How to Watch Starz Outside the US
The short answer is that Starz streams for the U.S. only. Its own Google Play listing puts it like this: “STARZ online services are only accessible through participating partners in the U.S. and certain U.S. territories”. On 10 October 2026 the STARZ app was in the U.S. App Store and in none of the nine other national stores we looked up, Canada’s and the UK’s among them.
Starz did once run a service of its own abroad: STARZPLAY, renamed Lionsgate+ in September 2022. From November 2022 Lionsgate and Starz announced one market exit after another, and in the UK the standalone service ended on 29 February 2024. Since 7 May 2025 Starz has been a company in its own right, separate from Lionsgate.
With a residential US IP from USip, your laptop or phone uses one ordinary address on a U.S. home internet provider, so Starz sees a U.S. household connection where it would otherwise see a foreign one. That is the only thing it changes. Starz decides which connections it accepts and can turn any of them away, USip’s included. Your subscription, the app you subscribed through and the catalogue remain Starz’s and its partners’. The U.S. address comes from USip, which assigns it, and no one gets to choose a city.

What happened to Starz outside the U.S.
Much of what is online about Starz abroad was written while its international service still existed. Here is what happened, step by step, with dates and the publications that reported them; the links are at the bottom of the page.

So Starz now streams for the U.S. and certain U.S. territories, as its app listing says, and its own service has closed in all eight countries our guides cover. Whether its series are shown there now, and by whom, differs by country; each guide says what we found and when we looked.
Three names can still mislead. The first is Lionsgate+ itself, which lives on as Lionsgate’s own channel. Lionsgate and Starz have been separate companies since 7 May 2025, and Lionsgate offers the channel as an add-on inside Amazon Prime Video, listing 18 countries for it, all eight of ours included. Its page also notes: “The content availability may vary by location.” We could not confirm which Starz series, if any, the channel carries in any of the eight countries.
The other two are found outside our eight countries. In Canada, a Starz-branded service is run by Bell Media under a content and brand licensing deal, which a Bell Media spokesperson confirmed to Playback in November 2025; it is offered as an add-on to Crave and through TV providers. In the Middle East and North Africa, a separate regional service still trades as STARZPLAY, and a trade report from October 2026 describes it that way. None of the three is the U.S. Starz this page is about.

How Americans get Starz
Where you subscribed decides where you sign in
Starz reaches viewers in the U.S. by several routes, each with its own sign-in. The route on your account decides where you sign in, wherever you are, so work it out first.

The Amazon route is the easiest to get wrong. Someone who added Starz to Prime Video and then opens the STARZ app finds that the Amazon sign-in does not work there, at home or abroad. That is how the two routes are built, not a fault in the connection. Starz’s help page on Amazon sets them side by side: the Starz channel inside Prime Video, and the STARZ app on Amazon’s Fire TV and Kindle devices.
Starz’s Google Play listing covers the other cases. People who have Starz with their TV package can sign in with that provider, and anyone else can create an account inside the app. The same listing mentions downloads for watching offline.

What Starz sees from abroad
Abroad, with and without a residential US IP
Starz, like any website, reads the internet address your traffic arrives from. Abroad, that address belongs to a provider in the country you are in, which is outside the area Starz’s own listing describes. A residential US IP puts a U.S. address in its place. Nothing else about Starz moves.
What it changes
- The address Starz reads: a single everyday address from a U.S. home internet provider, not a block of server addresses
- What an address checker reports for IPv4 after you connect: the United States
- On laptops and phones, it runs through the OpenVPN Connect app and a USip profile
- On televisions, streaming sticks and consoles, it runs through Smart DNS, tied to your home’s public IP address
The connection side, and nothing past it.
What it leaves alone
- Whether Starz lets the connection in: it may refuse any, USip’s as well
- Which U.S. city the address belongs to: USip assigns it, and you do not pick a city or a state
- Your Starz subscription, the partner you subscribed through and the sign-in that goes with it
- What is in the Starz catalogue, and when new episodes appear
- Which country your Apple Account or Google account is set to, and the law where you are
No promise of access to Starz, or to any one series.
In plain terms: Starz may say no to any connection, a USip one among them, without explaining itself. Starz accepting yours is not something we can promise, and nothing on this page means Starz approves of USip. Nobody picks the U.S. city behind a USip address either; USip assigns it, and that is not something you can change.
That is why this page sticks to things you can see for yourself: what an address checker shows, what starz.com does in a fresh private window, and whether one episode keeps going for a minute. How Starz reaches its decisions is not something we describe here. We would only be guessing.

Four kinds of connection
How four kinds of connection look to Starz
None of these comes with a promise, since the decision is Starz’s. What differs is the address Starz sees, and how openly that address shows what it is.

Look at IPv6 as well as IPv4. Many home and mobile connections now carry two addresses, an older IPv4 one and a newer IPv6 one. If the IPv6 address still belongs to your provider abroad, Starz may see it alongside the U.S. one.

Do the first check on a computer, where you can see the address, see how Starz responds and change one thing at a time. Take the four steps in order and write down what you see.
Connect USip and read the address checker
Install OpenVPN Connect and your USip profile (see the Windows or Mac setup guide), then connect. Visit an IP address checker. The IPv4 result has to be the United States. Where the checker also gives an IPv6 address, that address must not belong to your provider at home.
Open starz.com in a fresh private window
Close every Starz tab first. Then open a new private window in your usual browser and type starz.com. A private window brings no cookies from earlier visits, so what Starz sees is this connection alone.
Sign in where you subscribed and play one episode
With a Starz subscription you already have, sign in by the route you subscribed through: starz.com for an account with Starz itself, Prime Video for the Amazon channel, Hulu for the Hulu add-on. If your Starz comes with a TV provider or YouTube, use the provider sign-in Starz offers. Play one episode for a full minute. Without a subscription, only check that starz.com opens its U.S. home page.
Read the result as it stands
An episode that keeps going for the whole minute means the connection side is in order on this laptop, today. An error, or a message about where you are, is Starz’s answer: note its exact words, reconnect USip once and make one more attempt. Should the same words appear again, send them to USip support. More attempts after that only repeat the same answer.
USip keeps a dated page of the checks it runs itself: USip’s published checks. They come from other places and other days, so they cannot replace the result on your own laptop.
Whatever you see is Starz’s answer for today. Starz is free to treat an address differently tomorrow, so one good evening says nothing certain about the next.

Starz device by device, and how far the 2021 videos still hold
USip filmed the four videos below in September 2021. Their USip connection steps still hold. The Starz screens in them date from 2021, each one shows an old sign-up, and the two phone videos change which country the App Store or Google Play is set to. Those parts are out of date: leave them out.
Windows
Windows: start in the browser
Follow the video as far as the USip connection, which works the same way today. After that, set it aside: its Starz pages are from 2021 and its sign-up part is out of date. Open starz.com in a private window instead.
If the PC also runs a work VPN or any other tunnel, switch it off or use another computer for the check. With two tunnels at once, you could not be sure which of the two addresses Starz sees.

macOS
macOS: one way out of the Mac
The USip part of the Mac video still works as shown. The Starz part does not: its screens come from 2021, and the sign-up it walks through is out of date.
If you use iCloud Private Relay, switch it off for the check so that Safari has a single route out. Then read both lines on the address checker before you open starz.com.

Android
Android: skip the Google Play step
In the Android video, the Google Play country is switched so that the STARZ app can be installed. Skip that step: it is out of date, and it is not advice we give. In Google’s own words, “To set up a new country or region, you must be in that location”. Google Play Help also says you “must wait at least 90 days” between one change and the next.
Whether the STARZ app appears in your Google Play store is something we have not checked. If it is already on the phone, switch USip on before you open it; the video’s USip steps still apply.

iPhone and iPad
iPhone and iPad: listed in one store only
On 10 October 2026 we found the STARZ app in the U.S. App Store and nowhere else among the ten stores we looked at: not in Canada, the UK, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, Sweden or Brazil. In the iPhone video, the App Store country is changed to reach the app. Leave that step out; it is out of date.
Apple’s own page explains what moving an Apple Account to a new country or region involves. The change affects the whole account and everything on it, not just one app, so read that page first. The USip part of the video is still accurate.

A television, streaming stick or games console has no way to run OpenVPN Connect, so USip reaches it through Smart DNS. You add your home’s public IP address to your USip account, then put USip’s DNS details into the device, or once into the router instead of each device. When your internet provider hands your home a new public address, add that one in USip too.
Starz names the TV platforms for its app in two help articles: Apple TV, Android TV, Roku, Samsung TV and Xbox in one, Amazon Fire TV and Kindle in the other. Your TV’s own app store may or may not carry the STARZ app; that varies by brand and by country, and we have not looked store by store.

When a new Starz episode lands in the eight guide cities
Suppose an episode reaches the STARZ app at midnight ET on a Friday, as Outlander’s final season did. This is the local time in the cities our country guides cover. Europe and the U.S. change their clocks on different dates, so the gap shifts twice in autumn and twice in spring.

Why the gap moves: the UK and the rest of Europe set their clocks back on Sunday 25 October 2026 and forward on Sunday 28 March 2027. New York changes on Sunday 1 November 2026 and Sunday 14 March 2027. Brazil does not change its clocks, so in São Paulo only the two U.S. dates matter.
One caution: some series reach the app a day later, after an evening on the Starz channel, so read the times above as the earliest a new episode is likely to appear, not as a promise.
The conversions come from Python’s zoneinfo module and the IANA time-zone database behind it, run for New York and each of the eight cities. They are clock arithmetic and nothing more; Starz sets the real release time of every episode.

When Starz says no, or nothing plays
When Starz will not play: six common causes and what to do
Make one change at a time and keep a short note of each. The six cases below each point at a different link: Starz’s reply, the address, the browser, the account or the device.
An error or a message about your location
Treat it as Starz’s reply about this connection. Copy the wording exactly, or save a screenshot. Then reconnect USip once and give it a single further try in a new private window. If the message returns, send the exact text to USip support.
U.S. on IPv4, your own provider on IPv6
When the address checker lists your home provider on the IPv6 line, Starz may be reading that address as well. USip support can tell you how to deal with IPv6 on your particular device or router; afterwards, check both lines again.
Leftovers from an earlier visit
A browser remembers earlier visits, including ones made from abroad without USip. Shut all Starz tabs, start a new private window and repeat the check from the top before touching any other setting.
The app does not match your subscription
Starz through Prime Video Channels plays in Prime Video, not in the STARZ app. Through a TV provider or YouTube, you sign in to the STARZ app with the provider option; the Hulu add-on also plays inside Hulu. Open the app that matches the route on your account.
Too many screens at once
Starz Help puts the limit plainly: “You can stream on up to 4 different devices at once.” The same page says that going past it causes an error in the app, so stop playback on another device before you try again.
Two devices on one USip plan
Each USip plan covers one connection at a time. If OpenVPN Connect is running on a phone while the laptop runs the check, disconnect the phone first, then try again.

The answers rest on Starz’s, Apple’s and Google’s own pages and on dated reports. When something is outside USip’s control, the answer says so.
Can I use Starz outside the United States?
Starz’s own answer is no. Its Google Play listing says “STARZ online services are only accessible through participating partners in the U.S. and certain U.S. territories”. The international service it once ran, STARZPLAY, renamed Lionsgate+ in 2022, has closed in all eight countries our guides cover. A residential US IP from USip lets starz.com see an ordinary U.S. consumer address instead of your foreign one, but accepting that connection is still Starz’s decision, and it can refuse any connection, USip’s included. We do not promise access.
What happened to STARZPLAY, later renamed Lionsgate+?
STARZPLAY was Starz’s own streaming service outside the U.S. and Canada. It started on Amazon’s channels in the UK and Germany in 2018 and got its own app in 2019. In September 2022 it was renamed Lionsgate+ in 35 countries. Exits followed: Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the Nordics, the Benelux and Japan announced in November 2022, Latin America by the end of 2023, the UK and Australia announced in November 2023. In the UK the standalone service ended on 29 February 2024. The name lives on: Lionsgate, separate from Starz since 7 May 2025, now uses it for its own add-on channel inside Amazon Prime Video.
Is Starz available in Canada?
Not the U.S. service. In Canada, Starz is run by Bell Media under a content and brand licensing deal, as a Bell Media spokesperson told Playback in November 2025, and Canadians get it as an add-on to Crave, through TV providers or with Amazon Prime Video. It is a separate service from the U.S. Starz this page describes. On 10 October 2026 the U.S. STARZ app was not listed in Canada’s App Store.
Is Starz still owned by Lionsgate?
No. Starz completed its separation from Lionsgate on 7 May 2025 and began trading on Nasdaq as STRZ that day. In its announcement, Starz put its subscriber base at about 20 million in the U.S. and Canada at the end of 2024. The international service Starz ran under the Lionsgate+ name has closed in the countries our guides cover. Lionsgate now uses the Lionsgate+ name for its own add-on channel inside Amazon Prime Video, which its website lists in 18 countries, all eight of ours among them.
When do new Starz episodes come out in Europe and Brazil?
Usually at midnight U.S. Eastern Time on release day, when they reach the STARZ app; some series appear the next day instead, after an evening on the Starz channel. For a Friday release at midnight ET, that is 05:00 in London, 06:00 in Berlin, Paris, Madrid, Rome, Amsterdam and Stockholm, and 01:00 in São Paulo until 24 October 2026. From 1 November 2026 to 13 March 2027 it is 05:00, 06:00 and 02:00.
How many devices can stream Starz at the same time?
Starz Help says: “You can stream on up to 4 different devices at once.” The same page warns that going beyond this causes an error in the app. A USip plan has a limit of its own, one simultaneous connection, which applies whatever Starz allows. If a second phone or laptop needs the USip connection, disconnect the first one.
Does USip include a Starz subscription?
No. USip supplies a connection, not Starz itself. What you get is one residential U.S. IP address, used on computers and phones via OpenVPN Connect and a USip profile, and on TVs and consoles via Smart DNS. The Starz subscription is a separate matter between you and Starz, or the partner you subscribed through, such as Amazon or a TV provider. Starz alone decides which connections it accepts.
Can I set the U.S. city or state that Starz sees?
No. USip assigns the U.S. address; there is no setting for the city or the state, and no list of places in the app. If something does not work, a different city would not be the answer anyway. The ten-minute check and the six fixes on this page are the place to start.
Can Starz refuse a connection through USip?
Yes, and it does not need to give a reason. Starz decides which connections it accepts, and that covers connections through a residential U.S. IP from USip. Nothing on this page means Starz approves of USip, and we do not promise that any episode will play. When Starz shows an error or a location message, keep a copy of the exact words, reconnect USip once, make one more attempt, and if the message stays, send it to USip support.
Why do USip’s Starz videos look different from Starz today?
Because they date from September 2021. Starz’s screens have changed since then, all four videos include a sign-up that no longer applies, and the two phone videos change the App Store or Google Play country, a step we do not recommend copying. The part about connecting USip is still correct. Apple and Google each publish their own rules on changing country; Google Play Help, for instance, sets a wait of at least 90 days between changes.
Can I watch Starz on my smart TV abroad?
Leave the TV until last. OpenVPN Connect does not run on televisions, sticks or consoles; for those, USip uses Smart DNS: your home’s public IP address is registered with USip, and the device, or your router, uses USip’s DNS details. Starz names Apple TV, Android TV, Roku, Samsung TV, Xbox and Amazon Fire TV among the platforms for its app, but your TV’s own app store may not offer it where you live.
Is the STARZ app in my country’s App Store?
Only if your country is the U.S., among the stores we checked. On 10 October 2026 we looked the STARZ app up in ten national App Stores: the U.S., Canada, the UK, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, Sweden and Brazil. It appeared in the U.S. store and in none of the other nine. Google Play we did not go through country by country, and a laptop browser needs no app store at all.
I added Starz through Amazon or Hulu. Which app do I open?
The one that matches where Starz sits on your account. Starz through Amazon’s Prime Video Channels plays in the Prime Video app, and Starz Help says Amazon Channels sign-ins do not work in the STARZ app. For Hulu, YouTube or a cable or satellite provider, Starz Help points to the “Log in With TV Provider” option in the STARZ app, and Hulu also shows its Starz add-on inside Hulu. An account made with Starz itself works in the STARZ app and on starz.com.
Is it legal to use a residential US IP or a VPN abroad?
It depends on where you are, and we are not lawyers. Rules on VPN software differ from one country to the next, so each of our eight country guides looks at that country’s own law and official guidance, names its sources and says plainly where our research stops. Whether Starz lets a connection in is another matter, and only Starz answers it.

Check once on a laptop, then decide
Starz is a U.S. service and says so in its own app listing. Its service abroad has closed in the countries our guides cover, so begin with what your own country shows legally; the country guides set that out. Beyond that, Starz’s answer comes from a short check of your own: a laptop, a residential US IP, a fresh private window and the Starz subscription you already have.
A minute of steady playback tells you where things stand on that device, that day. A message from Starz tells you something too: note it word for word, reconnect once, try again once and then send the wording to USip support. Either result is more reliable than a promise from any guide, and that includes this one.
USip supplies the residential U.S. IP connection only. Starz’s subscriptions, apps and catalogue belong to Starz and its partners, and so does the choice of which connections to accept, a refusal of USip’s included.
