Most pages about this assume Canadians are missing the programmes. On the drama, they are not. The gap is somewhere else entirely.
Bell Media and Warner Bros. Discovery extended their arrangement on 8 October 2024, and the wording is unambiguous about who holds HBO in Canada:

Bell restated the position in March 2026, after the Paramount Skydance bid for Warner Bros. Discovery became news, saying Crave remains the home of HBO and HBO Max programming in Canada through a long-term deal. Neither party has ever published an end date, and this page is not going to invent one.
The part that surprises people is the timing. Bell Media’s own April 2026 schedule lists EUPHORIA from Sunday, 12 April at 9 p.m. ET and HACKS from Thursday, 9 April at 9 p.m. ET — the same slots as the American premieres. A Canadian watching HBO drama is not waiting.

One correction worth making, because it is everywhere: Crave is no longer the three-tier service that most comparison pages still describe. Crave Basic was renamed Crave Standard With Ads, there are two paid tiers, and the free ad-supported Bell Media account does not include HBO at all.
So the honest summary for Canada is narrow. If you want the programmes, Crave already has them, tonight. If you want HBO Max’s live sport, there is no Canadian product that sells it, because the rights behind it are American.

Canada is the conspicuous absence on that list: the country next door to the one HBO Max was built for, and the only large English-speaking market in the Americas without it. The reason is not technical or regulatory. It is that the Canadian rights are already sold to somebody, and that somebody is Bell.

Two things follow that are worth separating. A subscription does not stop existing when you cross a border — billing, plan and profiles carry on. What changes is what the app will play, and in a country HBO Max does not serve, the answer is nothing.
The availability list is also the thing to check rather than trust second-hand. It is edited as markets launch, and it has lagged: Japan is getting HBO Max on 1 October 2026 inside Prime Video and Hulu, which is the kind of change that reaches the press before it reaches the help centre.
