No Kenyan HBO Max has ever existed, and not one African country appears on HBO Max’s list. What Kenyan viewers got instead, in 2026, was a migration offer with a cliff edge built into it.
HBO Max has never operated in Kenya, and nothing has been announced. Nor does any Kenyan service carry the HBO catalogue. Showmax closed on 30 April 2026 and its Originals moved into DStv Stream, behind the Compact and Premium packages. Ex-subscribers were offered KES 550 a month for twelve months — after which it becomes KES 4,200, the standard Compact rate. That is roughly a sevenfold increase in month thirteen.

This is the fact worth knowing before you commit to anything in the Kenyan market, and it is not prominent in the offer.
When Showmax shut down on 30 April 2026, MultiChoice moved its Originals into a Showmax section inside DStv Stream. MultiChoice’s own Kenyan announcement sets out who can reach them:

Direct Showmax subscribers were given DStv Stream Compact free until 30 May 2026, then KES 550 a month for twelve months. The catch is what happens next. Compact’s standard price is KES 4,200 a month, so in month thirteen the bill rises by a factor of about 7.6.
Kenyan reporting made the sharper point at the time: KES 550 was not really a discount. It approximated what Showmax had already been charging. Subscribers were moved sideways on price for a year, and the increase was deferred rather than avoided.

A warning about that table, because it cost some checking. DStv’s own Kenyan product pages carry a second, lower set of figures further down — Premium at 11,000, Compact at 3,900 and so on — with nothing to distinguish them from the live prices. They are stale. The figures above are the ones on DStv’s package and comparison pages, and they are what you will actually be charged.
There is one thing this page will not tell you, because MultiChoice does not say it: whether DStv Compact Plus includes the migrated Showmax library. The announcement names Compact and Premium and skips the tier between them. If that is the tier you are on, ask before you assume.
And none of it carries HBO. The twelve Warner Bros. Discovery linear channels that survived the 2026 Canal+ arrangement are documentary, news and cartoon channels. The HBO premium library is not on Kenyan television at all.

That is the comparison that stings. HBO Max reached Timor-Leste and Tajikistan. It reached India in April 2026 at a price of around fifty rupees a month. It has not reached a single country in Africa.
It is also worth knowing that the availability list runs behind events. India was absent from it for months after launching, because that launch was a hub inside an existing service rather than a standalone app. If HBO Max ever arrives in Kenya, that is the likelier shape — but nobody has announced anything, and this page is not going to invent a timetable.
