Pick one Included title
Choose one film or series known to be Included with Prime in the US — not a rental, Channel title or live event.
Reason: one clean title removes three entitlement variables.
Prime Video works internationally, but Amazon changes the catalogue and some entitlements when you cross a border. A residential US IP changes the network location Prime Video sees; it does not rewrite your Amazon marketplace, membership, purchases or Channel subscriptions.

Amazon licenses films, series and live events country by country. Prime Video reads the network location of your device and serves the catalogue for that storefront. That is the check a US IP address changes — but it is not the only check that decides whether a title plays.
| Label on the title | What it is | Does a US IP address affect it? |
|---|---|---|
| Included with Prime | Part of the catalogue covered by an active Prime or Prime Video membership. | Yes. Catalogue is selected partly from the country Prime Video detects. |
| Rent or Buy | A one-off digital transaction attached to the Amazon account and marketplace. | No — and it does not need to. Amazon says purchased and rented titles can travel with you. |
| Subscribe (a Channel) | A separate add-on subscription billed through Prime Video, such as Paramount+, Max or Starz. | No. Amazon limits add-on subscriptions to the account’s home country. |
| Live event or sports | Time-limited rights that can be narrower than the on-demand catalogue. | Sometimes. Treat every event as a separate rights case. |
Prime Video is more generous with purchases and downloads than many readers expect, and stricter with add-on Channels. The table below follows Amazon’s own help pages.
| What you have | Outside your home country | Primary source |
|---|---|---|
| Prime membership | Works, but Amazon gives you a travel selection rather than guaranteeing the full home catalogue. | Prime Video Help |
| Titles bought or rented | Stream normally. Amazon says purchases and rentals may be streamed while you travel outside your country of residence. | Prime Video Help |
| Downloads made before travel | Compatible downloads can play offline anywhere in the world. | Travel guidance |
| Prime Video Channels | Do not travel. Amazon says add-on subscriptions are available only in the home country. | Channels abroad |
| EU resident travelling inside the EU | The home catalogue follows you under EU portability rules. | Travel guidance |
| EU resident outside the EU | Amazon says Amazon Originals remain available to stream and download. | Travel guidance |
| EU resident in the UK | EU portability does not apply because the UK is outside the EU. | Travel guidance |
Start in a desktop browser before you change a TV, phone or app-store account. A browser shows the detected country, sign-in state, title label and error text in one place; every other device hides at least one of them.
Choose one film or series known to be Included with Prime in the US — not a rental, Channel title or live event.
Reason: one clean title removes three entitlement variables.
Close every Amazon tab, connect to a US residential endpoint, and confirm your public country reads United States.
Reason: an open Prime Video session can keep the previous location.
Open primevideo.com in a clean private browser session and sign in to the intended Amazon account.
Reason: this discards the cookies most likely to preserve the old storefront.
If it still says Rent or Subscribe, the network may be working and the title is simply not included in the US catalogue.
Decision: the label is evidence, not just an error state.
A residential US IP changes the country Prime Video detects and therefore which catalogue it serves. Everything else below remains attached to Amazon or to the rights on the title.
The country is only one signal. Prime Video can also distinguish a heavily reused hosting-provider address from the kind of consumer ISP address a household normally uses.
| Connection type | What Prime Video sees | Where it falls down |
|---|---|---|
| US home broadband | A household ISP address in a real US market. | Only works at that address. |
| Free shared VPN | A heavily reused server address that changes often. | Congestion, unstable location and the highest chance of being flagged. |
| Standard data-centre VPN | A US address registered to a hosting company. | Hosting-provider address ranges are published and identifiable in bulk. |
| Residential US IP | A US consumer-ISP address of the kind a household uses. | Changes the catalogue signal — not the Amazon marketplace, membership, Channels or purchases. |

The Prime Video app is already available in the major app stores where Prime Video is supported. Unlike Hulu, most readers do not need to change Google Play or Apple Account country just to install it. What remains is the network, the cached session and — on a TV — the marketplace registered to the device.

Windows is the best first test because there is no app-store layer. If it fails here, the remaining causes are the network, browser session, Amazon account or title rights.

A Mac behaves like Windows, with one extra conflict: iCloud Private Relay can route Safari traffic through Apple’s network instead of the connection you are testing.

Install Prime Video from your normal Play Store. The main Android issue is stale app data, not store country.
Hulu is different because its app-store availability can depend on country; see the Hulu hub before applying the same workflow there.

Prime Video is available in the local App Store where the service is supported. You normally do not need a US Apple Account or gift card just to install it.
For Hulu’s separate App Store requirements, use the Hulu guide.

Do this last, after the browser test passes. A television is harder to diagnose because it usually receives the US connection from a compatible router, and its error messages reveal less than a browser does.
The plan covers the residential US IP connection only. Amazon Prime, Prime Video, Channels, rentals and purchases remain separate services billed by Amazon or the provider.
€9.99 each month after the 3-day trial.
€39 every six months after the 3-day trial.
€69 per year after the 3-day trial.
An Amazon account can belong to one marketplace and billing profile while Prime Video is being used from another country. The public IP does not move the account, digital orders, payment address or home-country subscription.
A title marked Included with Prime depends on the membership catalogue. Rent and Buy create separate digital orders. Subscribe identifies a Channel billed independently through Amazon. A subscription bought directly from another provider does not automatically become the equivalent Prime Video Channel.
Run these checks in order. Each step ends with a decision so you know whether to continue or stop changing a layer that already works.
If it does not read United States, stop. Nothing below this line can prove the US catalogue yet.
Use a private window and cleared cookies. If this fixes it, the IP was not the failed layer.
A Channel, rental or live event cannot prove the membership catalogue is wrong.
Still Rent on a US connection? Then the title is not included in the US either. That is an answer, not a failed setup.
Your storefront and billing profile are account settings. A US IP does not move either one.
Amazon limits add-ons to the home country. Expect a Channel to behave differently from an included Prime title.
Event rights and blackouts are narrower than catalogue rights and can change from event to event.
If the browser works and the device does not, the network is fine; reset the app session or device registration path.
Use Amazon’s own error guidance. Do not guess at account or usage restrictions from a generic playback screen.
Use the resource that matches the result you saw rather than repeating the same network test on another device.

Yes. Prime Video works abroad — Amazon states that Prime members can stream a selection of titles outside their home country. What changes is which titles: you get a travel selection, not a guarantee of your full home catalogue.
Because Amazon licenses each film and series country by country. Prime Video reads the network location you connect from, selects a country storefront and serves that catalogue; account entitlements then decide which offers you own.
Prime Video is part of Prime in markets where Amazon sells that combined membership, but catalogues, prices and membership formats vary by country. A Prime membership bought in Germany remains a German membership at a German price; it is not a shortcut to a US account.
Because that title is not in the membership catalogue currently being served to the account. Rent and Buy are one-off transactions; Subscribe means a separate Channel. A network change can alter the storefront label, but it does not purchase or activate anything.
It changes the country Prime Video detects and therefore which catalogue it serves. It does not change your Amazon marketplace, billing address, Prime membership, purchases or any Channel subscription.
No. Amazon states that Prime Video add-on subscriptions are available to stream only within your home country. That is an account rule, so no IP address activates a Channel while you are abroad.
They travel with you. Amazon says purchased and rented titles may be streamed outside your country of residence. Rental windows still expire, and individual rights can change, but access is not tied to the catalogue selected for included titles.
Because the browser and TV do not share the same session. A successful browser test proves the network layer; the remaining difference is the TV app’s cached state, the account signed in there or, on Fire TV, the marketplace registered to the device.
Amazon currently lists four concurrent streams with the standard Prime Video benefit and five with Prime Video Ultra. Per-title, device, live-event and provider sub-limits can still apply.
Because rights are held title by title. One item can have a different licence, release date, Channel requirement or live-event territory. If other included titles play, the setup is working and that item is the exception.
Close every Amazon tab, connect to the US residential IP, confirm your public country reads United States, then open Prime Video in a private window. This order prevents the previous session from controlling the result.
No. A residential US IP changes network location and nothing else. Amazon’s terms, Prime Video usage rules, title licences and account conditions still apply.
Prime Video and Amazon are third-party services and are not affiliated with USip VPN. Prices, catalogues, device support and travel rules can change; verify current details on Amazon before purchase or travel.
Start with one included title in a private browser.
That single test separates network location from marketplace, membership, Channels and device state without unnecessary account changes.
