New to USip?
Before you start, you need a USip account with Smart DNS access.
Use the service login details from your “Your Account is Ready” email. If you are new to USip or unsure about your access, ask Support before setting up your TV.
STEP 1 OF 3
Register your home connection
This lets USip recognise the internet connection your TV or console will use.
- Connect your phone or computer to the same home network as your TV or console. On a phone, use Wi-Fi and turn mobile data off. A computer can use Wi-Fi or Ethernet. Turn off the phone or computer’s VPN.
- Open the USip setup wizard, choose your device, then select “I am on the same home network →”.
- Enter the Service username and Service password from your welcome email, then select Register connection.
Your public IP is registered automatically. You do not need to find or type it. Register again if your public IP changes.
STEP 2 OF 3
Add the USip DNS address
Note your current DNS settings first. Then change DNS only on your device or router and save the change.
- Primary DNS
199.217.105.18- Secondary DNS
- Leave blank or use
0.0.0.0
If your device refuses both secondary options, contact USip Support. Leave all other network settings as they are.
Choose your device
Use your TV or console’s DNS setting if available. Otherwise, use your router. Router changes can affect other devices on your network.
Samsung TV
All Settings → Connection → Network → Network Status → IP Settings → DNS Setting → Enter Manually → DNS Server.
Older models may put Network under General. Enter the primary DNS address above and save.
LG webOS TV
All Settings → General → Network → your active Wi-Fi or wired connection.
Open Advanced Wi-Fi Settings or Edit, change DNS Server and select Connect. The path varies by webOS version.
Apple TV
Settings → Network → your active connection → Configure DNS → Manual.
Enter the USip DNS address, choose Done and restart Apple TV.
PlayStation 5
Settings → Network → Settings → Set Up Internet Connection → your connection → Advanced Settings → DNS Settings → Manual.
Enter the DNS address and keep the other working settings.
Xbox Series X|S or Xbox One
Settings → General → Network settings → Advanced settings → DNS settings → Manual.
Enter the DNS address and follow the prompts for your console version.
Nintendo Switch or Switch 2
System Settings → Internet → Internet Settings → your saved network → Change Settings → DNS Settings → Manual.
Enter the DNS address, save and test the internet connection.
Router
Open your router’s settings and find the DNS options. The exact path depends on the model.
TP-Link: Advanced → Network → Internet → Advanced Settings → DNS addresses. DSL models may use Advanced → Network → LAN Settings. TP-Link instructions.
ASUS: WAN → Internet Connection → WAN DNS Setting. Use Assign → Manual Setting, or turn off automatic DNS, depending on the firmware. ASUS instructions.
Save or apply the DNS change. If your internet provider manages your router, ask them how to change DNS.
Menus vary by model and software version. Manufacturer pages may show example addresses: use 199.217.105.18 for USip.
Using a router? Save the settings without restarting it. Reconnect the TV if needed. If the router requires a restart and your public IP changes, repeat step 1.
STEP 3 OF 3
Open your streaming app
Allow up to 15 minutes after setup. Reconnect or restart your TV or console if needed, then reopen the streaming app and try playing something.
Use your own streaming account and any subscription the service requires. These are separate from your USip subscription.
Find your streaming service guideSmart DNS is different from a VPN. You do not need OpenVPN Connect, and it does not provide VPN encryption. Your IP lookup can still show your usual country. Check playback on the device instead.
Something is not working?
It worked before, but stopped
Your public IP may have changed. Register your connection again, and check that the device still uses the USip DNS address.
There is no internet after changing DNS
Check the address for typing errors. If the connection is still unavailable, restore the previous DNS settings and contact USip Support.
The app is missing or will not play
Check that the streaming service supports your device and account. DNS does not install apps, change subscription eligibility or restore a discontinued app.
Need help?
Tell Support your device model, streaming service and exact error message. Also say whether DNS is set on the device or router and whether you have registered your current connection.
Contact USip SupportHow to undo the DNS change
Restore the DNS values you noted before setup, or choose automatic DNS if that was the original setting. Save and reconnect the device if needed.
Restoring router DNS can affect other devices on your network.

Smart DNS questions
Which USip login details should I use?
Use the Service username and Service password from your “Your Account is Ready” email when registering your connection.
Should I change DNS on the TV or router?
Use the TV’s manual DNS option to change only that device. Use the router if the TV or console has no DNS option. Router changes may affect other connected devices.
Which IP address am I registering?
The wizard registers your home internet connection’s public IP automatically. Use the same home network as your TV or console, with the registering phone or computer’s VPN off. You do not type the TV’s local IP address.
When do I need to register again?
Register again if your public IP changes. This can happen after switching networks, a power cut or a router restart. Recheck registration if a previously working setup stops working.
Does my IP address need to show the United States?
No. Smart DNS can leave your normal public-IP country visible. Check your saved DNS address, connection registration and playback in the streaming app.
Will every streaming app work on my console?
No. App availability, supported devices and subscription rules vary by service. These steps explain DNS setup; they do not guarantee every app or title will play.
Setting up a computer or phone?
For a residential US IP address on a computer, phone or tablet, use USip VPN with OpenVPN Connect and your USip profile.
