Sling Orange
ESPN, CNN, TNT and TBS lead a list of 30+ channels. This is the plan with ESPN and TNT, the two channels with national NHL schedules in the U.S.
Short answer: not from a Swiss connection. The page Sling shows to visitors from outside the U.S. puts it in one line: “Sling TV, a live TV streaming service, is only available in the United States.” The app is not in the Swiss App Store either: of the nine national App Stores we looked at on 9 October 2026, only the U.S. one listed it. A residential U.S. IP address changes one thing: the address Sling sees, which becomes an ordinary American home connection instead of your Swisscom, Sunrise or Salt line. Sling still decides whether to accept it, and it can refuse any connection, USip’s included.
Before that, look at what Switzerland already has. For the 2026–27 season NHL.com says MySports shows 200 to 300 NHL games here, with up to 20 more free-to-air on CH Media’s channels. The NFL offers every game through its Game Pass, available through DAZN in more than 200 markets; NBA League Pass covers Switzerland; and Quickline’s Swiss channel list carries CNN International and CNBC Europe. What Sling adds is the American channels themselves — ESPN, TNT, Fox News, CNN’s U.S. channel and U.S. local stations where Sling offers them.
The first check takes about ten minutes and needs no Sling plan. On a laptop, connect the residential U.S. IP, make sure an address checker shows the United States, open sling.com in a private window in Chrome or Safari, and start one Freestream channel — Sling’s free tier — or one channel in a plan you already have. Give it a minute. If a message about your location, a VPN or a proxy appears, copy it word for word before you change anything.

Checked on 9 October 2026 against the leagues’ own pages and a current Swiss channel list. Rights change every season, so read the date on each line before you rely on it.
| What you want | Where it is in Switzerland, 2026–27 | Compared with Sling |
|---|---|---|
| NHL hockey — Josi, Hischier, Meier, Fiala and the other Swiss players. | MySports shows 200 to 300 games a season on its pay-TV and streaming platforms. CH Media shows up to 20 free-to-air, in German, French and Italian. Every other game can be watched on NHL.TV through DAZN once it has finished (NHL.com, 29 September 2026). | ESPN and TNT both carry national NHL schedules in the U.S., and both are in Sling Orange. Of ESPN’s 100 exclusive games, 47 are streamed on ESPN+, Disney+ and Hulu rather than shown on a channel (NHL.com, 26 August 2026). |
| NFL football. | The NFL describes Game Pass as “Available internationally only on DAZN in more than 200 markets”, with every game live up to Super Bowl LXI. Its page does not name Switzerland, and we could not confirm a Swiss TV channel with NFL rights for the 2026 season. | ESPN is in Sling Orange and Sling Essentials. NFL Network is in Sling Select and among Sling Blue’s channels. Local stations are offered only in select markets. |
| NBA basketball — Capela, George and Niederhäuser. | NBA League Pass is “available globally except in” eight listed countries, and Switzerland is not one of them (NBA, updated 7 October 2026). We could not confirm a Swiss channel showing NBA games in 2026–27. | Since 2025–26 the U.S. national games are on ESPN and ABC, NBC and Peacock, and Prime Video. ESPN is in Orange and Essentials; Peacock and Prime Video are separate services. |
| U.S. news channels. | Quickline’s Swiss channel list, valid from 7 January 2026, has CNN International HD, CNBC Europe HD and Bloomberg TV among its English-language channels. Fox News is not on it. | Sling Orange carries CNN — the U.S. channel, not CNN International. Fox News is in Sling Blue and Sling Select. |
Hockey is where the Swiss interest in American sport shows most clearly. NHL.com’s list of Switzerland’s Olympic roster, published on 7 January 2026, named NHL players including Roman Josi (Nashville), Nico Hischier, Timo Meier and Jonas Siegenthaler (New Jersey), Kevin Fiala (Los Angeles), Nino Niederreiter (Winnipeg), Pius Suter (St. Louis), Philipp Kurashev (San Jose), J.J. Moser (Tampa Bay) and Akira Schmid (Vegas). Its own summary: “This is the first group of NHL players to represent Switzerland at the Olympics since 2014”. Clubs are as NHL.com gave them then.
For volume, the Swiss route wins on the numbers. MySports’ 200 to 300 games are more than the U.S. national channels on Sling can show: of ESPN’s 100 exclusive games, 53 are on ESPN and ABC, and TNT Sports has 72. MySports is not tied to one provider, either — Quickline’s January 2026 list offers it as an add-on package. What Sling offers a hockey fan is the American broadcast of the national games, with U.S. commentators and studio shows.
For American football, the league’s own international route is Game Pass through DAZN, which the NFL says includes NFL RedZone and NFL Network. Basketball has its Swiss names too: Swiss Impact USA listed Clint Capela at the Houston Rockets, Kyshawn George at the Washington Wizards and Yanic Konan Niederhäuser at the Los Angeles Clippers in January 2026. We left baseball out of the table: MLB’s own help pages did not load for us on 9 October 2026, so we could not confirm how MLB reaches Switzerland.
Rights change every season, and sometimes in the middle of one. Before a big game, look at MySports’, DAZN’s or the league’s own page. A Swiss service that holds the rights is the straightforward legal way to watch here; Sling is a U.S. service that may or may not accept a residential U.S. IP.

Sling is an American live-TV streaming service owned by EchoStar. Older guides, including the previous version of USip’s own Sling page, describe only Orange and Blue; Sling’s compare page, read on 9 October 2026, shows a wider line-up.
ESPN, CNN, TNT and TBS lead a list of 30+ channels. This is the plan with ESPN and TNT, the two channels with national NHL schedules in the U.S.
Fox News, USA and Bravo head a list of 40+ channels, and NFL Network is among them. Sling’s compare page does not list ESPN for Blue.
The two line-ups together, with ESPN and TNT from Orange and Fox News from Blue; Sling counts 50+ channels in all.
ESPN, Disney Channel, Freeform and Grit. EchoStar announced its nationwide launch on 9 April 2026.
Fox News, NFL Network, FX and National Geographic. Kiplinger reported its launch in August 2025.
Sling’s free, advertising-supported tier, launched on 9 February 2023. It needs no plan, which makes it the cleanest first check.
Two more points are worth knowing. The short-term Day, Weekend and Week passes Sling launched in August 2025 had been withdrawn by October 2026, as Cord Cutters News reported on 5 October. And Sling offers local stations only where it has them: “Local channels in select markets like ABC, NBC, FOX, and more.” USip assigns the U.S. address, so you don’t choose the market and can’t aim for a particular station. Sling’s International packages add channels in other languages for viewers in the U.S.; they do not make Sling available abroad.

For most of the season Switzerland is six hours ahead of New York and nine ahead of Los Angeles. Twice a year the gap shrinks to five hours for a week or two, because Europe and the U.S. change their clocks on different dates. We computed every time below with Python’s zoneinfo on 9 October 2026.
| U.S. start, Eastern time | In Switzerland, most weeks | 25–31 Oct 2026 and 14–27 Mar 2027 | What usually starts then |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sunday 1:00 p.m. | Sunday 19:00 | Sunday 18:00 | Early NFL Sunday games. |
| Sunday 4:25 p.m. | Sunday 22:25 | Sunday 21:25 | Late NFL Sunday games. |
| Sunday 8:20 p.m. | Monday 02:20 | Monday 01:20 | The NFL’s Sunday night game. |
| Monday 8:15 p.m. | Tuesday 02:15 | Tuesday 01:15 | The NFL’s Monday night game. |
| Weeknight 7:00 or 7:30 p.m. | 01:00 or 01:30, next day | 00:00 or 00:30, next day | East Coast hockey and basketball. |
| 10:00 p.m. (7:00 p.m. Pacific) | 04:00, next day | 03:00, next day | West Coast evening games. |
“Most weeks” means until 24 October 2026, from 1 November 2026 to 13 March 2027, and again from 28 March 2027. The short spells come from the clock changes: Switzerland returns to winter time on Sunday 25 October 2026 and moves to summer time on Sunday 28 March 2027, while the U.S. changes on Sunday 1 November 2026 and Sunday 14 March 2027. In between, every U.S. game reaches Zurich an hour earlier than usual. On the two nights Europe changes its clocks, late games already fall on the other side: a 10:00 p.m. game on Saturday 24 October 2026 starts at 03:00 in Zurich, and one on Saturday 27 March 2027 at 04:00.
Hockey and basketball live deep in the Swiss night. The NHL season began on Tuesday 29 September 2026, and NBA.com puts the NBA’s opening night on Tuesday 20 October; its regular season runs to Sunday 11 April 2027, after Europe’s spring change, so the March spell matters for both leagues. Sunday afternoon football is the friendly exception, with early games at 19:00 and late ones at 22:25.
For a 01:00 face-off, think about replay before you think about live TV. In Switzerland, NHL.TV on DAZN offers games once they have finished, which may suit a working week better than a U.S. channel at the moment of play.

Sling reads the public address your connection comes from. On a Swiss line that address is Swiss, whichever provider runs it — the market shares below change nothing about that.
| Provider | Fixed broadband, end of 2024 | Mobile, end of 2024 |
|---|---|---|
| Swisscom | 47.2% | About 53.1% |
| Sunrise | 28% | 23.6% |
| Salt | 6% | 17.7% |
| Quickline | 4.5% | Not shown separately |
| iWay and Green | 1.9% and 1% | Not shown separately |
| Everyone else | 11.4%, shared by 144 providers | 5.5%, other operators and secondary brands |
The figures are ComCom’s, from pages it published on 29 May 2026 using data from OFCOM’s statistical observatory. They describe the end of 2024, the newest market shares the regulator showed when we read its pages on 9 October 2026. Swisscom is far ahead on both fixed and mobile lines; Sunrise is second and Salt third.
For Sling, the provider matters less than three details of how you connect. If your line also has an IPv6 address, a browser may use it alongside IPv4; when the U.S. connection is up, an IPv6 line that still names your Swiss provider means Sling may see Switzerland through it. A phone on mobile data has its own Swiss address, and a connection set up on the home computer does not travel with it. And office, university and hotel networks set their own rules for outgoing connections, so make the first check at home.

What Sling is likely to see in each case, in plain terms. None of these routes makes Sling say yes; they differ in what they show it.
| Route | What Sling sees | Honest note |
|---|---|---|
| Your own Swiss line or mobile data. | A Swiss address from Swisscom, Sunrise, Salt or another provider. | Sling’s answer is its U.S.-only line. This is the right route for MySports, DAZN and Swiss TV. |
| A free VPN app. | Usually a server address shared by many users at once. | A crowded server address is easy for a streaming service to recognise as a VPN. |
| A data-centre VPN service. | An address from a hosting company’s range, in the U.S. if the app offers U.S. locations. | The country may be right, but the address belongs to a data centre, not a home. |
| USip residential U.S. IP. | One ordinary home address on a U.S. internet provider, assigned by USip. | It changes the address and nothing else. Sling can still refuse it, and you don’t choose the city or the state. |
Everything else — plans, channels and the final decision — stays with Sling.
USip supplies a connection, not a Sling plan and not the rights to any channel or game.
Older instructions, including an earlier version of our own Sling page, spoke of choosing a U.S. connection inside USip. There is no such step: you connect, and the U.S. address is assigned to you.

Four steps in a fixed order, so that a problem points to one cause. You need a laptop and USip, and no Sling plan.
On a Windows PC or a Mac, connect USip in the OpenVPN Connect app (the Windows guide and the Mac guide show how), then open an IP address checker. The IPv4 line must show the United States. If there is an IPv6 line, it must not name Swisscom, Sunrise, Salt or any other Swiss provider.
Use Chrome or Safari, the two browsers Sling lists. A private window carries no cookies from an earlier visit over your Swiss line, so Sling starts from the U.S. address alone.
Open a Sling Freestream channel, which needs no plan — or, if you already have a Sling plan, sign in and start one channel in it. Let it run for a full minute: a picture that starts and keeps going is the result you are looking for.
If Sling shows a message about your location, a VPN or a proxy, write it down word for word. Reconnect USip once, open a new private window and try one more time. If the message comes back, send the exact wording to USip support instead of trying again and again.
A Freestream channel that plays tells you Sling accepted the connection that evening. It says nothing about local stations, blackouts or what a plan includes, and Sling can change its decision later.
USip keeps a dated record of its own Sling checks on a separate page: USip’s published checks. Read the entries there rather than relying on anyone’s summary.

The browser on a laptop comes first because no app store is involved. USip’s four setup videos were recorded in September 2021: the USip connection steps in them still apply, but the Sling screens are from 2021, and the parts where the phone videos switch the App Store or Google Play country and sign up for Sling are out of date — skip those.

Install OpenVPN Connect with your USip profile, connect, and open sling.com in Chrome, one of the two browsers Sling lists. When you go back to MySports or DAZN, disconnect USip first and use them on your normal Swiss connection, so the Swiss and U.S. sessions never mix.
The video’s connection steps are current; the Sling pages it shows date from 2021.
Step by step: the Windows setup guide.

On a Mac, OpenVPN Connect with the USip profile does the same job, and both Safari and Chrome are on Sling’s list. If one browser plays and the other shows a location message, compare the IPv6 line in each before you change anything else.
The USip steps in the Mac video still apply; Sling’s own screens have changed since 2021.
Step by step: the Mac setup guide.

Run OpenVPN Connect on the phone, not just on your computer: a phone on Swiss mobile data has its own Swiss address. The Sling app comes from Google Play, which follows your Google account’s country — see the app-store section below for Google’s own rule.
The video’s Play Store switch is out of date, so leave it out. If the app is not offered to you, stay with the laptop.
Step by step: the Android setup guide.

When we checked nine national App Stores on 9 October 2026, the Sling app was listed in the U.S. one only, not in the Swiss one. The store you see follows your Apple Account’s country, and Apple sets its own conditions for changing it.
The iPhone video shows a store-country switch from 2021; skip that part. Its USip connection steps still apply.
Step by step: the iOS setup guide.
Televisions, streaming sticks and consoles can’t run the OpenVPN Connect app, so USip sets them up with Smart DNS. Register your home’s public IP address with USip, then enter the DNS details in the device’s network settings, or once on the router. If your Swiss provider changes that public address, register the new one. The Smart DNS guide has every step.
A smart TV or stick also needs the Sling app from its own store, and we did not check which TV stores offer it in Switzerland. Get the laptop working first.

One residential U.S. IP — an ordinary consumer address on a U.S. ISP, not a server range. USip and Sling TV are separate services: the plans include the connection only — not a Sling TV subscription, an app-store region or the rights to any channel or game.
Separate services: these prices are for the USip residential U.S. IP service only. Sling TV is a separate service; a Sling TV subscription and access to any particular channel, game or event are not part of a USip plan.
Apps follow the country of your store account, not your internet connection. That is a separate question from the address Sling sees, and USip does not change it.
Of the nine App Store countries we checked, only the U.S. lists “Sling: Live TV, Sports & News”. Your Apple Account’s country decides which store you see, and Apple’s support page on changing it lists the conditions.
Google’s help page is plain: “To set up a new country or region, you must be in that location”. After a change you must wait at least 90 days before the next one. We did not check Google Play country by country.
A browser on Windows or macOS needs no store at all, and Sling lists Chrome and Safari among its supported browsers. Get Sling working there before you think about phones and TVs.
We don’t suggest made-up U.S. addresses, borrowed accounts or app stores other than Apple’s and Google’s. If your store does not offer the Sling app, the browser on a laptop is the honest place to start.

We have not found a Swiss law that bans VPN software as such, and a federal office recommends VPNs on public Wi-Fi. We are not lawyers, and this is not legal advice.
The clearest official word comes from Switzerland’s Federal Office for Cybersecurity (NCSC). Its advice on public Wi-Fi, published on 23 July 2024, says: “If you can, use a Virtual Private Network (VPN).” That is advice about security, not a statement about streaming services, and it does not mention Sling or any other one.
You may also have read about changes to Switzerland’s telecom surveillance rules. The Federal Council opened a consultation on 29 January 2025 on new rules for the companies that must cooperate with telecom surveillance. On 11 February 2026 it took note of the results and said a second consultation would follow once a final draft is ready. Neither release mentions VPN software or private users.
We looked for a statute or regulator text that forbids private VPN use and found none; the federal advice above points the other way. Separately, Sling decides which connections it accepts, and it can refuse any of them, USip’s included.
We are not lawyers. Whether a particular use is in order depends on details we don’t see. If it matters to you, ask a Swiss lawyer before you rely on this page.

Answered from Sling’s own pages, the leagues’ pages, a Swiss channel list, ComCom’s figures and the federal administration’s advice. Where we could not confirm something, we say so.
No. Sling is a U.S. service, and its page for visitors from elsewhere says: “Sling TV, a live TV streaming service, is only available in the United States.” On 9 October 2026 the Sling app was not in the Swiss App Store either; of nine stores we checked, only the U.S. one listed it. From Switzerland, Sling can only be reached over a U.S. connection, and Sling decides whether to accept that connection.
That is Sling’s decision, not ours. A residential U.S. IP shows Sling an ordinary American home address instead of your Swiss one, and that is all it changes. Sling can refuse any connection, USip’s included. The fair way to find out is the ten-minute check on this page: a laptop, a private window, one Freestream channel and one minute.
For 2026–27, NHL.com says MySports shows 200 to 300 games a season in Switzerland on its pay-TV and streaming platforms, and CH Media shows up to 20 free-to-air in German, French and Italian. Every other game is on NHL.TV through DAZN once it has finished. On Sling, ESPN and TNT, which carry the U.S. national games, are both in Sling Orange. Rights change every season.
The league’s international route is Game Pass through DAZN, which the NFL describes as “Available internationally only on DAZN in more than 200 markets”, with every game live up to Super Bowl LXI. The NFL’s page does not name Switzerland, and we could not confirm a Swiss TV channel with NFL rights for the 2026 season. On Sling, ESPN is in Orange and Essentials, and NFL Network in Select and among Blue’s channels.
Yes, through NBA League Pass, which the NBA says is “available globally except in” Belarus, China, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Russia, Syria and Ukraine (updated 7 October 2026); local viewing restrictions may apply. We could not confirm a Swiss channel with NBA rights for 2026–27. The season opens on 20 October 2026, and in the U.S. the national games are on ESPN and ABC, NBC and Peacock, and Prime Video.
No. Freestream is Sling’s free, advertising-supported tier, launched on 9 February 2023, and it sits behind the same U.S.-only line as Sling’s plans. Because it needs no plan, it is the best first check over a residential U.S. IP: a Freestream channel that plays or refuses tells you about the connection, not about an account.
ESPN is in Sling Orange, alongside CNN, TNT and TBS among 30+ channels, and in Sling Essentials, alongside Disney Channel, Freeform and Grit, which EchoStar launched nationwide on 9 April 2026. Any combination that includes either plan has it too. Sling Blue and Sling Select do not list ESPN. ESPN’s streaming-only NHL games are on ESPN+, Disney+ and Hulu, not on the ESPN channel.
No. USip supplies one residential U.S. IP address — the connection and nothing else. A Sling plan, the local stations and every channel and game belong to Sling and the rights holders. USip assigns the U.S. address, so you don’t choose the city or the local stations, and it does not change blackouts or what a plan includes.
Not with the OpenVPN Connect app, which televisions, sticks and consoles can’t run. USip sets those up with Smart DNS: register your home’s public IP address with USip, then enter the DNS details on the device or once on the router. The TV also needs the Sling app from its own store, which we did not check for Switzerland. Get a laptop browser working first.
Usually six hours after New York. Early NFL Sunday games start at 19:00 in Zurich and the late ones at 22:25; the Sunday night game starts at 02:20 on Monday and the Monday night game at 02:15 on Tuesday. A 7:00 p.m. hockey game in New York starts at 01:00. From 25 to 31 October 2026 and from 14 to 27 March 2027, everything is an hour earlier.
We have not found a Swiss law that bans VPN software as such, and Switzerland’s Federal Office for Cybersecurity recommends one on public Wi-Fi: “If you can, use a Virtual Private Network (VPN).” That is security advice, not a statement about streaming. We are not lawyers; if your situation depends on it, ask a Swiss lawyer. Sling, for its part, decides which connections it accepts.
It means Sling did not accept the connection it saw. Sling does not explain its checks, and its help articles did not open for us from outside the U.S. Write the message down word for word, make sure the IPv6 line of an address checker doesn’t name your Swiss provider, reconnect USip once and try one more time in a new private window. If the message returns, send the exact wording to USip support.

The hub covers Sling’s plans and messages for every country. The other European guides share Switzerland’s evenings: Berlin and Amsterdam keep Zurich’s time, and London and Dublin run an hour behind.
The main pages behind this guide, each read on 9 October 2026. Rights holders, channel lists and Sling’s plans can change without notice, so page dates are given where they matter. Other facts are attributed in the text.
If you want hockey in quantity, the Swiss route is hard to beat: MySports’ 200 to 300 games, CH Media’s free-to-air games and NHL.TV on DAZN once games are over. The NFL and the NBA have their own international services as well. Sling adds the American channels themselves — ESPN, TNT, Fox News and CNN’s U.S. channel — with U.S. commentary, and U.S. local stations where Sling offers them.
If that is what you want, the order never changes: a laptop, the residential U.S. IP, both address lines, a private window, one Freestream channel and one minute. If it plays, add the phone and then the TV. If Sling shows a message, write it down, retry once and send it to USip support — Sling decides, not us.
USip supplies the residential U.S. IP connection only. Sling plans, channels and game rights belong to Sling and the rights holders, and Sling can refuse any connection.
