Five time zones, two hemispheres
U.S. prime time on Australian clocks
Philo is live American television, so its evening is America’s evening. Mainland Australia has five time zones while daylight saving runs, and the south moves its clocks in the opposite season to the United States — so the gap to New York changes four times a year in Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, Hobart and Adelaide, and twice in Brisbane, Darwin and Perth.
| 8 p.m. in New York is, the next day… | Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, Hobart | Adelaide | Brisbane | Darwin | Perth |
|---|
| 4 October – 1 November 2026 | 11 a.m. | 10:30 a.m. | 10 a.m. | 9:30 a.m. | 8 a.m. |
| 1 November 2026 – 14 March 2027 | 12 noon | 11:30 a.m. | 11 a.m. | 10:30 a.m. | 9 a.m. |
| 14 March – 4 April 2027 | 11 a.m. | 10:30 a.m. | 10 a.m. | 9:30 a.m. | 8 a.m. |
| 4 April – 3 October 2027 | 10 a.m. | 9:30 a.m. | 10 a.m. | 9:30 a.m. | 8 a.m. |
Every time in that table falls on the next calendar day: a Monday-night American broadcast is a Tuesday-morning event in Australia. Prime time on the U.S. West Coast — 8 p.m. in Los Angeles — arrives three hours later in every cell, which means 2 p.m. in Sydney now, 3 p.m. from 1 November, and 11 a.m. or noon in Perth.
Queensland, the Northern Territory and Western Australia keep one clock all year, so in Brisbane, Darwin and Perth only the American changes count. In Perth, East Coast prime time is a breakfast-hour event; in Sydney over summer it lands on lunch.
Times computed from the IANA Time Zone Database, version 2026a — the reference operating systems use. U.S. clocks change on 1 November 2026 and 14 March 2027; New South Wales, Victoria, the ACT, Tasmania and South Australia change on 4 April 2027 and again on 3 October 2027.
