Short answer: Paramount+ is sold in the UK, and if you have Sky Cinema you already have it. What is not sold here — or anywhere outside the United States — is the US library: UFC, NFL on CBS, Serie A, the UEFA Champions League and the titles Paramount licenses to someone else in Britain.

This is the part worth being concrete about, because “the US library is bigger” is not a reason to do anything. These are the specific things that do not cross the Atlantic, and the first one is new in 2026.

Note what is not on that list: a general claim that the UK catalogue is poor. It is not. It carries a deep Showtime-derived library and Paramount originals, and for most drama and comedy the honest answer is that the UK service is fine. The gap is sport and timing.
Paramount+ reads the public IP address your request arrives from, and every consumer connection in the UK supplies a British one. London, Manchester, Birmingham, Glasgow, Leeds, Bristol, Edinburgh, Cardiff, Belfast or Liverpool — the providers differ, the conclusion does not.
What does differ, and matters more than people expect, is whether your particular line gives you an address of your own or one shared with other households.

One structural note. The UK is not short of addresses: it holds about 1.95 public IPv4 addresses per person, the third-largest allocation in the world. Roughly 49% of UK users are IPv6-capable. So when your line shares an address, that is a decision your provider made, not arithmetic forcing its hand — which is the subject of the next section.

Why this matters to Paramount+ specifically: services score the address as well as the country. An address used by one household behaves differently from one shared by dozens, and differently again from a data-centre range that exists to serve VPN traffic. That distinction — not the country flag alone — is what a residential U.S. IP is actually buying you.
Getting the country to read United States is the easy half. The harder half is the kind of address you present, because that is scored separately.

The aim is one result you can interpret, so that if it fails you know which layer failed — the network, the browser, the account or the rights. The first two steps are free, and skipping them is how people end up paying to solve a problem they did not have.
Free, and for a lot of UK readers it ends the question. Paramount+ has been sold in the UK since June 2022, and Sky includes Basic with Ads with Sky Cinema at no extra cost. If the title you want is in the UK catalogue, you already have it or you can buy it locally in two minutes.

iCloud Private Relay sends Safari through Apple’s own network, bypassing whatever connection you have just established — so a Mac can fail while everything is configured correctly. Switch Private Relay off before testing rather than after. If Chrome plays and Safari refuses, that setting is the reason and reconnecting will not touch it.

Apple serves the Paramount+ app by Apple Account country, so a UK account shows you the UK app. Changing that country affects subscriptions, store credit, rentals and family sharing and outlasts this experiment, so decide it deliberately. If you already have the app, an existing UK Paramount+ subscription bought through Apple is billed and entitled separately from a US one.

Google Play serves apps by account country, so a UK Google account will not show the US Paramount+ build however the network is configured. Separately, exempt the VPN client from battery optimisation — Android is aggressive about killing background connections, and a tunnel dropped mid-episode looks exactly like a block.

Sky Glass, Sky Q, Fire TV, Roku, Apple TV, Chromecast and PlayStation cannot run the connection themselves, so it has to live on the router. That is the final step and not the first: proving the account in a browser costs ten minutes, whereas reconfiguring the router the whole household depends on and then discovering the account was the problem costs an evening.
Where a device cannot run the connection itself, the connection has to sit on the router. Do that last. And if you are on Sky Broadband with a Sky Q box, remember the box also talks to Sky’s own services — routing everything through a US address will change how those behave too.

With a U.S. residential address in front of it, Paramount+ behaves like any other streaming service and what remains is bandwidth, cached data and the app. UK fixed lines are fast, so the usual culprit here is not speed.
Bring the connection up and confirm United States before the page or app opens. Connecting afterwards means the first request — the one Paramount+ judged — arrived from a British address, and that decision then persists in a cookie and confuses every attempt after it.
Run the speed test with the connection up rather than without it. The number that counts is throughput to the United States, not to a London exchange, and on UK fibre those two can differ considerably. Live sport is the least forgiving thing on the service, so if UFC is why you are here, test with headroom.
A stale location decision survives in the cookie and will return the same answer no matter what you have fixed. Clear the site data or use a private window before treating a second attempt as evidence of anything.

EU law contains a cross-border portability regulation: Regulation (EU) 2017/1128 requires a paid online content service to let a subscriber use their home subscription while temporarily in another EU or EEA country. Paramount’s own European terms reflect it — there is an explicit EEA travel allowance in them. It is a legal right, not a courtesy.
That regulation stopped applying to UK subscriptions when the transition period ended. A Paramount+ subscription bought in the United Kingdom is not an EEA subscription, so a British subscriber sitting in Lisbon or Berlin has no portability right to fall back on. Whatever access you do get abroad is a commercial decision by Paramount, which means it can change without anything legal changing.

Two things follow. First, if you are a UK subscriber planning a European trip, do not assume the portability rules you have read about apply to you — they were written for EEA subscriptions and yours is not one. Second, and more to the point of this page: a US Paramount+ account has no travel allowance anywhere, from anyone, under any regulation. That is not a loophole waiting to be found. It is why the location layer is a layer at all.
