem and could affect viewers at home. Hulu Live TV home network rules
If the error specifically mentions location, record the exact wording and whether it appeared before sign-in, when choosing a channel, or after pressing Play. An American IP address cannot establish that the hotel is the particular household registered for Live TV. Hulu subscriber agreement
How to pay for Hulu from China: which U.S. ZIP code do I use?
At Hulu’s card checkout, enter the five-digit ZIP code of the billing address your bank has on file for your U.S.-issued card. If your only card was issued in mainland China, entering an American ZIP will not make it eligible for direct Hulu billing. U.S. Hulu does not sell a mainland China subscription. Our 2022 Windows walkthrough shows 92010 in the ZIP field. Use that number only if it matches your own billing address. Keep all five digits, including any leading zero. A six-digit Chinese postcode cannot be converted into a U.S. billing ZIP.
Paying Hulu directly with an eligible U.S. card
If you meet Hulu’s sign-up requirements, choose a plan, sign in or create your account, then select card payment. Find the billing address on your card statement or in your bank app, enter its ZIP alongside your card details, and check the price and renewal date before confirming. For an existing subscription, check who bills you in your Hulu account. If a partner appears there, update the card with that partner.
If your card is declined
- U.S.-issued card: If Hulu flags the ZIP, compare it with the address on your latest statement, especially if you recently moved. If it matches, check the expiry date and security code. Ask your issuer whether it received the authorization before retrying.
- Mainland-issued card: Bank of China offers international Visa and Mastercard cards for overseas online purchases. Their issuing country still matters to Hulu. Check the written setup guide on the phone or computer you will use. A device connection does not move your Hulu Live TV home or supply a Hulu subscription.

Common questions
Does switching the Hulu interface to Chinese change where I can watch?
No. A language choice changes menus or preferences. For a licensed local showing, you need a mainland listing for the particular season.
Can I use the Hong Kong episode list to choose a Chinese subscription?
Use it to identify an episode and its Chinese title. Pay only if the mainland provider you plan to use identifies that same episode and its viewing terms.
