HBO Max in Egypt: It Has Never Been Sold Here

No Egyptian HBO Max has ever existed, and no country in the region is on HBO Max’s list. But Egypt has something none of its wealthier neighbours does: the cheap tier, and a way of paying for it that needs no card at all.

Short answer

HBO Max has never operated in Egypt, and nothing has been announced. HBO content reaches Egyptian viewers through OSN+, which holds it exclusively across the region — and Egypt is one of the markets where OSN sells its ad-supported tier, at 90 EGP a month, against 140 EGP for the ad-free Standard plan. Neither is sold through an app store: you subscribe by sending a text message to your mobile operator.

90 Pounds a Month, Bought by SMS

Two things make Egypt different from every other market in this set, and both are on OSN’s own support pages.

The first is the price. OSN+ sells three tiers across the region — Premium, Standard, and Standard with Ads — but the ad-supported one is only offered in certain markets. OSN lists them:

“currently available in Egypt, Bahrain, Oman, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Iraq, Palestine, Algeria, Libya, Tunisia, and Yemen.” — OSN+ Help — subscription prices and plans

Egypt is first on that list. The Gulf states are not on it at all — a reader in Dubai or Riyadh cannot buy the cheap tier at any price, and starts at the full Standard rate. In Cairo the entry point is 90 EGP a month, which is in the region of two American dollars.

OSN+ Egypt, from OSN’s own Vodafone and Etisalat subscription pages

OSN+ in EgyptPrice per monthHow you buy it
Standard with Ads90 EGPText OSNS to 7785 on Vodafone, or 1722 on Etisalat
Standard, no ads140 EGPText OSNM to the same shortcode
Premium, 4KNot listed on OSN’s Egyptian pages—

The second peculiarity is that mechanism. There is no card checkout in the flow OSN documents for Egypt and no app-store purchase: the subscription is activated by SMS and billed by Vodafone, Etisalat or Orange alongside the phone bill. For a market where card penetration is far from universal, that is not a quirk — it is the product decision that makes the whole thing reachable.

What it buys is the real catalogue. OSN holds HBO exclusively across the Middle East and North Africa, and has committed to releasing the titles at the same time as their international premieres. When House of the Dragon returned in June 2026, OSN reported that 42% of its active subscribers across the region had watched the first episode within a day.

“Exclusive HBO, and Paramount+ content.” — OSN+ Help — what differentiates OSN

What 90 EGP does not buy, and what nothing sold in Egypt buys, is HBO Max’s American live sport. That slate sits on a United States plan against United States rights.

The list, and what is not on it

Where HBO Max Is Actually Sold

HBO Max publishes its own country list, and Egypt sits in the double blind spot on it — African and Middle Eastern at once.

HBO Max’s own availability list, read on 24 September 2026

RegionOn HBO Max’s list?Note
United States and its territoriesYesThe U.S. library, U.S. release dates and the live-sports slate
Europe and Central AsiaYesAround 45 countries, Türkiye included — Egypt’s neighbour across the Mediterranean
Latin America and the CaribbeanYesEffectively all of it
Asia-PacificYesIncluding Pakistan and Bangladesh, and India since April 2026
Africa and the Middle EastNoNeither region has a single country on the list. Egypt belongs to both

Look at what that means in practice. HBO Max is in Türkiye, across the water. It is in Pakistan and Bangladesh, countries with comparable income per head. Egypt, with a population above 100 million, is in neither the African nor the Middle Eastern list, because neither list exists.

The reason is the same one that explains the Gulf: the regional rights are committed to OSN under a multi-year exclusive arrangement, and Warner Bros. Discovery bought roughly a third of OSN Streaming in March 2025. OSN confirmed in December 2025 that those agreements “remain fully in effect”.

“Prices don’t include applicable taxes.” — HBO Max Help — plans and prices

“Live Sports on HBO Max is included with the Standard and Premium plans.” — HBO Max Help — sports

That sports line is the part that does not travel and the part most people are actually after. In HBO Max’s own words:

“With Sports on HBO Max, you can stream live games, matches, and events in 2026, including: MLB, NASCAR, NCAA Big 12 and Big East, NCAA College Football Playoffs, NCAA March Madness®, NHL, Roland-Garros, T100, Unrivaled, WEC, Cycling, Players Era Festival, U.S. Men’s and Women’s National Soccer Team matches, and The Match.” — HBO Max Help — sports on HBO Max

None of that is sold in Egypt by anyone, at any price. It is a United States product with United States rights behind it.

HBO Max’s own rules

What HBO Max Says About Travel and Availability

These are HBO Max’s rules, not this site’s reading of them, and they apply to every subscriber wherever they are.

“If you travel to a country or region where HBO Max is not available, you won’t be able to stream.” — HBO Max Help — where HBO Max is available

“HBO Max is currently available in these countries and regions:” — HBO Max Help — the availability list itself

Two things follow that are worth separating. A subscription does not stop existing when you cross a border — billing, plan and profiles carry on. What changes is what the app will play, and in a country HBO Max does not serve, the answer is nothing.

The availability list is also the thing to check rather than trust second-hand. It is edited as markets launch, and it has lagged: Japan is getting HBO Max on 1 October 2026 inside Prime Video and Hulu, which is the kind of change that reaches the press before it reaches the help centre.

What USip actually sells

What a Residential US IP Address Changes — and What It Does Not

One layer of the stack, described plainly, with the other layers left where they are.

It changes

  • The public network address a service reads — to an ordinary residential U.S. one, rather than a hosting range
  • Consistency: one U.S. address from sign-in through playback, rather than a different one every hour
  • The country signal that sits underneath everything else, which is the first thing any U.S. service looks at

It cannot change

  • Your HBO Max account country, your plan, or who bills you
  • Which catalogue a licence puts in front of you, or when a title premieres
  • Whether an app store or a device will install and activate the U.S. app
  • Whether HBO Max serves you. HBO Max decides that, and nothing on this page is a guarantee that it will.

USip sells the network part and nothing else. Every HBO Max rule above still applies in full.

One Egyptian practicality worth naming. Because OSN+ is bought here through carrier billing rather than a card, the account is tied to a mobile subscription in a way a card-billed service is not — which is a billing-layer fact, not a network one, and nothing about a network address changes it.

Four Checks Worth Making From Egypt

Each one is quick, and each one can save a subscription you would have had to cancel.

1

Try the 90-pound tier before anything else

It is the cheapest documented route to HBO’s catalogue in this whole set of guides, and it is a text message away. If it has what you want, nothing else is needed.

2

Know what the ad-free step costs

140 EGP against 90 EGP is the whole difference between the two tiers OSN lists for Egypt. OSN’s Egyptian pages do not list a Premium 4K price at all.

3

Separate the sport from the shows

Nothing sold in Egypt carries HBO Max’s American live sport. If that is what you want, no local subscription reaches it.

4

Test the network layer on its own, in a clean browser

Connect the residential U.S. address first, open a private desktop window, and play one ordinary on-demand title. One result, one variable.

The questions people actually type

HBO Max in Egypt — FAQ

Is HBO Max sold in Egypt?

No. HBO Max publishes the list of countries and regions it serves, and Egypt is not on it. Nothing has been announced either.

Did HBO Max leave Egypt?

No — it was never there. There has been no Egyptian HBO Max to withdraw. That matters because “bring it back” campaigns are arguing for something that never existed.

Has HBO Max launched anywhere new recently?

Yes, and it is worth knowing because it shows how these launches happen. HBO Max reached India on 15 April 2026, and reaches Japan on 1 October 2026 — in both cases not as its own app, but as a hub inside an existing service (JioHotstar; Prime Video and Hulu Japan). Neither market appeared on HBO Max’s own availability page for months afterwards, which is why this page treats that page as a starting point rather than the last word.

Is HBO Max a United States-only service?

No, and this is the error nearly every page on the subject makes. HBO Max passed 100 markets in October 2025 and its own list runs to roughly 140 countries and territories. It is simply not sold in Egypt.

Who owns HBO Max, and is that changing?

Warner Bros. Discovery. Paramount Skydance agreed to buy it, and that deal had not closed as of 22 September 2026 — Netflix, which was reported as a bidder, withdrew. Nobody has said what any of it means for licences outside the United States, so this page does not guess.

Does a residential US IP address get me into HBO Max?

This page will not tell you that, because nobody outside HBO Max can. A residential U.S. IP changes one layer — the address a service reads. Your account country, your plan, the catalogue licence and the app store all sit above it and are untouched.

Can I get OSN+ Premium in Egypt?

OSN’s Egyptian subscription pages list only the two Standard tiers — 90 EGP with ads and 140 EGP without. No Premium 4K price appears on them, so this guide does not quote one. Ask OSN or your operator rather than assuming it is sold here.

How much does OSN+ cost in Egypt?

90 EGP a month for Standard with Ads and 140 EGP for ad-free Standard, per OSN’s own Vodafone and Etisalat subscription pages. A Premium 4K price is not listed on those pages.

How do I subscribe to OSN+ in Egypt?

By text message. OSN’s own instructions are to send OSNS for the ad-supported tier or OSNM for Standard to 7785 on Vodafone or 1722 on Etisalat; Orange Egypt is also offered. It is billed with your phone bill.

Why is OSN+ cheaper in Egypt than in Dubai?

Because the ad-supported tier is sold here and is not sold in the Gulf. OSN lists twelve markets where that plan is available — Egypt among them — and the UAE and Saudi Arabia are not on that list.

Does OSN+ have HBO Max’s live sports?

No. The MLB, NHL, March Madness and U.S. Soccer coverage HBO Max sells is attached to its United States plans and is not part of the regional arrangement.

Start with one test, not every device

Confirm what your account is actually entitled to. Connect the residential U.S. address before you open HBO Max. Use a clean browser session. Then play one ordinary on-demand title your plan includes — not the newest thing, not a live game. That single result tells you more than an evening of retrying will.
