Sling Orange: ESPN, CNN, TNT and TBS
Sling counts “30+ channels” in Orange and puts ESPN, CNN, TNT and TBS first. For a Dutch fan, this is the plan with the American ESPN and with CNN’s U.S. channel.
Short answer: there is no Dutch version of Sling TV. The page Sling shows to visitors from abroad reads: “Sling TV, a live TV streaming service, is only available in the United States.” When we searched Apple’s stores on 9 October 2026, the Sling app was not in the Dutch App Store; of the nine countries we looked at, only the U.S. listed it.
Most of the American sport Dutch fans ask about is on Dutch screens already, under a name that misleads people. ESPN in the Netherlands is a Dutch channel group built around Eredivisie football, and the ESPN pages of Ziggo and Odido also list the NFL, the NBA, MLB and the NHL. The NBA’s help centre names eight countries where League Pass is not offered, and the Netherlands is not among them. Ziggo carries CNN on channel 503.
If you want Sling’s American service anyway, make the first attempt a small one: a laptop browser, the residential U.S. IP from USip, sling.com, and one Freestream channel, or one channel in a Sling plan you already have. Sling decides whether it accepts that connection, and it may refuse any connection, USip’s included.

Start with what Dutch providers already carry. On 9 October 2026 we read the ESPN pages of Ziggo and Odido, Ziggo’s channel page for CNN and the NBA’s League Pass help centre. The table sets what they say for the 2026–27 season beside what Sling offers in the U.S.
| What you want | Where it is in the Netherlands | Compared with Sling |
|---|---|---|
| NFL | ESPN’s Dutch channels. Ziggo’s ESPN page, published in September 2026, names the NFL among ESPN’s international sports, and Ziggo’s Super Bowl page put Super Bowl LX, played in February 2026, on ESPN. DAZN offers its NFL Game Pass in more than 200 markets, Advanced Television reported on 8 September 2026; that report does not name the Netherlands, so look at DAZN’s Dutch site yourself. | Sling Select carries NFL Network, and Orange and Essentials carry the American ESPN. Local ABC, NBC and FOX stations come only “in select markets”, and the market follows the U.S. address, which USip assigns. |
| NBA | ESPN again: Ziggo and Odido both list the NBA. The league’s own League Pass “is available globally except in” eight countries, the Netherlands not among them, says the NBA’s help page updated on 7 October 2026, which adds that local viewing restrictions may apply. | Since the 2025–26 season the NBA’s U.S. national games have been on ESPN and ABC, NBC and Peacock, and Prime Video, under the 11-year deals NewscastStudio reported in July 2024; TNT’s long NBA run ended after 2024–25. On Sling, ESPN sits in Orange and Essentials; ABC and NBC count as local stations. |
| MLB | ESPN’s Dutch channels, according to both providers’ pages. Neither says how many games a week, so check ESPN’s own schedule before you rely on one. | We have not matched the 2026 U.S. baseball rights to Sling’s channels. Look up the game you want in Sling’s own guide first. |
| NHL | ESPN’s Dutch channels list the NHL too, on Ziggo’s and on Odido’s page. | Orange includes ESPN and TNT. Which hockey games they show this season is decided by the league and the networks, and we have not checked it. |
| College football and basketball | We could not confirm a Dutch home for U.S. college games. | Orange and Essentials include ESPN. We have not checked which college games it carries in 2026–27. |
| U.S. news | Ziggo lists CNN on channel 503 in its standard TV package and describes it as an international news channel with “een internationaal en Amerikaans getint perspectief”. We could not confirm a Dutch home for Fox News or CNBC. | CNN is in Sling Orange. Fox News is in Sling Blue and Sling Select. |
| Eredivisie football | This is ESPN’s main job here: Ziggo’s page says all 306 Eredivisie matches of a season are shown live, along with the Keuken Kampioen Divisie, the Vrouwen Eredivisie and the KNVB Beker. | Not on Sling. The ESPN in Sling’s plans is the U.S. network, made for American viewers. |
The shared name causes most of the muddle. When a Dutch friend says the NFL is on ESPN, they mean the Dutch channels you find on Ziggo, Odido and other providers, the same ones that show the Eredivisie. Ziggo’s page says ESPN 1 to 4 now come as standard in its TV package, with ESPN Premium as the extra tier. Sling’s ESPN is another channel altogether: the American network inside the Orange and Essentials plans.
For most U.S. sport, then, the Dutch route comes first and needs nothing from USip. Sling is worth a look only for what Dutch television leaves out, such as a U.S. network’s own studio coverage, Fox News, or a channel that is in your Sling plan and nowhere on Dutch TV. Even then, blackouts and local-market rules belong to Sling and the leagues, and no connection changes them.
Rights change every season. Each row records what a page said when we read it on 9 October 2026; ESPN’s schedule, DAZN’s offer and League Pass restrictions can move at short notice, so look again before a game that matters to you.

Older advice online tends to know only Orange and Blue. Sling’s compare page, read on 9 October 2026, shows a wider line-up. These six points come from Sling’s pages or from dated reports.
Sling counts “30+ channels” in Orange and puts ESPN, CNN, TNT and TBS first. For a Dutch fan, this is the plan with the American ESPN and with CNN’s U.S. channel.
Blue has 40+ channels by Sling’s count, led by Fox News, USA and Bravo. Orange & Blue combines the two for 50+ channels.
EchoStar announced the nationwide launch of Essentials on 9 April 2026. The compare page highlights ESPN, Disney Channel, Freeform and Grit, a narrower way to get ESPN than Orange.
Select launched in August 2025, Kiplinger reported, with streaming on as many as three devices at the same time. Its highlights are Fox News, NFL Network, FX and National Geographic.
Sling Help puts it in one line: “Sling Freestream is like the name says, FREE.” It is the advertising-supported tier Sling started on 9 February 2023, and it needs no Sling plan.
Sling launched Day, Weekend and Week passes in August 2025, and the Weekend Pass became a 3-Day Pass in December 2025 after Disney and Warner Bros. Discovery had sued. On 5 October 2026 Cord Cutters News quoted Sling’s site: “Sling Passes are no longer available”.
Two more points matter from the Netherlands. On local stations, the compare page says: “Local channels in select markets like ABC, NBC, FOX, and more.” Which market you get depends on the U.S. address Sling sees, and USip assigns that address, so you do not choose the local stations. And Sling has an owner worth knowing: “Sling TV L.L.C. is an indirect wholly-owned subsidiary of EchoStar Corporation.” The compare page also lists International packages, which add channels in other languages.

Live American sport keeps American hours. For most of the season Amsterdam is six hours ahead of New York and nine ahead of Los Angeles. For one week in late October and two weeks in March the gaps shrink to five and eight hours, because Europe and the U.S. change their clocks on different Sundays.
| U.S. start | Amsterdam, most weeks | Amsterdam, 25–31 Oct 2026 and 14–27 Mar 2027 |
|---|---|---|
| Sunday 1:00 p.m. ET (10:00 a.m. PT), the early Sunday NFL window | Sunday 19:00 | Sunday 18:00 |
| Sunday 4:25 p.m. ET (1:25 p.m. PT), the late Sunday window | Sunday 22:25 | Sunday 21:25 |
| Sunday 8:20 p.m. ET, the Sunday night game | Monday 02:20 | Monday 01:20 |
| Monday 8:15 p.m. ET, the Monday night game | Tuesday 02:15 | Tuesday 01:15 |
| A 7:30 p.m. ET weeknight game, typical for basketball and hockey | 01:30, the next day | 00:30, the next day |
At 03:00 that morning the Netherlands returns to winter time, while the U.S. keeps summer time for another week. That afternoon the early games begin at 18:00 and the late ones at 21:25, an hour sooner than usual.
American clocks go back at 2 a.m. Eastern and the six-hour gap returns. It then holds all winter: 19:00 and 22:25 for the Sunday afternoon games, 02:20 for Sunday night.
The U.S. moves to summer time on 14 March, Europe on 28 March. In those two weeks a 7:30 p.m. ET basketball or hockey game starts at 00:30 Dutch time rather than 01:30.
In most weeks the Sunday and Monday night games start after 02:00 in Amsterdam and end in the early morning. Do the ten-minute check in daylight, so any connection problem shows up hours before kick-off.
Ziggo’s page put the February 2026 kick-off at 00:30 Dutch time, in the night from Sunday to Monday. ESPN showed it here, with Dutch commentary on ESPN 1.
Whatever ESPN’s Dutch channels show live already appears in their listings in Dutch time. Only American feeds on Sling need converting, and the table above does that for you.
Times worked out on 9 October 2026 with Python’s zoneinfo module (IANA time zone data 2026c) for Europe/Amsterdam, America/New_York and America/Los_Angeles.

Every Dutch line, from fibre in Almere to 5G on a train to Leeuwarden, gives websites a public address registered in the Netherlands. Sling reads that address before anything else, and a Dutch one gets the U.S.-only message quoted at the top of this page.
| Kind of line | Main providers (ACM market-share bands) | What Sling sees |
|---|---|---|
| Home broadband: fibre, cable or DSL | KPN 35–40% and VodafoneZiggo 35–40%, Odido 10–15%, DELTA Fiber 5–10%, every other provider 0–5% (fourth quarter of 2025) | A Dutch IPv4 address, and often a Dutch IPv6 address next to it |
| Mobile data on 4G or 5G | KPN and Odido 25–30% each, still the leaders in the first quarter of 2026; VodafoneZiggo 20–25% and the virtual operators 20–25% between them (fourth quarter of 2025) | A Dutch address on the phone, and on any laptop sharing its hotspot |
| Work, campus or hotel Wi-Fi | Whoever runs that network | A Dutch address, and on some of these networks OpenVPN Connect is not let through at all |
| Public hotspots in stations and cafés | The hotspot’s operator | A Dutch address shared with strangers, the setting in which the NCSC advises a VPN |
Speed is seldom the problem. ACM counted 91.6% of Dutch households on connections of at least 100 Mbps in the first quarter of 2026, and measured by mobile data used, Odido’s share rose from 45–50% to 50–55%. What decides Sling’s answer is the kind of address it sees, not how fast the line behind it is.
IPv6 is the detail that catches people out. A Dutch home line can hand your laptop an IPv6 address as well as an IPv4 one. If the U.S. connection carries only the IPv4 traffic, websites can still see the IPv6 address from KPN, Ziggo or Odido. That is why the first step of the check reads both lines.
ACM publishes market shares as bands, not exact figures. The newest Telecommonitor we found covers the first quarter of 2026 (published 7 July 2026) and gives the mobile leaders but no broadband shares, so the broadband bands come from the edition for the fourth quarter of 2025, published 31 March 2026. We found no second-quarter 2026 edition on 9 October 2026.

An address checker can say “United States” for set-ups that have little in common. What separates them is the kind of U.S. address that reaches Sling, so compare that before anything else.
| Connection | What Sling receives | Useful for | Bear in mind |
|---|---|---|---|
| Your own Dutch line | A Dutch address from KPN, VodafoneZiggo, Odido, DELTA or a mobile network | ESPN’s Dutch channels, League Pass and every other Dutch service | Sling answers with its U.S.-only message |
| Free VPN apps | A shared server address that crowds of strangers use at once | Hardly anything you can draw a conclusion from | Sling alone decides what it does with traffic like this |
| Data-centre VPN | An address from a hosting company’s range, not from a home | Privacy on public Wi-Fi | It may look American, but such ranges are easy for a streaming service to recognise |
| USip residential U.S. IP | One ordinary consumer address on a U.S. internet provider | A check on sling.com whose outcome you can actually read | Sling can still refuse it |
In short, it supplies an address and nothing else.
None of these is a network setting, so reconnecting will not alter them.

Use a laptop, because it shows the address and the player side by side. Each step removes one possible cause, so by the fourth the result means something.
Start USip in OpenVPN Connect on your Windows PC or Mac and open an address-checking site. The IPv4 line must show the United States. If an IPv6 line appears, it must not name KPN, Ziggo, Odido, DELTA or your mobile network; if it does, your Dutch line is still talking to websites.
Open a new private window in Chrome or Safari, the two browsers on Sling’s supported-devices list, and go to sling.com. A private window brings no cookies from earlier visits on your Dutch address. Close other streaming tabs while you do this.
Start one Freestream channel. If you already have a Sling plan, sign in instead and start one channel that belongs to it. Let it run for a full minute before you judge anything.
A picture that keeps moving means Sling accepted the connection this time. A message about your location, a VPN or a proxy means it did not: write the wording down exactly, reconnect USip once and try one more time. If the same words come back, send them to USip support instead of trying again and again.
A channel that plays today is no promise for the next match. Sling sets its own rules on which connections it takes and may refuse any of them, USip’s too. USip keeps dated records on a separate page, USip’s published checks; nothing from it is quoted or summarised in this guide.

USip recorded the four videos below in September 2021. Their USip part still applies: install OpenVPN Connect, add the USip profile, connect. The Sling screens in them date from 2021, and the phone videos switch the App Store or Google Play country, which is out of date, so leave that part out.

The connection steps in the video still hold: import the USip profile into OpenVPN Connect and connect before you open a browser. Then go to sling.com in a private Chrome window. Sling’s plans and sign-up pages look different from the 2021 recording, so follow the video for USip and Sling’s current site for the rest. On an employer’s laptop with its own company VPN, use your own machine instead, because two tunnels at once make any result unreadable.
Step by step: the Windows setup guide.

Nothing in the USip half of the Mac video has changed. If iCloud Private Relay is switched on, Safari’s traffic goes through Apple’s relays rather than straight through USip, so turn it off for the check. Read the IPv6 line on the address checker as well, since Dutch home lines often supply one. Sling has redesigned the screens seen in the 2021 video.
Step by step: the Mac setup guide.

The setup of OpenVPN Connect in the Android video is still right. The video also changes the phone’s Google Play country to install the Sling app: leave that out. Google Play Help says “To set up a new country or region, you must be in that location”, and that after a change you “must wait at least 90 days”. Open sling.com in Chrome on the phone first, and stop Android from putting OpenVPN Connect to sleep to save battery in the middle of a game. We could not check Google Play country by country, so we make no claim about the Dutch store.
Step by step: the Android setup guide.

Keep the connection steps from the iPhone video and leave out the App Store part, which moves the Apple Account to the American store. Apple sets its own conditions for a country change, on the support page listed in the sources, and they affect the whole account. The Sling app was not in the Dutch App Store on 9 October 2026, so begin with sling.com in Safari.
Step by step: the iOS setup guide.
Televisions, streaming sticks and games consoles cannot run OpenVPN Connect, so USip connects them through Smart DNS. First register your home’s public IP address with USip; then enter the DNS details in the device’s network settings, or once on the router for every device behind it. If your provider gives your home a new public address, register the new one with USip.
Sling’s device list includes Roku, Amazon Fire, Apple TV, Android TV and Google TV, Chromecast, Samsung, LG, Vizio and Xbox Series X|S. The Dutch app stores of Samsung and LG are something we did not check, so prove the connection on a laptop first. The four videos are from September 2021: Sling’s screens and sign-up pages have changed since, and the store-switching parts no longer apply.

One residential U.S. IP — an ordinary consumer address on a U.S. ISP, not a server range. USip and Sling TV are separate services: the plans include the connection only — not a Sling TV subscription, an app-store region or the rights to any channel or game.
Separate services: these prices are for the USip residential U.S. IP service only. Sling TV is a separate service; a Sling TV subscription and access to any particular channel, game or event are not part of a USip plan.
App stores go by the country your Apple, Google or TV account is registered in. A U.S. address from USip does not change that, so the store question is separate from the connection question.
We looked up “Sling: Live TV, Sports & News” in Apple’s stores on 9 October 2026. Of the nine countries we checked, only the U.S. store listed it: not the Dutch one, and not those of Canada, the UK, Germany, Australia, the UAE, Ireland or Switzerland.
Apple publishes its own conditions for moving an Apple Account to another country or region. Read them before anything else: they apply to the whole account, not to one app.
We had no way to inspect the Dutch Play Store, so we make no claim about it. Google’s own rules are plain: you must be in a country to set it up, and then wait at least 90 days before another change.
In Chrome or Safari, the browsers on Sling’s supported list, no store and no account country are involved. That is why the check above starts in a laptop browser.
Samsung, LG and Vizio appear on Sling’s device list, but whether the Dutch Samsung or LG store offers the app is something we did not establish. Where a set has it, USip connects it through Smart DNS.
We do not suggest made-up addresses, borrowed U.S. ZIP codes or third-party app stores. If a store or a sign-up form asks for American details you do not have, take that as a reason to stop.

Readers ask whether tunnel software is allowed here. Below is what an official Dutch source says, what our search did not turn up, and where this guide stops.
The National Cyber Security Centre, part of the Ministry of Justice and Security, tells people on public Wi-Fi: “Maak gebruik van een VPN (Virtual Private Network).” It adds that a VPN connection is encrypted, and its travel advice is to set one up in the Netherlands before you leave.
Our search found no Dutch statute that prohibits VPN software itself. Other rules still cover what you watch, download or share, whatever the connection, and this page does not deal with them.
Treat this section as general information. If a real decision depends on it, such as an employer’s network policy or a contract you have signed, ask a qualified Dutch adviser rather than a page about television.
Dutch law is one question and Sling’s choices are another. Sling decides which connections it accepts and can refuse any of them, USip’s included. A residential U.S. IP supplies an address, never Sling’s approval.

Short answers that stand on their own, based on Sling’s pages, the ESPN pages of Ziggo and Odido, the NBA’s help centre, ACM and the NCSC, all read on 9 October 2026.
No. The page Sling shows to visitors from outside the U.S. says: “Sling TV, a live TV streaming service, is only available in the United States.” There is no Dutch version, and on 9 October 2026 the Sling app was missing from the Dutch App Store; of the nine App Store countries we checked, only the U.S. listed it. Much of the U.S. sport people want from Sling is on Dutch television already, mainly on ESPN’s Dutch channels.
Not as a Dutch service. What you can do is try the American service through a residential U.S. IP: one ordinary household address on a U.S. internet provider, supplied by USip. Sling then sees a U.S. address instead of a Dutch one, but it still decides whether to accept the connection and can refuse any, USip’s included. Start with one Freestream channel in a laptop browser and judge by what Sling shows you.
On ESPN’s Dutch channels. Ziggo’s ESPN page, published in September 2026, and Odido’s ESPN page both list the NFL among ESPN’s international sports, and Ziggo’s Super Bowl page put Super Bowl LX, in February 2026, on ESPN. DAZN offers NFL Game Pass in more than 200 markets, Advanced Television reported on 8 September 2026, without naming the Netherlands. Rights change, so check ESPN’s schedule and DAZN’s Dutch site before game day.
ESPN’s Dutch channels list the NBA, according to the ESPN pages of Ziggo and Odido read on 9 October 2026. The NBA’s League Pass is a second route: its help page, updated on 7 October 2026, says League Pass “is available globally except in” eight countries, and the Netherlands is not one of them. It also warns that local viewing restrictions may apply. On Sling in the U.S., ESPN is in the Orange and Essentials plans.
No. ESPN in the Netherlands is a Dutch channel group: Ziggo’s page says it shows all 306 Eredivisie matches of a season live, along with the Keuken Kampioen Divisie, the Vrouwen Eredivisie and the KNVB Beker, and it also lists the NFL, the NBA, MLB and the NHL. Sling’s ESPN is the American network in the Orange and Essentials plans, made for viewers in the U.S. The two share a name, not a line-up.
Freestream is part of Sling’s U.S. service, so Sling’s line applies: it is only available in the United States. Sling Help describes the tier briefly: “Sling Freestream is like the name says, FREE.” It started on 9 February 2023 and carries advertising. Because it needs no Sling plan, it makes the cleanest first check: if a Freestream channel keeps playing with a residential U.S. IP, Sling accepted the address that time; if not, Sling shows a message.
Sling’s compare page, read on 9 October 2026, lists ESPN in Sling Orange, next to CNN, TNT and TBS, and in Sling Essentials, which EchoStar launched nationwide on 9 April 2026 with Disney Channel, Freeform and Grit. Orange & Blue includes everything in Orange, and the combined Essentials and Select plan includes Essentials. Blue and Select are built around Fox News instead, and Select adds NFL Network.
No. A USip plan covers the connection: one residential U.S. IP address on an American consumer internet provider, set up with OpenVPN Connect on computers and phones or with Smart DNS on a television. Sling is a separate company. Whether you hold a Sling plan, which channels it includes and whether a game is blacked out are matters between you and Sling, and Sling can turn down USip’s connection like any other.
Leave the television until a laptop has shown that Sling accepts the connection. TVs, sticks and consoles cannot run OpenVPN Connect, so USip uses Smart DNS: register your home’s public IP address with USip, then enter the DNS details on the device or once on the router. Sling’s device list names Samsung, LG, Roku, Amazon Fire and Apple TV among others, but the Dutch app stores of Samsung and LG are something we did not check.
Our search found no Dutch law against VPN software itself, and the government’s own security centre recommends one: the NCSC tells people on public Wi-Fi “Maak gebruik van een VPN”, use a VPN. Other rules still govern what you watch, download or share over any connection. We are not lawyers and this is not legal advice; if something real depends on the answer, ask a qualified Dutch adviser.
In most weeks the Sunday 1:00 p.m. ET games start at 19:00 in Amsterdam and the 4:25 p.m. ET games at 22:25. The Sunday night game at 8:20 p.m. ET begins at 02:20 on Monday, and the Monday night game at 8:15 p.m. ET at 02:15 on Tuesday. From 25 to 31 October 2026, when only Dutch clocks have gone back, everything starts an hour earlier.
No, not when we looked on 9 October 2026. The app, “Sling: Live TV, Sports & News”, appeared in the American App Store only, out of the nine countries we searched. We had no way to check Google Play country by country, so we say nothing about it. Store access depends on your account’s country, and Apple and Google publish their own rules for changing that; sling.com in a browser avoids the question.
That depends on the U.S. address, and USip assigns it: you do not choose a city, a state or a server. Sling’s compare page says: “Local channels in select markets like ABC, NBC, FOX, and more.” Which market applies follows the address Sling sees, so you cannot select your local ABC, NBC or FOX station through USip. Blackouts and local-market rules for games are set by Sling and the leagues, not by your connection.

The hub covers Sling for every country at once. For a Dutch reader, Germany and Switzerland share the Amsterdam clock, Ireland and the UK sit an hour behind it, and Toronto in Canada runs on U.S. Eastern time.
The main pages behind this guide, each read on 9 October 2026. Dutch-language pages are marked.
For most U.S. sport, begin with what is already on Dutch screens. ESPN’s Dutch channels list the NFL, the NBA, MLB and the NHL, and the NBA does not exclude the Netherlands from League Pass. None of that needs a U.S. address.
If you want Sling itself, for the American ESPN, Fox News or a channel in your own Sling plan, give it ten minutes on one laptop: connect USip, read both address lines, open sling.com in a private window and start one channel. If a message about your location, a VPN or a proxy appears, write it down, try once more, then send the wording to USip support.
USip supplies the residential U.S. IP connection only. Sling accounts, plans, channels and blackouts are Sling’s, and Sling can refuse any connection, USip’s included.
