Short answer: Hulu is sold in the United States, not in the Dominican Republic. Disney+ is sold here — and since 8 October 2025 the entertainment section inside Dominican Disney+ has been called Hulu, filled with the catalogue Disney+ already carried in the region rather than the American one.
Many people who search for this are not trying to buy Hulu here. They already have it — a household in New York, New Jersey or Florida home for a visit, or someone who moved back — and the app that worked last week now shows a location error. Two things decide whether U.S. Hulu plays in Santo Domingo: a U.S. account whose plan covers the show, and a connection that Hulu reads as a U.S. household. USip supplies the second, and nothing else.

Pew Research counted about 2.4 million people of Dominican origin living in the United States in 2021, most of them in New York, New Jersey and Florida. Dominicans who live abroad made about 1.5 million trips home by air in 2025, by the Tourism Ministry and Central Bank count. If you are one of them and your phone carries U.S. Hulu, this page is for you — because Hulu draws its line at the edge of the United States, not around the family.
Hulu describes a subscription as one that “is intended for use by members of a single U.S. household,” and states the geography just as plainly: “The videos on Hulu are only available in the U.S.” Both are true in the Bronx and in Orlando. Neither comes with you through the departure gate.
On-demand subscribers “are able to stream anywhere in the U.S. — including Puerto Rico and U.S. military bases.” So an account that plays in San Juan can refuse a few minutes after you land in Santo Domingo. Live TV is stricter again: its subscribers are “not able to stream in U.S. territories, on U.S. military bases, or internationally.”
The Dominican Republic is outside the United States and its territories, so a Dominican address gets Hulu’s location error however short the stay and however American the account. There is no two-week allowance, no holiday exception and no family rule.
Nothing about your account changes on the flight. What changes is the address your connection shows. Keep that split in mind: it decides which problems a different address can solve and which it never will.

Read together, the rules describe a service for American households that follows them anywhere in the United States and stops at its edges. That is Hulu’s decision to make, and nothing on this page changes it.

Disney+ has been sold here since it launched across Latin America and the Caribbean on 17 November 2020. On 26 June 2024 Disney relaunched it in Latin America with the Star+ entertainment catalogue and ESPN sport inside, and on 8 October 2025 that entertainment section took the Hulu name in Latin America and Disney’s other international markets.

Traditional pay-TV was already losing subscribers in 2023. INDOTEL’s figures, reported by El Dinero, show pay-TV subscriptions falling from 754,166 in March 2023 to 714,778 that December, with Claro at 433,605 and Altice at 110,037 — and the paper put the losses down to competition from streaming services.
Open Disney+, go into the Hulu tile and search for the exact show. Catalogues differ title by title and change over time, so the app’s own search is the only answer worth trusting — and it takes a minute.

The Dominican Republic does not change its clocks; the United States does. So from the second Sunday of March to the first Sunday of November — 8 March to 1 November in 2026 — the two show exactly the same time, as El Caribe reminded its readers in March. For the rest of the year Santo Domingo is one hour ahead of New York.
An 8 p.m. show on the East Coast starts at 8 p.m. in Santo Domingo and Santiago. Nobody in the house has to stay up until three in the morning to see what the family in New York is talking about.
When the U.S. goes back to standard time, 8 p.m. Eastern becomes 9 p.m. here, and a 10 p.m. show starts at 11. Late, perhaps, but still the evening rather than the small hours.
Hulu + Live TV subscribers are “not able to stream in U.S. territories, on U.S. military bases, or internationally.” Being on New York time does not make the Dominican Republic part of New York, so plan around on-demand episodes, not live channels.
Bring the U.S. connection up and check the address before the app or the website loads. If Hulu has already seen a Dominican address, it keeps that decision in its cookies and repeats it.
Hulu asks for roughly 3 Mbps for on-demand video and 16 Mbps for 4K. Test with the U.S. connection up: the number that matters is the route to the United States, not to a server in Santo Domingo.
Stay on one connection from sign-in to the last episode. Hopping between servers mid-show makes one account look as if it is moving between cities, which is not how a household behaves.

The Dominican Republic comes online mostly by phone. At the end of 2025 INDOTEL counted 10,148,778 mobile internet subscriptions against 1,321,552 fixed connections, and two companies hold most of both. Whichever you use, Hulu sees a Dominican address.

Addresses are the scarce part. In September 2026 LACNIC’s records listed 1,622,272 IPv4 addresses for the whole country — roughly one for every seven internet subscriptions. At that ratio most subscriptions cannot have a public IPv4 address to themselves: they share one, or they rely on IPv6.
IPv6, the newer address system, is in real use too. The Internet Society’s 2026 report says 37% of Dominican users can reach websites over it, against an Americas average of 45%. That is not a majority, but it is plenty to make a test fail when a Dominican IPv6 address slips past a U.S. connection that only handles IPv4.
One more consequence, for the television: USip’s Smart DNS recognises your home by its public IP address, so if Claro or Altice changes that address, it has to be registered with USip again.
Why sharing matters: Hulu lists an address “block listed because of previous anonymous proxy use” among the causes of its location error. A shared address carries the history of everyone who used it; a residential address used by one household carries only yours.

Making a checker say “United States” is easy. Hulu also says which kind of address it distrusts — “a VPN or VPS” — and that is where most cheap options fail, even when the country is right.

The order matters more than the speed. Each step removes one possible cause, so when something fails you know whether it was the account, the connection, the browser or the licence.
Hulu With Ads, Hulu Premium, a Disney+ bundle or Live TV: the name printed on the account page decides what can play, and no connection changes it. If the account is not active, or the plan does not include the show, stop here — that is a Hulu matter, not a network one. Live TV will not play in the Dominican Republic whatever you do next.
Most Dominican internet arrives through mobile data, and a hotspot adds a second device that can drop the connection halfway. If the house has a fixed line, put the laptop on it for the first run. The Windows guide or Mac guide covers the setup; Android and iOS come after the laptop has passed.
With the U.S. connection up, the IPv4 line should say United States and the IPv6 line should show nothing from Claro or Altice. More than a third of Dominican users can reach sites over IPv6, so those ten seconds are well spent. Only then open hulu.com, in a private window, so that no old decision about your location is waiting in a cookie.
Pick something plain that your plan includes — not live, not 4K — and let it run. If it plays for a minute, the location part works. If it stops, write the message down word for word: P-EDU101 is Hulu’s location error, a show missing from search is a licence question, and anything about the account or plan sends you back to step one.
Passed the test, but one show still refuses? Then the address is fine, and the answer is the plan or the rights to that title. A different server will not change either of them.

Most Dominican households live on their phones, but a phone is the hardest place to read a result. Start on a laptop, move to phones once it works, and leave the television for last. The four videos were recorded in December 2022: the connection steps still hold, while Hulu’s own screens have changed since.
Start on a Windows laptop connected to the home line rather than to a phone’s hotspot. Apple says iCloud Private Relay is not available in all countries or regions. If your Mac shows it switched on, turn it off before the test, because it sends Safari’s traffic through relays of its own. Look at IPv6 in the network settings as well: more than a third of Dominican users have it, and Safari uses it whenever it can. If Chrome plays and Safari refuses, those two settings are the first place to look.

Google Play lists apps by the Google account’s country. If your account is still the American one from New York or Miami, the Hulu app you installed there stays on the phone; a Dominican account will not list it at all. Switching the country is a real decision with consequences for earlier purchases, so never make it halfway through a test. On Claro or Altice mobile data, exempt the connection app from battery optimisation — Android closing the tunnel looks exactly like a Hulu refusal.

The App Store follows the Apple Account’s country, not the network. An iPhone that has been on a U.S. Apple Account since the States keeps its Hulu app; a Dominican account will not offer it. Changing the country affects subscriptions and Family Sharing and comes with conditions of Apple’s own, so keep it apart from this test. For the first run, turn Location Services off for the Hulu app and confirm the address in Safari before you open it.

A smart TV, streaming stick or console cannot run OpenVPN Connect, so it uses USip’s Smart DNS instead. The same phone can pass the test in a relative’s living room and fail at a resort later that day. Before blaming Hulu or the connection, look at whose network you are on.
Wi-Fi in a resort in Punta Cana, Bávaro or Puerto Plata is run by the property, and some networks restrict the tunnels a connection app needs. If the setup works on mobile data and fails on the resort Wi-Fi, the Wi-Fi is the difference, not Hulu.
Claro and Altice between them have about 84% of the country’s fixed connections, so the house line is probably one of theirs, and the router may belong to the provider. That matters only for the television. TVs and sticks use USip’s Smart DNS rather than the app, and once the house’s public IP address is registered with USip, the DNS addresses can go into the TV’s own settings instead of the router’s.

Everything below is easier from a sofa in the U.S. than from a Dominican airport. None of it is about the network, and all of it decides whether the network matters.
Sign in at home and read the plan name. Hulu With Ads is $12.49 a month and Hulu Premium $21.49 — the U.S. prices since 23 September 2026. Live TV and add-ons are separate, and Live TV will not play in the Dominican Republic at all.
Update the Hulu app and OpenVPN Connect, the app that carries your USip profile, on every laptop, phone and tablet that is travelling with you, and sign in to each one once. Sorting out an app-store question is simpler at home than in a hotel room.
If your plan includes downloads, save a few episodes to a phone or tablet before you leave. A downloaded episode needs no connection on the plane or at the beach, for as long as Hulu lets downloads last. Check each title for a download option rather than assuming.

For live sport it is the realistic route here, because Hulu + Live TV does not stream outside the U.S.
Because a Claro address is a Dominican address, and Hulu reads the address. Claro has about 61% of the country’s mobile internet subscriptions and 63% of its fixed connections in INDOTEL’s end-2025 figures, so it is the answer most people see — but Altice, Viva and Wind get exactly the same one.
You can, but it is the harder route. A hotspot adds a second device that can go to sleep or drop the tunnel, and it makes a failure harder to read. Use a fixed line for the first test if the house has one, and move to mobile data once the laptop has passed.
Usually one of three things: a Dominican IPv6 address still in use beside the U.S. IPv4 one; an old location decision stored in hulu.com cookies; or an address of the kind Hulu names — “a VPN or VPS” — or one block listed because of previous anonymous proxy use. Check both address lines, clear the cookies, and try once more.
