ESPN, CNN, TNT and TBS
The sports-and-news plan, with 30+ channels on Sling’s compare page. For anyone in Germany after ESPN or the U.S. CNN, this is the first plan to look at.
Short answer: no. Sling TV is not offered in Germany, and the page Sling shows to visitors outside the U.S. says so in one line: “Sling TV, a live TV streaming service, is only available in the United States.” The Sling app is not in the German App Store either; we looked on 9 October 2026. A residential U.S. IP address changes where Sling sees you connecting from. It does not oblige Sling to accept you, and Sling can refuse any connection, USip’s included.
Much of what people in Germany want from Sling is already on German screens. In the 2026–27 season RTL shows NFL games free every Sunday from 19:00, Sky adds more, and DAZN’s NFL Game Pass has every game; the NFL Network even streams free on Joyn. Sky and Prime Video share the NBA, and Sky and DAZN between them carry every NHL game. Sling matters for the American channels themselves — ESPN, CNN, Fox News, TBS and, in some markets, local U.S. stations — and for Americans in Germany who miss them.
The sensible first step is a short check on a laptop, not a sign-up. Connect the USip residential U.S. IP, open sling.com in Chrome or Safari, and start one Freestream channel — free, with no plan needed — or one channel in a plan you already have. A minute of steady picture, or the exact wording of a refusal, settles more than any review.

By the league’s own count Germany has “more than 20 million fans of the game, the largest fanbase in Europe”, and German television has followed them. The table shows where each league is in Germany this season, from the leagues’ and broadcasters’ pages as we read them on 9 October 2026, and what Sling adds.
| What you want | Where it is in Germany (checked 9 October 2026) | Compared with Sling |
|---|---|---|
| NFL on Sunday evenings | RTL, free TV: one early game from 19:00 and one late game every Sunday. RTL+: a second early game. Sky Sport: one more early and one more late game, a Sunday conference and NFL RedZone (ran, updated 9 October 2026). | Sling’s compare page lists local channels — ABC, NBC, FOX and more — only “in select markets”. USip assigns the U.S. address, so whether Sling offers local stations there is not yours to decide. |
| Night games, and every other game | The Thursday, Sunday and Monday night games on RTL free TV and on Sky (ran). DAZN’s NFL Game Pass has every game live, from the pre-season to Super Bowl LXI (TV Movie, 10 September 2026); DAZN keeps Game Pass until 2033 (Sportcal). | ESPN is in Sling Orange and Sling Essentials. In Germany, Game Pass already covers every game. |
| NFL Network | Free on Joyn as a 24-hour live stream, with seven regular-season games live, five of them International Games (ran, updated 8 October 2026). | Part of Sling Select since August 2025 (Kiplinger). In Germany you can have it without Sling. |
| The NFL in Germany | Patriots v Lions at the Allianz Arena in Munich, Sunday 15 November 2026, kick-off 15:30 (Allianz Arena, 13 May 2026). RTL shows every European game (ran). | Nothing to add: the game is on German free TV on a Sunday afternoon. |
| NBA | Sky: more than 100 games, including opening night on 20 October and the Western Conference finals. Prime Video: 67 games exclusively, including the Eastern Conference finals. NBA League Pass: every game. No free TV this season (ran, 5 October 2026; Sky Sport). | Sling has ESPN, and local ABC and NBC in some markets. TNT’s NBA deal ended after 2024–25; the national U.S. games moved to ESPN/ABC, NBC/Peacock and Prime Video (NewscastStudio, July 2024). |
| NHL | Sky Sport: 300 games live on TV and streaming. Every other game: live on NHL.TV through DAZN (NHL, 29 September 2026). | Little to add for the games themselves: between Sky and DAZN, all of them are covered in Germany. |
| MLB, including the World Series | Sport1 secured German rights for the 2022 to 2026 seasons and committed to at least two World Series games on free TV (Sport1, 11 November 2021). We could not confirm what it shows of this post-season. | TBS, in Sling Orange, has the American League play-off series and FS1, in Sling Select, the National League ones; the World Series starts on FOX on Friday 23 October (Cord Cutters News, 12 August 2026). FOX is one of Sling’s local channels, offered in select markets. |
| U.S. news: CNN, Fox News, CNBC | CNN International, in English, is offered in Germany by Sky, MagentaTV, Vodafone GigaTV and waipu.tv (TV Movie listing, 9 October 2026). It is the international channel, not the U.S. CNN. We did not find Fox News in any German line-up we could read, and could not confirm where CNBC sits now. | The U.S. CNN is in Sling Orange; Fox News is in Sling Blue and Sling Select. |
One change explains most of the NFL rows. The league ended DAZN’s German live-game contract early, after the 2025–26 season, and RTL Deutschland — which now owns Sky — took over the rest in a deal running to 2028–29, with a Sky Sport NFL channel announced for this season (Sportcal, 3 July 2026). DAZN still carries NFL Game Pass. Separately, the NFL Network, which Sling carries in Sling Select, streams free on Joyn.
So for most German viewers the honest order is German television for the games and Sling for the American channels around them: the ESPN, Fox News, CNN and TBS studio programmes, U.S. commentary and, for Americans living here, the line-up they know from home. We could not confirm a German broadcaster for U.S. college football or college basketball in 2026–27; if you follow a college team, find out which U.S. channel has the game before deciding anything.
Rights change every season, and sometimes in the middle of one — the NFL ended DAZN’s German contract a season early. Everything in this table was read on 9 October 2026. Before you plan an evening around a game, open the broadcaster’s own page.

Guides written before 2025 know only Orange and Blue. This is the line-up on Sling’s compare page on 9 October 2026, with the dates that changed it.
The sports-and-news plan, with 30+ channels on Sling’s compare page. For anyone in Germany after ESPN or the U.S. CNN, this is the first plan to look at.
The bigger entertainment-and-news plan, with 40+ channels. Sling also offers Orange and Blue together as one plan with 50+ channels.
Launched nationwide by EchoStar: ESPN and ESPN2, Disney Channel, Freeform and Grit are among its channels, and 50 hours of DVR come with it.
Fox News, FS1, FX, National Geographic and NFL Network, with streaming on up to three devices at once (Kiplinger). Local ABC, NBC and FOX are not included by default.
Sling’s help centre puts it plainly: “Sling Freestream is like the name says, FREE.” No plan is needed, which makes it the cleanest first check. From Germany it, too, needs a U.S. address.
Sling brought in short-term passes in August 2025; Disney and Warner Bros. Discovery sued, and by 5 October 2026 Sling’s site said “Sling Passes are no longer available” (Cord Cutters News). Old advice about them is out of date.
One detail matters more from Germany than from the U.S.: local stations. Sling’s compare page says “Local channels in select markets like ABC, NBC, FOX, and more.” USip assigns the U.S. address, so you do not choose the market, and with it which local stations Sling offers, if any. For the record, Sling belongs to EchoStar — in EchoStar’s own words of 9 April 2026, “Sling TV L.L.C. is an indirect wholly-owned subsidiary of EchoStar Corporation.”

Germany runs six hours ahead of New York and nine ahead of Los Angeles for most of the season. Europe and the U.S. change their clocks on different Sundays, so for two short stretches the gap is five hours. The times below were calculated from the official time-zone rules.
| U.S. start (Eastern / Pacific) | Berlin, most weeks | Berlin, 25–31 October 2026 and 14–27 March 2027 |
|---|---|---|
| Sunday 1:00 p.m. ET / 10:00 a.m. PT — early NFL games | Sunday 19:00 | Sunday 18:00 |
| Sunday 4:25 p.m. ET / 1:25 p.m. PT — late NFL games | Sunday 22:25 | Sunday 21:25 |
| Sunday 8:20 p.m. ET / 5:20 p.m. PT — the Sunday night game | Monday 02:20 | Monday 01:20 |
| Monday 8:15 p.m. ET / 5:15 p.m. PT — the Monday night game | Tuesday 02:15 | Tuesday 01:15 |
| Weeknight 7:30 p.m. ET / 4:30 p.m. PT — a common NBA or NHL start | Next day 01:30 | Next day 00:30 |
The dates to mark: Europe goes back an hour on Sunday 25 October 2026 and forward on Sunday 28 March 2027, while the U.S. moves on Sunday 1 November 2026 and Sunday 14 March 2027. Between those pairs of dates everything starts an hour earlier in Berlin than usual. One game this season needs no arithmetic at all: Patriots v Lions in Munich on Sunday 15 November 2026 kicks off at 15:30, which is 9:30 a.m. in New York.
For most of the season the early Sunday games start at 19:00 Berlin time — the window RTL uses for its free game, and a convenient hour for a first look at Sling too.
Sunday and Monday night games start at 02:20 and 02:15 Berlin time, an hour earlier in the five-hour weeks. RTL keeps its single games on RTL+ for 72 hours afterwards (ran).
In the week after Germany’s clocks go back, U.S. games start an hour earlier than usual: 18:00 instead of 19:00 on Sunday 25 October.
In spring the U.S. moves first. For those two weeks an NBA or NHL game at 7:30 p.m. Eastern starts at 00:30 in Berlin instead of 01:30.
Game 1 is on Friday 23 October in the U.S. (Cord Cutters News). An evening start in New York falls in the early hours of Saturday in Berlin, which is still on summer time that night.
Sunday 14 February 2027 in Los Angeles — in Germany, the night of 14 to 15 February (ran). We could not confirm which German channel will show it.
Whichever company runs your line, the address it hands you belongs to a German network, and any website can look that up. Here is the market as the Bundesnetzagentur counted it for 2025, in its Jahresbericht Telekommunikation 2025, published on 5 June 2026.
Customers who get their line straight from Deutsche Telekom held 39.1% of them. Competitors — Vodafone, 1&1, O2 and many regional fibre companies among them — shared the other 60.9%.
About 6.4 million fibre connections were in use at the end of 2025, most of them fibre to the home. DSL still made up 58.5% of active lines.
The four network operators — Telekom, Vodafone, Telefónica (O2) and 1&1 — held 90% of active SIM profiles, machine-to-machine SIMs left out. 1&1 finished moving its customers onto its own network at the end of 2025.
An address lookup shows the country and the network’s name. That is why the U.S.-only page appears on every German line, fixed or mobile, before any plan or account comes into it.
The detail that matters more than your provider’s name is IPv6. If your line has an IPv6 address as well as an IPv4 one, and the USip connection carries only the IPv4 traffic, a browser can still reach a website over IPv6, straight from your German line — and the website then sees your German provider rather than a U.S. address. That is why the first step of the check below reads both lines of an address checker, not just the top one.
On mobile data the same logic applies: Telekom, Vodafone, O2 and 1&1 all give your phone a German address. Connect USip on the phone first, then open anything from Sling — not the other way round.
What Sling is likely to see in each case, in plain terms. None of it is a promise: Sling decides which connections it accepts.
| Connection | What Sling is likely to see | What that means |
|---|---|---|
| Your German line (Telekom, Vodafone, O2, 1&1 or a fibre company) | A German address on a German network. | Sling’s page for visitors outside the U.S., whatever plan or account you have. |
| A free VPN app | Usually a data-centre address shared by many users at the same moment. | Easy for a service to recognise. The BSI also warns that free VPNs often have limited functions and may live off their users’ data. |
| A commercial VPN with data-centre servers | An address from a hosting company’s range, in whichever country you set. | Address databases label such ranges as data centres, and services that limit viewing by country can turn them away. |
| USip residential U.S. IP | One U.S. consumer address on a U.S. internet provider, assigned by USip. | An ordinary U.S. home address. Sling can still refuse it, and USip cannot overrule that. |
One address, one connection at a time: that is the whole product.
If Sling refuses the address, that decision is Sling’s, and we will not pretend otherwise.

Run this once on a laptop before you sign up for anything with Sling. It answers the one question USip can help with: does Sling accept the address you have?
Open OpenVPN Connect, connect with your USip profile and load an IP address checker in the browser. The IPv4 line must show a U.S. location. If an IPv6 line appears, it must not name Telekom, Vodafone, O2, 1&1 or any other German provider; if it does, sort that out first, with USip support if needed.
Use Chrome or Safari, the two browsers on Sling’s list of supported devices. A new private window starts without cookies from earlier visits made from your German address.
Start one Freestream channel, which needs no plan. If you already have a Sling plan, sign in and start one channel from it instead. Let it play for a full minute rather than judging the first few seconds.
If it plays, the connection side is settled. If Sling shows a message about your location, a VPN or a proxy, write the wording down exactly, reconnect once and try once more. If the message comes back, send that wording to USip support; ten more attempts will not change it.
USip publishes its own dated checks on a separate page, USip’s published checks; we do not summarise them here. A check on one day is not a promise for the next, because Sling can change what it accepts at any time.

USip recorded these four videos in September 2021. Their USip connection steps still apply. Sling’s screens and plans have changed since, and the phone videos switch the app-store country — that part is out of date, so leave it out.

Install OpenVPN Connect, import your USip profile and connect; that part of the video has not changed. Then run the four steps above in Chrome. The Sling pages in the video date from 2021, so skip its sign-up section and go by what sling.com shows today.
Step by step: the Windows setup guide.

The Mac video’s connection steps are still right: OpenVPN Connect, your USip profile, connect. After that, Sling runs in Safari or Chrome. Treat the 2021 Sling screens as illustration only; the plans and the sign-up flow look different now.
Step by step: the Mac setup guide.

Follow the video for OpenVPN Connect and your USip profile; that still applies. Leave out its Google Play country switch. Google’s own help page says “To set up a new country or region, you must be in that location”, and that after a change you “must wait at least 90 days”. Do the first check on a computer instead.
Step by step: the Android setup guide.

The USip steps are the same: OpenVPN Connect, your profile, connect. On 9 October 2026 the Sling app was listed in the U.S. App Store and not in the German one, and the video’s App Store country change is out of date, so leave it out. Apple sets its own conditions for moving an Apple Account to another country or region; read them on Apple’s support page.
Step by step: the iOS setup guide.
TVs, streaming sticks and consoles cannot run OpenVPN Connect, so USip uses Smart DNS for them: register your home’s public IP address with USip, then enter the DNS details in the device’s network settings, or once on the router for every device behind it. If your internet provider changes that public address, register the new one. The Smart DNS guide has the steps.
Sling lists Roku, Amazon Fire, Apple TV, Android TV and Google TV, Chromecast, Samsung, LG, Vizio and Xbox Series X|S among its devices. A TV bought in Germany uses a German app store, though, and we have not checked whether those stores offer the Sling app.

One residential U.S. IP — an ordinary consumer address on a U.S. ISP, not a server range. USip and Sling TV are separate services: the plans include the connection only — not a Sling TV subscription, an app-store region or the rights to any channel or game.
Separate services: these prices are for the USip residential U.S. IP service only. Sling TV is a separate service; a Sling TV subscription and access to any particular channel, game or event are not part of a USip plan.
On 9 October 2026 the Sling app, “Sling: Live TV, Sports & News”, was listed in the U.S. App Store and not in the German one. That is the reason this guide starts in a browser.
Apple runs its App Store country by country. An Apple Account set to Germany sees the German store, and the Sling app is not in it.
Moving an Apple Account to another country or region comes with conditions that Apple sets out on its own support page. Read them there before you decide anything.
Google allows a Play country change only when you are actually in the new country, and then not again for at least 90 days. We did not look up the Sling app in the German Play Store.
TVs have app stores of their own. We have not checked whether the German app stores on Samsung or LG televisions list the Sling app, and Smart DNS changes the connection, not the store.
Chrome and Safari need nothing from any store. If Sling plays in a browser on your laptop, you know the connection is fine before a store question even comes up.
The 2021 videos change store countries. We no longer show that, and we do not recommend invented addresses, borrowed U.S. postcodes or unofficial app stores.
We are not lawyers, and nothing here is legal advice. This is what official German sources say, and what we could not find.
We have not found a German law that bans VPN software as such. Germany’s federal IT-security office, the Bundesamt für Sicherheit in der Informationstechnik (BSI), describes VPNs as a way to protect your privacy. Its consumer page says: “We recommend using a VPN (Virtual Private Network) when you want to access your home network.” It suggests one on public Wi-Fi as well. The page was last updated in July 2022.
The BSI adds two cautions that apply to any such service. Choosing a VPN provider “comes down to trust”, because your traffic runs through that provider’s servers. And free VPN apps often have limited functions and may live off their users’ data. Neither is a legal rule; both are sound advice.
RTL, Sky, DAZN, Joyn and Prime Video show U.S. sport in Germany under German rights. Watching through them is the uncomplicated option, with nothing to work out about where you are.
Whether a U.S. service accepts a connection is that service’s decision, under its own rules. We do not interpret them for you, and a U.S. address does not change where you live.
Laws and the way they are read can change. If you need certainty for your own situation, ask a lawyer or a Verbraucherzentrale, Germany’s consumer advice centres.
Short, self-contained answers, checked on 9 October 2026.
No. Sling’s page for visitors outside the U.S. says: “Sling TV, a live TV streaming service, is only available in the United States.” The Sling app was not listed in the German App Store on 9 October 2026 either. A residential U.S. IP changes where Sling sees you connecting from, but Sling decides which connections it accepts and can refuse any of them, USip’s included. For the NFL, NBA and NHL, German broadcasters such as RTL, Sky and DAZN are the direct route.
Possibly, and the only honest way to know is to check. Connect the USip residential U.S. IP on a laptop, make sure the IPv6 line does not show your German provider, open sling.com in a private Chrome or Safari window and start one Freestream channel. If it plays for a minute, the connection side is settled. If a message about location, a VPN or a proxy appears, note its exact words, reconnect once, try once more, then contact USip support.
RTL shows NFL games on free TV every Sunday, an early game from 19:00 and a late one, plus the night games and every European game. RTL+ adds a second early game, and Sky Sport has more games, a Sunday conference and NFL RedZone. DAZN’s NFL Game Pass carries every game, and the NFL Network streams free on Joyn. The Munich game, Patriots v Lions, is on Sunday 15 November 2026 at 15:30.
For 2026–27, Sky shows more than 100 games, including opening night on 20 October, and Prime Video has 67 games exclusively. NBA League Pass is the only way to see every game, and no German free-TV channel has the NBA this season (ran, 5 October 2026). On Sling, ESPN is in Sling Orange and Sling Essentials. TNT’s NBA deal ended after 2024–25, so Sling’s TNT no longer shows NBA games.
According to the NHL’s own German page of 29 September 2026, Sky Sport shows 300 games live on TV and streaming in 2026–27, and every other game is live on NHL.TV through DAZN. Fans of Leon Draisaitl, Tim Stützle or Moritz Seider can therefore follow every game from Germany. Sling would add the U.S. channels’ own coverage, not extra games.
Not from a German address. Freestream is Sling’s free tier — its help centre says “Sling Freestream is like the name says, FREE.” — but it sits behind the same location rule as the plans, so a German connection gets the U.S.-only page. Because it needs no plan, Freestream makes the fairest first check with a residential U.S. IP: if a channel plays, the connection is accepted; if it does not, look at the connection before anything else.
Sling Orange and Sling Essentials. Orange also carries CNN, TNT and TBS, with 30+ channels on Sling’s compare page. Essentials, launched nationwide on 9 April 2026, adds ESPN2, Disney Channel, Freeform and Grit. If NFL Network is what you are after, it is in Sling Select, launched in August 2025, and in Germany it streams free on Joyn. Plans and channel lists change, so check Sling’s compare page.
No. USip and Sling TV are separate services. A USip plan gives you one residential U.S. IP connection, not a Sling plan, not an app-store region and not the rights to any channel or game. Whether Sling accepts the connection is Sling’s decision, and which plans and channels exist is Sling’s business too. USip supplies the address and help with the connection.
Possibly, with two separate hurdles. The connection: TVs, sticks and consoles cannot run OpenVPN Connect, so USip uses Smart DNS, which means registering your home’s public IP address with USip and entering the DNS details on the device or the router. The app: a TV bought in Germany uses a German app store, and we have not checked whether those stores offer the Sling app. Try a laptop browser first.
That is not up to you. USip assigns the residential U.S. address; you do not choose a city, state or server. Sling offers local channels only in some areas — its compare page says “Local channels in select markets like ABC, NBC, FOX, and more.” — so whether you see local stations, and which ones, depends on the address you are given and on Sling.
We have not found a German law that bans VPN software as such, and Germany’s federal IT-security office, the BSI, recommends VPNs for everyday uses such as reaching your home network or using public Wi-Fi. We are not lawyers and this is not legal advice. Whether a particular service accepts a VPN or a residential U.S. IP is a different question, and that decision belongs to the service.
For most of the season the early Sunday games start at 19:00 Berlin time and the late ones at 22:25. The Sunday night game begins at 02:20 on Monday and the Monday night game at 02:15 on Tuesday. From 25 to 31 October 2026 everything is an hour earlier, because Europe changes its clocks a week before the U.S. The Munich game on 15 November kicks off at 15:30.
CNN International is. It is an English-language channel offered in Germany by Sky, MagentaTV, Vodafone GigaTV and waipu.tv, according to the TV Movie listing we read on 9 October 2026. It is the international service, not the U.S. CNN, which is in Sling Orange. We did not find Fox News in any German line-up we could read; on Sling it is in Sling Blue and Sling Select.

The hub covers Sling from anywhere outside the U.S. The other guides do for their own countries what this one does for Germany: local rights, local time and local rules, each checked separately.
First-party pages first, each read on 9 October 2026. Dates in the labels are publication or update dates.
For most American sport, Germany is well looked after in 2026–27: RTL on Sunday evenings, Sky and DAZN for the rest of the NFL and for the NHL, Sky and Prime Video for the NBA, and the NFL Network free on Joyn. Start there, with no question about where you are.
Sling earns its place for the U.S. channels themselves — ESPN, CNN, Fox News, TBS and, in some markets, local stations — and for Americans here who want them. If that is you, run the ten-minute check once, on a laptop, and keep the exact wording of any message Sling shows: it is the most useful thing you can send USip support.
USip supplies the residential U.S. IP connection only. Sling’s plans, channels and decisions about connections are Sling’s, and the German rights belong to the German broadcasters.
