The rest of this page is about the U.S. library — the sports, the dates and the titles that did not come with the brand. If your country is in the bottom five: you have seen “Not available in your region yet.” There is no local HBO Max to subscribe to. What travels with a U.S. HBO Max account, and what does not
HBO Max says you can “stream HBO Max when you travel to a country or region where HBO Max is available.” It does not say you get the same HBO Max. The catalog “can change with the physical location.” Here is what that means in practice.

These are HBO Max’s two location messages. You get one of them when HBO Max decides it cannot serve you where it thinks you are. Its help page gives one explanation for both — and that explanation is the most useful sentence on this page.

“Not available in your region yet”
The same condition on other screens and apps. Either you are in a country where HBO Max is not sold, or your address is in a range HBO Max blocks.HBO Max’s own fix
“Disable your VPN, proxy, or anonymization service so that your IP address is not blocked.”
HBO Max recommends disabling a VPN or proxy when troubleshooting this error. That does not establish which address types its detection accepts.
What a residential VPN means. VPN describes the connection; residential describes the network used for its public IP address. USip VPN routes traffic through real U.S. home broadband. Your assigned public IP is used by one USip customer at a time. This does not guarantee that a streaming service will accept the connection or make every title available.
Why there is still no guarantee. HBO Max can add any address to its list. Its terms ask you not to do this at all. A residential IP is not an exemption from either fact; it is a different starting position. If you see one of these messages with a residential IP connected, treat it as a real result — go to “Fix the layer that failed” below, not to another server.

How to test US HBO Max outside the US, step by step
The goal is one clean result you can interpret, so that if something fails you know which layer failed.

Confirm what your account is entitled to
Before touching the network: which plan (Basic with Ads has no live sports and no downloads; Standard and Premium do), which billing route (HBO Max direct, an app store, or a provider), and whether the thing you want to watch is actually included. A residential IP cannot fix an entitlement you don’t have.02
Connect before you open HBO Max
On Windows, Mac, Android phones or iPhone/iPad, open OpenVPN Connect and connect using your USip profile and service credentials. The U.S. location is assigned automatically; you do not select a city or state. Verify the connected public IP before opening the streaming service. One simultaneous VPN connection is allowed.03
Use a clean browser session
A private window, on a computer. HBO Max stores country and device state in cookies and cached data; an old session can hand it your previous location. Sign in fresh. Do not restore tabs.04
Play a plain on-demand title before anything special
A standard series episode included in your plan. If that plays, the network, browser and basic account path are working. Only then try a live game, a new release, or a TV app — each of those has its own reason to fail that has nothing to do with the network.
If an ordinary title plays but another title or feature fails, check its rights, plan entitlement, billing route and device requirements. Record the exact error as well; one successful title does not rule out every connection or app issue.

When an included on-demand title plays in a clean browser, record that success as a baseline for comparing the failing title or device.

- Your account country, billing country, app-store country, or profiles
- Any licence, release window, live-sports entitlement, blackout or event territory
- HBO Max’s terms, which ask you not to use a VPN or proxy — or HBO Max’s ability to block any address
- The HBO Max app’s version, activation state, downloads or saved region on a device
Don’t cycle addresses to solve an account, plan or rights problem. A successful ordinary-title test is a useful clue, but it does not rule out every network, device or app issue.

Mac
Use private Safari or a current Chromium browser. If one browser works and another fails, inspect cookies, extensions, Private Relay and location permissions.
iPhone and iPad

Android phones, tablets and TV devices

Two things people get wrong. Basic with Ads has no live sports at all — if the MLB or NHL game is why you’re here, it needs Standard or Premium. And Premium’s four streams drop to two for sports. The sports lineup, per HBO Max: MLB, NHL, NCAA March Madness, NCAA football and basketball, U.S. Soccer, Roland-Garros, NASCAR, cycling, WEC, T100, Unrivaled and golf events. The NBA is not on HBO Max — some 2025 round-ups still list it; HBO Max’s own sports page does not. “Depending on your location, you won’t be able to stream some live games due to league blackout policies.”

Provider activation and store state survive a network change. Prove the account in a computer browser first.08

If a controlled test still disagrees with what HBO Max says should happen, HBO Max Help and whoever bills you are the authorities. Their rules change independently of USip.

Can I watch US HBO Max from the UK, Germany, Spain or anywhere else HBO Max is sold?
Your local HBO Max works where you are, but it shows the local library. The U.S. library — U.S. live sports, U.S. release dates and titles licensed elsewhere in your country — stays in the United States. A residential U.S. IP presents a U.S. location to HBO Max; it doesn’t change your account, plan or billing, and HBO Max can decline any address.
Can I watch HBO Max in Canada?
HBO Max is not sold in Canada; HBO content there is on Crave. Is HBO Max available in Japan, South Korea, India or the Middle East?
No — none of them are on HBO Max’s availability list as of this page’s last check. HBO Max says it “anticipates” more countries “in 2026 and beyond.” The situation is the same as Canada’s: the U.S. library is the only one, and a U.S. account is your own matter.
Why did my HBO Max library change when I travelled?
Because HBO Max serves the library for the country it detects. Its rule: the catalog “can change with the physical location.” Your subscription is fine; your location moved. A residential U.S. IP presents a U.S. location, which is the signal that picks the library.
What does “This is Uncharted Territory” mean on HBO Max?
It is one of HBO Max’s two location messages — the other is “Not available in your region yet.” HBO Max says they mean “your IP address might be blocked or is incorrectly identifying your location.” Either you’re somewhere HBO Max isn’t sold, or your address is in a range HBO Max blocks. Its own fix is to “disable your VPN, proxy, or anonymization service.”
Does HBO Max block VPNs?
HBO Max recommends disabling a VPN, proxy or anonymization service when troubleshooting a location error. USip VPN uses real U.S. home broadband, but it is still a VPN connection. A residential exit address does not exempt it from HBO Max’s restrictions or guarantee playback.
Is a residential US IP the same as a VPN?

Does a US IP guarantee the US HBO Max catalog?
No. It changes the location HBO Max reads. Every title still depends on your plan, your billing route, the licence for that title, its release window, and — for live games — the league’s blackout rules. HBO Max can also block any address it chooses.
Which HBO Max plan has live sports?
Standard ($18.49/month) and Premium ($22.99/month). Basic with Ads ($10.99) has none. Premium’s four simultaneous streams drop to two for sports. The lineup is MLB, NHL, NCAA March Madness, U.S. Soccer, Roland-Garros, NASCAR and others — not the NBA, whatever an older article says.
Does HBO Max have MLB, NHL or March Madness outside the US?
No. Live sports on HBO Max are part of the U.S. Standard and Premium plans. The European and other international services have their own sports in some markets and not the U.S. lineup. Even in the U.S., “you won’t be able to stream some live games due to league blackout policies.”
Can I keep my US HBO Max subscription while living abroad?
Your account keeps working where HBO Max is sold, showing the local library; where it isn’t sold, streaming stops and only downloads play. Billing country and payment method are between you and HBO Max or your app store, and a network address doesn’t change either.
Does USip include an HBO Max subscription?
No. USip is a residential U.S. network connection. HBO Max access, the plan, billing and every content right come from HBO Max or the company that bills you. Nothing here creates, pays for or upgrades an account.
Can an account created in another country become a US account by changing IP?
No. Account country and billing country are set when the account is created and by who bills it. A public IP changes what location HBO Max sees for the session, nothing about the account behind it.
HBO Max opens but won’t play abroad — why?
Opening a page and playing video use different checks. Verify the VPN connection on a computer or the registered public IP and Smart DNS settings on a TV, then the account, plan, app and title availability. Try an included on-demand title and record the exact error; its result is a diagnostic clue, not proof of a single cause.
One HBO Max title works and another doesn’t — what’s wrong?
Compare the titles’ regional licences, release windows, plan entitlements and blackout rules. Also record the exact error and compare the same title on the same device. One successful title narrows the investigation but does not rule out every network or app issue.
Why does HBO Max ask me to connect a provider?
Because the account is on a provider or bundle route and the benefit hasn’t been activated, or the provider doesn’t support it. A valid login isn’t an activated benefit. The provider’s activation page, not the network, is where that gets fixed.
Why test on a computer before a TV?
Because TV apps carry store country, activation and saved region that survive a network change, and the errors they show look like location errors when they aren’t. A private desktop browser has none of that state. Prove the account there first.
Is Max called HBO Max again?
