The app store answers before the network does — that is the whole problem

How to Watch AMC+ in Japan

Short answer: AMC+ is not sold in Japan. AMC's help centre lists its markets in one sentence — “AMC+ is available in: The US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand.” — and Japan is not one of them.

What makes Japan different from most guides on this site is where the wall appears. The usual first move is to search the App Store or Google Play for the app. From a Japanese account there is nothing to find: the AMC+ iOS app is a U.S. storefront listing. So the search returns an empty result, and an empty result tells you nothing about your connection — it is a fact about the account signed into your device.

That distinction runs through this entire page. A residential U.S. IP changes the network-location layer. It does not change which store your phone is signed in to, it does not create an AMC+ account, and it does not move a subscription bought through somebody else. Those are separate mechanisms with separate fixes, and two of them have no fix at all.

The list, before anything else

AMC+ runs in four markets and Japan is not one

AMC+ is not a US-only service — a phrase repeated so often it is worth correcting — but the list of markets is short and has not grown since 2022.

“AMC+ is available in: The US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand.”

AMC+ Help Centre — Where is AMC+ available?

Japan has never been on that list. AMC ran a wider international expansion in 2022 that included Korea and India, among others; neither appears in any current AMC territory list, and we found no AMC statement explaining what happened to them. We are telling you that rather than guessing at it.

AMC also notes that even inside its four markets the catalogue is not identical: “The content selection varies somewhat based on location, due to licensing restrictions.” Australia and New Zealand subscribers get, in AMC's own words, a different selection from the US and Canadian one. Reaching a storefront is not the same as reaching a title.

Why the obvious first step returns nothing

There is no AMC+ app in the Japanese store, and that is not a network fault

This is the section that saves Japanese readers the most wasted effort. The app store and the network are two different systems, and in Japan the store answers first.

The routes that exist elsewhere, and what each returns from Japan, checked 13 September 2026

RouteFrom a Japanese accountWhy
The AMC+ app on iOSNot listedThe app is published on the U.S. App Store. Which storefront you browse is set by the Apple account signed into the device, not by your connection.
The AMC+ app on Google PlayNot listedGoogle Play's country follows the Google account and its payment profile. A Japanese account browses the Japanese catalogue.
AMC+ as an Apple TV ChannelDoes not exist hereApple's own availability page lists AMC+ as an Apple TV Channel in the United States and Canada only.
AMC+ as a Prime Video ChannelNot offered on a Japanese accountChannel line-ups are per-marketplace. And a channel subscription is a separate product in any case — see below.
amcplus.com in a browserThe one route where the network layer is actually the questionNo storefront is involved at all, which is exactly why every test on this page starts in a desktop browser.

Read the table as a sequence rather than a list of options. Three of those five routes fail for reasons that have nothing to do with your IP address, and no connection setting changes any of them. Only the last line is a network question.

Separating what moves from what does not

A residential U.S. IP moves the network layer alone

AMC+ access is governed by four independent things. People treat them as one lock with one key, and that assumption is the source of nearly every stuck setup we get asked about.

What changes and what does not, for a reader in Japan, checked 13 September 2026

LayerMoved by a U.S. IP?What actually controls it
Network locationYesThe public address your traffic arrives from. The one layer a residential U.S. IP exists to address.
Which app store your device browsesNoThe Apple or Google account signed into the device, and its payment profile. This is the layer that blocks people first in Japan.
Holding an AMC+ accountNoAMC's terms restrict account creation to its territories by reference to where the person lives. An address creates no entitlement.
A subscription bought via Amazon, Apple or RokuNoSeparate products in AMC's own words. They stay with the platform that sold them.
Which titles are in the catalogueNoLicensing, per title, per market. AMC says the selection varies by location even among its own four markets.

If the app store is where you are stuck, a connection will not help, and we would rather say so on this page than take your money and let you find out afterwards.

Different companies, different products

Whoever takes the payment owns what you bought

AMC+ can be purchased directly from AMC, or as an add-on channel inside Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV or Roku. They carry the same name and are not the same thing.

“These add-on channel subscriptions cannot be combined, carried over, switched back and forth, or used on the AMC+ website or apps”

AMC+ Help Centre — add-on channels on other platforms

AMC is unusually direct about this. An add-on channel bought inside Prime Video is not AMC's app for Fire TV; an add-on bought through Apple is not AMC's app for Apple devices. They cannot be combined, carried over or switched between, and the one bought through a platform will not sign you in at amcplus.com.

For a reader in Japan this compounds with the storefront problem. If you acquire a platform-billed subscription on one account and then try to use it against a different account or a different app, you have created a second problem on top of the first, and neither is a network problem.

Cancellation follows the same logic. AMC's terms route you to Amazon, Apple, Google or Roku depending on who billed you. The company that took your money is the only one that can stop taking it.

What the connection layer is, exactly

A consumer address rather than a hosting range

This is the single layer a USip plan addresses, and the distinction inside it matters more than the label suggests.

Residential

An ordinary consumer address

An address on a U.S. consumer ISP's range — the kind an American household browses from. That is what presenting a network location honestly looks like at this layer.

Datacentre

Why the cheap route is unreliable

Commodity endpoints sit on hosting ranges that are simple to identify. Services categorise them separately from consumer addresses, which produces the works-then-stops pattern people describe.

Out of scope

What it does not touch

No account, no payment, no app store, no catalogue. In Japan the app store in particular is untouched, and that is the layer most people meet first.

AMC's streaming help centres publish their position on location-masking tools. The Acorn TV help centre — an AMC service — states: “Our service does not support VPNs, proxy connections, or other location-masking tools.” We quote it so you decide with AMC's own words available. Follow AMC+ terms, the billing-platform agreement, content licences and applicable law.

Answer the storefront question before the network one

Ten minutes, in an order that actually isolates things

In Japan the order matters more than anywhere else on this site, because the store will give you a misleading answer if you ask it first.

01

Ignore the app stores entirely for now

Do not search for the app. From a Japanese account it is not there, and the empty result tells you nothing about your connection. Starting here is what sends people down the wrong path.

02

Decide who would bill you

Direct with AMC, or a platform add-on through Amazon, Apple or Roku. These are different products that cannot be converted later. Settle it before anything else changes.

03

Connect before opening anything

Bring up the U.S. residential connection first and close any session that was already open. A session established on the previous address can keep using it and will confuse the result.

04

Verify the public address in a separate tab

Use an independent IP checker and confirm the United States rather than Japan. If this does not read correctly, nothing after it means anything.

05

Test in a desktop browser, private window

Windows or Mac, one ordinary on-demand title. This is the only route with no storefront in it, which makes it the only clean measurement of the network layer you can take.

06

Only then consider devices, one at a time

A phone or a television device reintroduces the store layer you have just been careful to exclude. Add them back individually, not together.

Where the store layer comes back

Four devices, and what each one adds to the test

The browser is the clean instrument. Every other device puts the app store back into the experiment.

Windows

The only genuinely clean measurement

Connection, public address, cookies — and nothing else. Connect, confirm a checker reports the United States, then open amcplus.com in a private window (Ctrl+Shift+N in Chrome and Edge, Ctrl+Shift+P in Firefox). No storefront is involved, so whatever happens here is about the network layer and only that.

Step by step: the Windows setup guide.

Mac

Clean too, once Private Relay is out of the way

macOS adds iCloud Private Relay, which can route Safari through a different path from the rest of the system and leave you with one browser working and another not. Switch Private Relay off for the duration, then use a private Safari or Chromium window.

Step by step: the Mac setup guide.

iPhone or iPad

This is the layer that stops people in Japan

The AMC+ app is a U.S. App Store listing, and a Japanese Apple account browses the Japanese store. That is a property of the account signed into the device. Apple's own availability page also lists AMC+ as an Apple TV Channel in the US and Canada only, so the TV-app route is not available here either. Test in Safari first.

Step by step: the iPhone or iPad setup guide.

Android

Google Play country, set by the account

Play's country follows the Google account and its payment profile rather than the network you are on. If you took the Prime Video Channels route, the entitlement sits with your Amazon account, which is a further separate thing. Confirm the public U.S. address before opening any of them.

Step by step: the Android setup guide.

Which layer is actually talking to you

Reading the symptom correctly

In Japan the most common mistake is reading a storefront result as a network result. This table is mostly about telling those two apart.

What Japanese readers ask us

AMC+ in Japan, answered plainly

Is AMC+ available in Japan?

No. AMC's help centre gives the markets as “AMC+ is available in: The US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand.” and Japan has never been among them.

Why can't I find the AMC+ app in the App Store?

Because the app is published on the U.S. App Store and your Apple account browses the Japanese one. Which storefront you see is decided by the account signed into the device, not by the network you are connected to. This is why the app search is the wrong first test.

If I change my connection, will the app appear?

No. The store region is a property of your Apple or Google account and its payment profile. It is one of the layers a connection does not reach, and pretending otherwise would waste your money.

Can I add AMC+ in the Apple TV app instead?

Not from Japan. Apple's own availability page lists AMC+ as an Apple TV Channel in the United States and Canada only. The route that works for some other services does not exist for this one here.

Is this a region code, like a DVD?

No, and the analogy misleads people. Nothing is encoded into a file. Three separate systems are being consulted: your network address, the account your device is signed in to, and whichever company holds your subscription. They are checked independently and they fail independently.

Would a residential U.S. IP get me AMC+?

It addresses the network-location layer. It does not create an account, change your app store, or move a subscription bought through a platform. In Japan the store layer is usually the one people hit first, and a connection does nothing for it.

What does AMC+ cost in the United States?

AMC lists Monthly with Ads at $7.99, Monthly Premium at $10.99 and Annual Premium at $109.99, effective 11 February 2026 for new subscribers. Downloads are a Premium-tier feature only.

Can I pay with a Japanese card?

AMC's terms ask for a valid payment method accepted by the relevant ecommerce site and say nothing about the country of issue. We searched for a billing-country requirement and found none. We are not going to turn that silence into a rule in either direction.

Can I use an AMC+ login on Shudder instead?

No. AMC states it plainly: “Your AMC+ sign-in credentials will not work on the individual site and apps for Shudder, Sundance Now, and AMC.” Shudder's content appears inside the AMC+ app, and an AMC+ account is not a Shudder account.

What exactly does amcplus.com show a Japanese visitor?

We do not know. We have not tested from a Japanese address and AMC publishes no such wording, so we are not going to quote a message we cannot source. The nearest primary evidence is the Acorn TV help centre, which documents a “Not Available in Your Region” message for Acorn TV and says that service does not support VPNs or proxies.

Does a USip plan include AMC+?

No. USip provides the connection only. AMC+ is a separate third-party service with its own subscription, terms and billing.

Three other starting points

AMC+ from other countries

Each of these markets lacks AMC+ for the same reason and gets stuck for a different one.

Every quote, traceable to its page

Sources for the claims above

Where we could not confirm something — what happened to AMC+ in Korea and India, and the exact wording amcplus.com shows a Japanese visitor — we left it as an open question.

Ask the network question, not the store question

An empty App Store search is not a verdict on your connection

Japan's version of this problem is a sequencing problem. The app store answers first, it answers emptily, and that answer has nothing to do with your network. People then spend money trying to fix a layer that was never the obstacle.

If you want AMC+ itself, the only route where your connection is actually the question is amcplus.com in a desktop browser, and a residential U.S. IP is what presents the network location its storefront reads. The account, the billing route and the store region all stay where they are — test the browser first and you will know which of those you are really dealing with.

Facts checked 13 September 2026. AMC+ is a third-party service and is not affiliated with USip. Availability, catalogues, prices and platform agreements change — follow AMC+ terms, the billing-platform agreement, content licences and applicable law.
