Vudu is now Fandango at Home. It is a US transactional video service where you rent, buy and collect titles rather than pay for one subscription catalogue. Outside the United States, the service can block access before your library loads.
Vudu was renamed Fandango at Home in 2024. The account, catalogue and eligible purchases carried across, so a film bought under the Vudu name belongs to the same library now presented by Fandango.
The transition still causes real confusion: the consumer site is athome.fandango.com, older links and searches still use vudu.com, and apps can show either name depending on their platform and update history.
Your library does not become a second account because the name changed.
Fandango licenses streaming content by territory. Its current streaming policy says the service and content can be accessed only from within the United States, with some US territories and possessions excluded in some cases.
The site checks the public IP before the normal account experience loads. A non-US result can send the browser directly to athome.fandango.com/region-error.
/region-error, the location check failed before password, payment and library details became relevant.Fandango's help centre says streaming is only available in the United States. Its streaming policy adds that some territories and possessions can be excluded.
Fandango at Home is transactional rather than subscription-based. When the service is unavailable, the immediate loss is access to individual purchases and rentals, not merely a monthly catalogue.
A location block does not itself delete the account or its purchase history. Fandango still controls long-term availability under its licences and usage rights.
Do not repurchase a title just because the site is showing a region error.
The library cannot load normally while the service's country check fails. An account with two hundred titles reaches the same region-error path as an empty one.
Treat this first as a location decision, not a missing-purchase dispute.
Fandango's app listings and policy allow eligible purchased or rented content to be downloaded on supported devices. Availability and viewing windows remain title-specific.
Download eligible titles before travelling and review the displayed usage rights.
Fandango at Home has no standard streaming subscription. The useful comparison is the label attached to each title.
| Label | What it is | Does the network country matter? |
|---|---|---|
| Buy | A one-off purchase with repeated access subject to Fandango's usage rights and licences. | Yes. The service must load before the library can stream. |
| Rent | Time-limited access with a window to start and, after playback begins, a window to finish. | Yes. A rental window can continue running while the service is unavailable. |
| Free with ads | Ad-supported films and programmes that can rotate in and out. | Yes. They use the same Fandango service and location rules. |
| Movies Anywhere | An eligible film synced between participating digital retailers. | Fandango playback is still US-limited, but the eligible title may also appear in another connected retailer. |
A residential endpoint can make the public connection appear to come from a US household network. It does not rewrite facts stored by Fandango, Apple, Google, Roku, Amazon or a console platform.
/region-error is caused by network countryStart on Windows or Mac. The written steps describe the USip app, while the videos show the still-valid OpenVPN configuration. Both create the connection layer; a clean browser is simply easier to diagnose than a phone app or television.
Windows removes the app-store variable and is the clearest first test.
If /region-error remains: clear cookies for both domains, revoke site-location permission and retry once.
Mac follows the same browser test, with iCloud Private Relay as an extra competing route.
If Chrome works and Safari fails: check Private Relay and Safari's per-site location permission.
The iOS app is distributed through the US App Store; a US IP does not change the Apple Account storefront.
Travel preparation: download eligible purchased or rented titles in the supported app before departure and check their usage window.
Google Play currently lists the Fandango streaming app in multiple non-US storefronts, but installation and playback are separate questions.
Browser works, app fails: the connection layer is ready; reset app data and sign in again before changing anything else.
For TVs, streaming devices and gaming consoles, use USip Smart DNS on the device or router. First register your home network’s public IP with USip from that same network, then enter the USip DNS settings. Smart DNS does not create a VPN connection, so an ordinary IP-check website may still show your real country. The streaming app, account, subscription and device-store availability remain separate requirements.
Fandango can redirect the browser to a separate path rather than displaying an error inside its normal interface:
That result means the public connection was read as outside the supported service area. It occurs before the normal account and library experience loads.
When /region-error is visible, stop changing the password, payment method or purchase history. None of those fields caused this page to appear.
First verify the public country and discard the old browser session.
Each check should answer one question. Avoid changing the account, store region and device at the same time.
| # | Check | What the result tells you |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Read the address bar | /region-error means the network-country check failed. Another page means a different problem. |
| 2 | Confirm the public country | If it does not read United States, stop. Later account and device checks cannot solve that. |
| 3 | Discard the previous session | Use a private window and clear both Fandango and Vudu cookies. A fix here identifies stale session state. |
| 4 | Try the browser before the app | Browser works, app fails: the network is fine and the app session or store route is different. |
| 5 | Check the app-store account | An app that cannot be installed is an account-store issue, not proof that the IP failed. |
| 6 | Check the rental window | A rental clock follows the title's usage rights and does not pause because playback is blocked. |
| 7 | Check Movies Anywhere | An eligible film may already be synced to another connected digital retailer. |
| 8 | Move to the TV last | TVs add router, device-store and cached-app variables while providing the least useful errors. |
Vudu is the transactional case: the inaccessible asset is a purchased library. The other hubs explain subscription services and regional catalogues.
A US-only subscription with TV-provider, billing and app-store layers.
US Prime Video outside the USA global service with regional catalogues, purchases and Channels.
Peacock outside the USA US subscription service with separate Sky and SkyShowtime routes abroad.

The refusal reads the same line everywhere. What differs is what you are starting from, what you may already have bought, and which of the usual fixes are dead ends where you live.
Why EU portability rules give you nothing here, and what happens to a library you bought before you moved.

Yes. Vudu was renamed Fandango at Home. The account, catalogue and eligible purchases carried across, and both names can still appear on websites, apps and devices.
No. Fandango says its streaming service is available only in the United States. From another country, the site can redirect to a page reading “Streaming on Fandango is not available in your region.”
Fandango read the public connection as outside its supported service area and stopped before loading the normal site. It is a network-country result, not proof of a password, billing or purchase-history problem.
A location block does not itself delete the account or its purchase records, but the library cannot stream normally while the service is unavailable. Fandango's licences and title-specific usage rights still govern long-term access.
Yes, for eligible purchased or rented content on supported devices. Fandango says download availability, device support and viewing windows can vary, so download before departure and review the usage rights shown for the title.
No. A US IP address addresses the network-country layer only. It does not create an account, change billing, move an app-store country, extend a rental window or guarantee that Fandango will accept the connection.
Fandango's help centre says it does not permit streaming access through an IP address identified as a Proxy, VPN or Tor address. That is Fandango's rule for its own service and should be considered before proceeding.
Rental viewing periods are set by the title's usage rights and can include separate windows to start and finish playback. They do not automatically pause because the service is unavailable from the current connection.
Sometimes. Eligible films can sync between Fandango and participating digital retailers, so the same purchase may already appear in another connected service. Eligibility and playback still depend on Movies Anywhere and that retailer's rules.
The streaming site must first pass its US service-area check, while registration and payment are separate checks. Fandango can validate the payment method and requires accurate billing information; contact its support for a specific non-US card.
A browser VPN test and a TV Smart DNS test use different connection methods. Check that your current home public IP is registered with USip and the TV or router uses the USip DNS settings. Then check the app’s availability, device-store region, account, saved app data and the exact playback error. A successful browser test does not by itself prove the TV setup is correct.
Fandango's streaming policy says the service is available within the United States and that some territories and possessions can be excluded. It does not publish one clear list covering every territory, so confirm directly with Fandango for your location.
Fandango, Vudu, Movies Anywhere, Apple and Google are third-party services and are not affiliated with USip VPN. Availability, usage rights, downloads, devices and policies can change; verify current details with the provider.
That sequence separates Fandango's location decision from account, rental, app-store and final-device issues.
