Short answer: there is no Peacock in the UK. The Peacock area inside Sky and NOW closed on 9 January 2024, and Peacock has never been sold directly to British customers. Peacock's own help page puts it plainly — the service streams “within the United States and certain U.S. territories.”
That does not mean the shows vanished. NBCUniversal's reality catalogue is on Hayu, included with Sky Ultimate TV; the scripted originals and Universal films reach Sky and NOW under Sky's own deal. Check both before you spend anything — for a lot of readers the answer is there and costs nothing extra.
What no British service sells is NBC's live American sport: Sunday Night Football, the NBA, the Olympics, next-day NBC. For that, a residential U.S. IP presents a U.S. location to Peacock. It is not a subscription and not a payment method, and Peacock's terms say you “may not access or use the Peacock Service if you are outside of the United States.” This page quotes that rather than talking around it.

What actually happened is that the content was redistributed into Sky's own products rather than cancelled. Sunday Night Football, the exclusive Wild Card game, the NBA, the Olympics and the live local NBC channel are US Peacock rights. No British service sells them, and no amount of paying Sky more will produce them.

The US library is not a larger edition of what Sky sells — it is a different rights package built around NBC, and the parts that matter most are live.

A residential U.S. IP presents a U.S. location to Peacock. That is the whole of what it does. It is not a Peacock subscription, not a payment method, and not a promise about how Peacock will treat any particular address.
The reason the kind of address matters is that streaming services score addresses, not just countries. Sky Glass, Sky Q, Fire TV, Roku, Apple TV, Chromecast and PlayStation cannot run the connection themselves, so it has to live on the router — which moves every device in the house at once. Do this only after a browser has proved the setup works, or you will be debugging two things at the same time.

The single most common cause of a failure that then refuses to clear. Peacock writes its location decision into a cookie, so a page opened one second too early poisons every attempt afterwards until the cookie goes.

Frequently, and it is worth ruling out before you blame anything else. Managed networks in hotels, offices, universities and student halls often block the ports a tunnel needs, or force their own DNS. If it works on a phone's mobile hotspot and fails on the building's Wi-Fi, the building is the problem.
