Sling Orange
Built around ESPN, CNN, TNT and TBS, with more than 30 channels in all, by Sling’s count.
Short answer: Sling TV has no Canadian service. The page Sling shows to visitors from outside the U.S. says it in one line: “Sling TV, a live TV streaming service, is only available in the United States.” The Sling app was not in the Canadian App Store when we looked on 9 October 2026, and Sling offers no Canadian version.
Much of the U.S. sport Canadians follow is already licensed here. In the 2026–27 season the NFL is on TSN, CTV and RDS, with every game on NFL Game Pass through DAZN. The NHL is on Sportsnet, on TVA Sports in French and on Prime Video on Wednesday nights, and CBC no longer carries it. Raptors games are shared by TSN and Sportsnet. The CRTC also authorises CNN, Fox News, CNBC and a number of U.S. ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX and PBS stations for Canadian TV providers. What Sling adds is mostly the U.S. cable channels missing from that list, such as TNT, TBS, USA and the U.S. ESPN.
The first check takes ten minutes and needs no app. Connect USip’s residential U.S. IP on a laptop, open sling.com in Chrome or Safari, the two browsers Sling lists, and start one Freestream channel, or one channel in a Sling plan you already have. The rest of this guide covers start times by province, Canadian lines, devices, app stores and the law.

Before adding anything, see what Canadian broadcasters already hold. On 9 October 2026 we read the leagues’ and broadcasters’ own pages, the CRTC’s list of authorised non-Canadian services and reports from The Canadian Press. Rights change every season, so treat each row as a dated snapshot.
| What you want | Where it is in Canada (checked 9 October 2026) | Compared with Sling TV |
|---|---|---|
| NFL, 2026 season | The NFL’s own Canada page says TSN has “all primetime games across Canada”, meaning Sunday, Monday and Thursday nights, plus the playoffs and the Super Bowl. Bell Media’s Week 3 listings put Sunday afternoon games on TSN and on regional CTV and CTV2 feeds, with RDS in French and CTV games streaming on Crave. The same NFL page calls DAZN “the home to NFL Game Pass in Canada”, with every game. | Sling lists ESPN in Orange and Essentials, and NFL Network in Select and Blue. Games on U.S. local stations depend on Sling’s locals, which it offers only in some markets. |
| NHL, 2026–27 | Rogers holds the national rights on all platforms from 2026–27 to 2037–38. Sportsnet’s new Saturday Night Hockey replaced the Hockey Night in Canada title this season, and CBC no longer shows NHL games. Prime Video has Wednesday nights (at least 26 national games), TVA Sports the French-language national games for 12 years, and TSN and RDS some regional games. | Sling Orange lists ESPN and TNT. Which hockey games those channels show is set by the league’s U.S. contracts, which we did not review for this page. |
| NBA, 2026–27 | Raptors games are shared by TSN and Sportsnet. When Rogers agreed in 2024 to buy Bell’s stake in MLSE, the team’s owner, Bell said TSN would keep half of the Raptors’ games for 20 years. The season opens on 20 October, and the Raptors start at home to Chicago on 21 October. | In the U.S. the league’s national games are on ABC and ESPN, NBC and Peacock, and Prime Video. ESPN is in Sling Orange and Essentials; Peacock and Prime Video are separate services. TNT’s NBA deal ended after 2024–25. |
| MLB | Sportsnet carried the Blue Jays’ 2026 season from Opening Night on 27 March, and it showed the 2025 postseason and World Series in Canada. We could not confirm the 2026 postseason line-up on a first-party page. | Sling Orange includes TBS, and Kiplinger listed FS1 in Select; which games they show is set by MLB’s U.S. contracts. MLB Network is on the CRTC’s list, so a Canadian provider may already offer it. |
| U.S. college sport | TSN publishes a college football schedule for the 2026 season: North Carolina against Pittsburgh on 10 October, for one. Big Ten Network is on the CRTC’s list. We could not confirm who holds the College Football Playoff or the 2027 NCAA basketball tournaments in Canada. | Sling lists ESPN in Orange and Essentials. We did not check its college schedule for this page. |
| U.S. news channels | CNN, CNN International, Fox News, Fox Business Network and CNBC are all on the CRTC’s list of non-Canadian services authorised for distribution in Canada. | CNN is in Sling Orange, Fox News in Blue and Select. Your Canadian TV provider may already carry them; authorised does not mean that every provider does. |
| ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, PBS | The CRTC’s list includes stations affiliated with all five, from U.S. cities. KOMO-TV Seattle, an ABC station, is one. When a Canadian channel airs the same programme at the same time, your provider may show the Canadian feed instead. | Sling carries local stations in some markets only, and the market follows the U.S. address that USip assigns. |
| TNT, TBS, USA, Bravo, FX, Disney Channel | The U.S. feeds of these channels are not on the CRTC’s list. Freeform, ESPN and National Geographic are missing too; we searched the list for each name. | These are the heart of Sling’s plans: TNT and TBS in Orange, USA and Bravo in Blue, FX and National Geographic in Select, Disney Channel and Freeform in Essentials. |
Read the table from top to bottom and a pattern appears. A good share of U.S. television already reaches Canada through Canadian companies. The big leagues sell their Canadian rights to TSN, Sportsnet, TVA Sports, DAZN and Prime Video, and the CRTC authorises the U.S. news channels, NFL Network, MLB Network, Big Ten Network and the U.S. network stations for Canadian providers. The gap is the U.S. cable channels that fill Sling’s plans. If those are what you miss, they come from U.S. services such as Sling, and Sling offers them only in the U.S.
One Canadian quirk explains a common complaint about U.S. stations on Canadian TV. The CRTC describes simultaneous substitution as a TV provider temporarily replacing one channel’s signal with a local or regional channel that is showing the same programme at the same time. That is why a U.S. station watched through a Canadian provider can carry Canadian adverts during a big game. In 2016 the CRTC tried to exempt the Super Bowl from the rule; the Supreme Court of Canada quashed that decision in 2019.
Rights change every season. We checked each row on 9 October 2026, at the start of the hockey and basketball seasons. Before planning an evening around a game, look at the broadcaster’s own schedule on TSN, Sportsnet, TVA Sports, DAZN or Prime Video. On the CRTC’s list, authorised means that a Canadian provider may carry a channel, not that yours does.

Sling is a U.S. live TV streaming service, and many older guides describe a line-up that no longer exists. This is what Sling’s compare page showed on 9 October 2026, with the channels Sling itself puts first.
Built around ESPN, CNN, TNT and TBS, with more than 30 channels in all, by Sling’s count.
Fox News, USA and Bravo head a list of more than 40 channels, and NFL Network appears here too.
The two plans combined, with more than 50 channels, for households that want ESPN and Fox News together.
ESPN, Disney Channel, Freeform and Grit. EchoStar announced the nationwide launch on 9 April 2026.
Fox News, NFL Network, FX and National Geographic. Kiplinger reported that it streams on up to three devices at once.
Sling’s free, advertising-supported tier, running since February 2023. It needs no Sling plan, which makes it the cleanest first check.
The short-term passes have gone. Sling launched a Day Pass, a Weekend Pass and a Week Pass in August 2025. Disney and Warner Bros. Discovery sued over them, the Weekend Pass became a 3-Day Pass in December 2025, and by 5 October 2026 Sling’s site said the passes were no longer available, Cord Cutters News reported. A guide that still offers a day pass was written before they were withdrawn.
Local stations are the part that varies most. Sling’s compare page says: “Local channels in select markets like ABC, NBC, FOX, and more.” Which market you get, if any, follows the U.S. address, and USip assigns that address, so no one chooses the city.
Beside the U.S. plans sit international packages, “hundreds of channels in 20+ languages” by Sling’s count. The company behind it all is EchoStar: “Sling TV L.L.C. is an indirect wholly-owned subsidiary of EchoStar Corporation.”

Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal keep the same clock as New York, so a game listed for 8:15 p.m. ET starts at 8:15 p.m. there. Everywhere else the gap depends on your province, and this winter it shrinks by an hour in British Columbia and Alberta. In the table, winter means 1 November 2026 to 13 March 2027.
| U.S. start (Eastern) | Vancouver | Edmonton, Calgary, Regina | Winnipeg | Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal | Halifax | St. John’s |

Why two times for the West? The U.S. and most of Canada change their clocks on the same days: back on 1 November 2026 and forward on 14 March 2027. In Winnipeg, Toronto, Halifax and St. John’s the gap with U.S. Eastern time therefore never moves. British Columbia stopped changing its clocks this year. It moved forward on 8 March 2026 for the last time and, the province said, will not turn back on 1 November (The Weather Network, 2 March 2026). Alberta followed with its own law in May 2026. So from 1 November, Vancouver sits two hours behind New York instead of three, and Edmonton and Calgary one hour instead of two, until the U.S. moves forward again on 14 March 2027.
Saskatchewan keeps the same time all year, so Regina now matches Edmonton and Calgary in every season. Newfoundland runs half an hour ahead of Atlantic time, which is why St. John’s gets the odd :45 and :50 starts. We worked out every time with Python’s zoneinfo and version 2026c of the IANA time-zone database, the data most phones and computers use. If a device shows something different after 1 November, go by the official time for your province.
Bell Media’s NFL listings give kick-offs in Eastern time (ET). In Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal that is your time; elsewhere, shift it using the table.
In Vancouver a 7:30 p.m. ET weeknight game starts at 4:30 p.m. until the end of October, then at 5:30 p.m. through the winter, still inside many working days.
A Sunday-night kick-off at 8:20 p.m. ET is 9:50 p.m. in St. John’s and 9:20 p.m. in Halifax, so plan for a finish well into the night.
Overnight into 1 November 2026 most of Canada turns its clocks back; British Columbia and Alberta do not. Check that your phone or laptop shows the right time for your province.
When the U.S. moves forward on 14 March 2027, so do Winnipeg, Toronto, Halifax and St. John’s. Vancouver, Edmonton and Calgary keep their clocks, and the autumn gaps come back.
Programmes you start on demand begin when you press play. Time zones matter only for live games, live news and anything else that airs at a fixed hour.
Whichever company you use, your connection carries a Canadian address. The CRTC’s Canadian Telecommunications Market Report 2026, published on 24 February 2026 with figures for 2024, describes the market as follows.
| What the CRTC reports (2024 figures) | What it means for Sling |
|---|---|
| The “Top 3” operators for mobile and internet are the Bell Group, Rogers and TELUS. | Their home and mobile addresses are registered in Canada. A website sees the address, not the logo on your router. |
| Canada’s three largest mobile operators make up 90% of the national mobile market. | Mobile data is no different. A phone on a Canadian network shows a Canadian address. |
| In 2024 a little over half of new mobile customers chose providers outside the three national operators. | Smaller brands hand out Canadian addresses too, so changing operator changes nothing for Sling. |
| The traditional telephone companies have gained internet share from cable-based operators. Canadians connect by DSL, fibre, cable, satellite and fixed wireless. | The type of line does not change the country. Fibre or cable, the address belongs to a Canadian provider. |
| 5G networks reach 94% of the population. | A faster line does not change where your address is registered. |
Two habits of modern home networks catch people out. Some lines hand out an IPv6 address alongside the usual IPv4 one, and a website may see either. If the IPv6 address still belongs to your Canadian provider, Sling can see Canada even while USip is connected, which is why step 1 of the check looks at both.
The second is memory. A browser that once opened sling.com from a Canadian address keeps cookies from that visit, so the check starts in a fresh private window rather than your everyday one.
Sling decides which connections it accepts, and it can refuse any of them, USip’s included. What differs is the kind of address Sling sees. Here is the comparison in plain words.
| Connection | The address Sling sees | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Your Canadian line, nothing added | Your provider’s Canadian address | Sling’s U.S.-only page. That is Sling working as it was built to. |
| Free VPN apps | Shared addresses, often in data centres, used by many people at the same moment | Easy for a streaming service to recognise. Messages about a VPN or a proxy are common. |
| Commercial data-centre VPNs | Addresses registered to hosting companies rather than households | Anyone who looks up who owns the address can see it is not a home line. |
| USip residential U.S. IP | One ordinary consumer address on a U.S. internet provider | It looks like a U.S. household line. Sling still makes its own decision, and we do not promise access. |
That is the whole job: one U.S. household address, set up properly.
Those decisions belong to Sling, the leagues and the app stores.
Put simply, a residential U.S. IP changes what Sling sees, not what Sling decides. Sling can refuse any connection, and nothing on this page is a promise that a channel or a game will play.

Do this once on a laptop before setting up anything else. The browser takes the app store out of the question and Freestream takes the plan out of it, so the result is about the connection alone.
Connect USip in OpenVPN Connect and open any IP address checker. The IPv4 address must show the United States. If an IPv6 address appears, it must not name Bell, Rogers, TELUS or whichever Canadian company supplies your line. If it does, stop and contact USip support before going on.
Start a new private window in Chrome or Safari, the two browsers on Sling’s list of supported devices, and go to sling.com. A private window carries no cookies from earlier Canadian visits.
Start one Freestream channel, which needs no plan. If you already have a Sling plan, sign in and start one channel from it instead. Let it run for a full minute before you judge anything.
If a message mentions your location, a VPN or a proxy, write it down word for word. Reconnect USip once and try one more time. If the message returns, send the exact wording to USip support instead of retrying again and again.
USip keeps a dated record of its own checks on a separate page, USip’s published checks. We do not summarise it here: Sling makes its own decisions, and the check that counts is the one you run on your own line in Canada.

USip recorded its four Sling videos in September 2021. The USip connection steps in them still apply. Sling’s screens, plans and sign-up pages have changed since, and the phone videos switch the app-store country, which we no longer suggest. The written setup guides have the current steps.

Install OpenVPN Connect, import your USip profile and connect. The Windows setup guide shows each screen. Then open Chrome, which is on Sling’s list, and run the four-step check above.
The September 2021 video still shows the connection part well. Its Sling pages are the 2021 versions, so skip the parts about joining Sling.
Step by step: the Windows setup guide.

A Mac follows the same pattern: OpenVPN Connect, your USip profile, then Safari or Chrome. Sling lists both browsers, so there is nothing else to install.
The 2021 video shows an older Sling website. Follow it for the USip connection and leave aside what it shows about signing up.
Step by step: the Mac setup guide.

Connect USip in OpenVPN Connect on the phone, check the address, then open sling.com in Chrome before thinking about the app.
The video changes the Google Play country, and that part is out of date. Google’s own help says that to set up a new country “you must be in that location”, and that after a change you “must wait at least 90 days” before the next one.
Step by step: the Android setup guide.

OpenVPN Connect runs on iPhone and iPad with the USip profile, so Safari on the device can open sling.com through the U.S. address.
The Sling app was not in the Canadian App Store on 9 October 2026. The 2021 video switches the App Store country, and that part is out of date. Apple sets its own conditions for changing an Apple Account’s country or region, listed in our sources, and we suggest nothing beyond them.
Step by step: the iOS setup guide.
Televisions, streaming sticks and consoles can’t run OpenVPN Connect. For them USip uses Smart DNS: register your home’s public IP address with USip, then enter the DNS details in the device’s network settings or once on the router. If your Canadian provider changes that public address, register the new one. The Smart DNS guide has the steps.
Sling lists Roku, Amazon Fire, Apple TV, Android TV and Google TV, Chromecast, Samsung, LG, Vizio and Xbox Series X|S among its devices. Whether a television sold in Canada offers the Sling app depends on that television’s own app store, which we did not check. Run the laptop check first, so you know where you stand before spending an evening on the TV.

One residential U.S. IP — an ordinary consumer address on a U.S. ISP, not a server range. USip and Sling TV are separate services: the plans include the connection only — not a Sling TV subscription, an app-store region or the rights to any channel or game.
Separate services: these prices are for the USip residential U.S. IP service only. Sling TV is a separate service; a Sling TV subscription and access to any particular channel, game or event are not part of a USip plan.
We looked the Sling app up in Apple’s stores on 9 October 2026. It is listed in the U.S. App Store and not in the Canadian one. Google Play was not checked country by country, so we make no claim about it.
Sling’s own app appeared only in the U.S. store of the nine stores we checked. An Apple Account’s country follows Apple’s own conditions, set out on Apple Support.
Google Play Help says that to set up a new country or region you must be in that location, and that you must wait at least 90 days between changes. We did not look for the Sling app in Canadian Google Play.
Sling lists Chrome and Safari among its supported browsers, and a browser involves no store at all. That is why the check uses a laptop: it settles the connection question before any app question.
We do not suggest made-up addresses, borrowed U.S. ZIP codes, gift vouchers or unofficial app stores. They break the stores’ own rules, and none of them changes what Sling decides about your connection.
We are not lawyers, and this is not legal advice. Here is what we found in official Canadian sources, and where our knowledge stops.
We have not found a Canadian law that bans VPN software as such. The Government of Canada’s Get Cyber Safe campaign goes further and suggests one for public Wi-Fi: “If you find yourself using public Wi-Fi often, using a virtual private network (VPN) can be a safer solution.”
The Canadian rights to the big U.S. leagues are held by the services in the table above: TSN, Sportsnet, TVA Sports, DAZN, Prime Video and others. The CRTC decides which non-Canadian services Canadian TV providers may carry.
Sling is a U.S. service and says it is only available in the United States. It decides which connections it accepts and can refuse any connection, USip’s included.
If you need a firm answer for a business, a contract or a dispute, ask a lawyer licensed in your province or territory. Nothing on this page replaces that advice.
USip supplies one residential U.S. IP address. What you watch through it, and under which agreements, is between you and the services you use.
Short, self-contained answers to the questions Canadians ask most about Sling TV, checked on 9 October 2026.
No. The page Sling shows to visitors from outside the U.S. says “Sling TV, a live TV streaming service, is only available in the United States.” There is no Canadian edition, and the Sling app was not in the Canadian App Store when we checked on 9 October 2026. A residential U.S. IP changes the address Sling sees, but Sling still decides which connections it accepts and can refuse any of them.
A residential U.S. IP gives your laptop or phone an ordinary U.S. household address, so Sling sees a U.S. connection instead of your Canadian one. That is the part USip supplies. Whether Sling accepts it is Sling’s decision, and it can refuse any connection, USip’s included, so we promise nothing. The honest way to find out is the ten-minute check on this page: a laptop browser, one Freestream channel, one minute.
On Canadian services. The NFL’s Canada page says TSN has all primetime games, meaning Sunday, Monday and Thursday nights, plus the playoffs and the Super Bowl. It calls DAZN the home of NFL Game Pass in Canada, with every game. Bell Media’s 2026 listings also put Sunday afternoon games on TSN and regional CTV and CTV2 feeds, with French coverage on RDS. Rights can change between seasons, so check TSN’s and DAZN’s own schedules.
Rogers holds the national rights under a 12-year deal that began this season, and Sportsnet shows most English-language games. Its Saturday Night Hockey replaced the Hockey Night in Canada title, and CBC no longer shows NHL games. Prime Video has Wednesday nights, TVA Sports has the French-language national games for 12 years, and TSN and RDS keep some regional games. We checked this on 9 October 2026; schedules change during the season.
Raptors games are split between TSN and Sportsnet. When Rogers agreed in 2024 to buy Bell’s stake in MLSE, Bell said TSN would keep half of the Raptors’ games for 20 years. The 2026–27 season opens on 20 October, and the Raptors start at home to Chicago the next day. In the U.S., the national games are on ABC and ESPN, NBC and Peacock, and Prime Video; TNT’s NBA deal ended after 2024–25.
Freestream is part of Sling, and Sling says its service is only available in the United States, so there is no Canadian Freestream. It is Sling’s free, advertising-supported tier, running since February 2023, and it needs no Sling plan. That makes it the best first check with a residential U.S. IP: if a Freestream channel plays for a minute, the connection side is in order; if a message appears, write down its wording.
On Sling’s compare page (9 October 2026), ESPN is in Sling Orange and in Sling Essentials, which launched nationwide on 9 April 2026. NFL Network is in Sling Select, launched in August 2025, and also appears in Sling Blue. Blackouts and local-market rules belong to Sling and the leagues, and they follow the U.S. address that USip assigns, so no plan comes with a promise that a particular game will play.
No. USip supplies one residential U.S. IP address and nothing from Sling: no Sling account, no channels, no rights to any game and no App Store region. Sling TV and USip are separate companies. If you want a Sling plan, that is between you and Sling, and Sling decides where it serves customers.
Possibly, but not through OpenVPN Connect, which televisions, sticks and consoles can’t run. For them USip uses Smart DNS: you register your home’s public IP address with USip and enter the DNS details on the device or once on the router. The Sling app also has to be offered in your TV’s own app store, which we did not check for Canadian models. Start with the laptop check, and move to the TV once that works.
That depends on the U.S. address USip assigns, and you don’t pick it: USip gives you the address rather than a menu of cities, states or servers. Sling offers local channels only in some markets, so which local stations appear, if any, is up to Sling. If you need a particular U.S. network station, look at the CRTC’s list first, because many ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX and PBS stations are authorised for Canadian TV providers.
We have not found a Canadian law that bans VPN software as such, and the Government of Canada’s Get Cyber Safe campaign suggests a VPN for people who use public Wi-Fi often. We are not lawyers, and this is not legal advice. Sling is a separate matter: it decides which connections it accepts and can refuse any of them. For a firm answer about your own situation, ask a lawyer licensed in your province or territory.
British Columbia and Alberta no longer change their clocks, so from 1 November 2026 to 13 March 2027 Vancouver is two hours behind U.S. Eastern time and Calgary one. A Sunday-night kick-off at 8:20 p.m. ET is 6:20 p.m. in Vancouver and 7:20 p.m. in Calgary. From 14 March 2027 the gaps return to three hours and two. Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal keep New York’s clock all year.
Write the message down word for word. Reconnect USip once and try one more time. If it comes back, send the exact wording to USip support. Ten retries teach you nothing that one careful retry does not, and Sling, not USip, decides whether to accept the connection. Support can check the USip side, such as the address and the IPv6 question, but it has no say over Sling’s answer.

The hub explains Sling TV for anyone outside the U.S. Each of the seven other country guides covers its own broadcasters, clocks and laws, under the same honest rules as this page.
The main pages behind this guide, each read on 9 October 2026. Rights and schedules move, so the text says when we looked.
If what you miss is already on Canadian TV, such as the NFL on TSN and CTV, the NHL on Sportsnet and TVA Sports, the Raptors on TSN and Sportsnet, or CNN and Fox News through your provider, the Canadian route is simpler and runs on Canadian hours. If what you want is Sling’s own mix of U.S. cable channels, a residential U.S. IP is the part USip supplies.
Ten minutes on a laptop shows where you stand: USip connected, sling.com in a private Chrome or Safari window, one Freestream channel for a minute. Sling decides what happens next and can refuse any connection, so whatever you see is Sling’s answer for that day.
USip supplies the residential U.S. IP connection only. Sling TV is a separate U.S. service; its plans, channels, blackouts and decisions about any connection are its own.
