Separate from Lionsgate
Starz completed its separation from Lionsgate on 7 May 2025 and trades on Nasdaq as STRZ. It reported about 20 million subscribers in the U.S. and Canada at the end of 2024.
Short answer: not as a French service. Starz’s own Google Play listing says: “STARZ online services are only accessible through participating partners in the U.S. and certain U.S. territories”. The STARZ app was not in the French App Store when we looked on 10 October 2026, and Starz’s own service here — STARZPLAY, renamed Lionsgate+ in 2022 — closed on Friday 31 March 2023. A residential U.S. IP shows Starz a U.S. address instead of your French one. Starz still makes its own decision about each connection, and USip’s can be refused.
Much of what people in France look for on Starz is already on French services, according to dated French reports. Netflix has every season of Outlander and added the final one week by week from Saturday 7 March 2026. HBO Max has the prequel, Outlander: Blood of My Blood, with a new season 2 episode every Saturday until 21 November 2026. Ciné+ OCS, part of the Canal+ group, picked up Spartacus: House of Ashur from 6 December 2025. We could not confirm where the Power series, P-Valley and BMF are shown in France today, though Netflix is due to add the four Power series outside the U.S. and Canada from November 2026.
If it is Starz itself you want — the U.S. service, with a Starz account you already have — begin with a ten-minute check on a laptop. Switch on the USip connection, load starz.com privately in your browser and give one episode a full minute. Either it plays, or you get a message whose exact wording tells USip support what to look at.

When Lionsgate+ left France in 2023, nobody knew where its series would land. Three years on, several of the best-known Starz titles have French homes again, each with a different service. The table shows what dated French reports say, as we read them on 10 October 2026, next to what Starz offers in the U.S.
| Series | Where it is in France (reports read 10 October 2026) | Compared with Starz in the U.S. |
|---|---|---|
| Outlander, seasons 1 to 8 | Netflix. In France the whole series is on Netflix (Ariase, 7 March 2026). The eighth and final season arrived one episode a week, on Saturdays from 7 March to 16 May 2026 (Dexerto, updated 18 May 2026). | Starz began the final season on Friday 6 March 2026 (TV Insider), so each French release came a day after the U.S. one. |
| Outlander: Blood of My Blood | HBO Max, where season 1 launched in August 2025. Season 2 runs on Saturdays from 19 September to 21 November 2026 (L’Éclaireur Fnac, 21 September 2026). Episodes also appear on Canal+, sometimes a little later than on HBO Max (Dexerto, updated 5 October 2026). | Season 2 premiered on Starz on Friday 18 September 2026 (BroadwayWorld). Dexerto listed episode 4 for 02:00 on Saturday 10 October in France. |
| Spartacus: House of Ashur | Ciné+ OCS, part of the Canal+ group, from 6 December 2025, and inside the Canal+ Ciné Séries bundle (AVCésar, 7 November 2025). Before that deal it had no French home. | A Starz original. TechRadar reported that it aired first on the Starz channel in the evening and reached the STARZ app the next day (2 January 2026). |
| Power, Power Book II: Ghost, Power Book III: Raising Kanan, Power Book IV: Force | We could not confirm where they are shown in France today: Amazon’s pages could not be read by our research tools, and we found no dated French report we could rely on. TheWrap reported the next step: a non-exclusive, multiyear deal with Lionsgate Television brings all four series to Netflix internationally. It names only the U.S. and Canada as left out, so France is not excluded (27 July 2026). The deal begins in November 2026, so it has not reached Netflix in France yet, and we found no French date. | Starz keeps the U.S. rights; in TheWrap’s words, “Starz will remain the home for the Power universe in America”. The original Power also joins Netflix in the U.S. from November. The coming spin-offs Power: Origins and Power: Legacy are not in the deal. |
| P-Valley | We could not confirm where it is shown in France. | A Starz original. Its third and final season, nine episodes, is due to begin on Starz with two episodes on Friday 4 December 2026 (TVLine, 10 September 2026). |
| BMF | We could not confirm. It was one of the Lionsgate+ originals named in France when the service closed in 2023 (Ozap, 31 March 2023). | A Starz original that ended in 2025 after four seasons. |
| The Serpent Queen | In May 2024 a Lionsgate+ channel reappeared inside Prime Video in France, with The Serpent Queen among its titles (Phonandroid, 15 May 2024). On 10 October 2026 Lionsgate’s own page still listed France for that channel; whether it carries The Serpent Queen, or any other Starz series, we could not confirm. | A Starz original in the U.S. |
The picture is a scattered one. Since Lionsgate+ closed, no single French service has held the Starz library: Outlander went to Netflix, its prequel to HBO Max and Spartacus to the Canal+ group, each through its own deal. For the two Outlander series, French viewers waited about a day after the U.S. release, not months.
For most people in France, those services are the plain route, with nothing to sort out about where you are. Starz itself matters for the rest: the series we could not place, an episode on the day of its U.S. release and, for Americans living in France, the Starz account they already have.
Catalogues change, sometimes in the middle of a season. Everything in this table comes from the reports named, read on 10 October 2026. If a date matters to you, confirm it on the French service’s own page first.

Starz did run its own streaming service in France, for a little over three years. This is how French media and the companies involved recorded its arrival, its change of name, its end and what came after.
| When | What happened in France | Reported by |
|---|---|---|
| November 2019 | STARZPLAY arrived in France. | Ozap, 31 March 2023 |
| Until 2023 | It was offered on its own and through partners: Canal+ (whose Canal+ Séries offer carried the whole catalogue), Amazon Channels and Molotov. | Univers Freebox, 27 January 2023; Ozap |
| 29 September 2022 | STARZPLAY was renamed Lionsgate+ in 35 countries, France included. | Ozap, 4 November 2022 |
| Early November 2022 | Lionsgate announced it would pull the service out of France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the Nordics, the Benelux and Japan. | Ozap and StreamTV Insider, 4 November 2022 |
| 27 January 2023 | The French closing date was made public: 31 March, which left subscribers about two more months. | Satellifacts and Univers Freebox, 27 January 2023 |
| Friday 31 March 2023 | Lionsgate+ stopped in France. Where its series would go was still unknown that day. | Ozap, 31 March 2023 |
| May 2024 | A Lionsgate+ channel reappeared, without any announcement, as an add-on inside Prime Video in France. | Phonandroid, 15 May 2024; Journal du Geek, 1 June 2024 |
| By 2026 | Several big Starz titles have French homes again, each with a different service: Outlander on Netflix, Blood of My Blood on HBO Max, Spartacus: House of Ashur on Ciné+ OCS. | Ariase; L’Éclaireur Fnac; AVCésar |
| 10 October 2026 | Lionsgate’s own Lionsgate+ page includes France in its list of 18 countries, with the channel offered as an add-on inside Amazon Prime Video. | Lionsgate, read 10 October 2026 |
Two details are easy to miss. First, the closure was not about France alone: Lionsgate cut seven markets at once, and France was one of them. Phonandroid later reported that subscriptions still running at the end were cancelled. Second, the channel that returned in 2024 carries the same Lionsgate+ name, but it is an add-on offered inside Amazon Prime Video, and since Starz and Lionsgate separated on 7 May 2025 it is Lionsgate’s, not Starz’s. On 10 October 2026 Lionsgate’s own page still counted France among its 18 countries, with a caution: “The content availability may vary by location.” Which Starz series, if any, it carries in France we could not confirm.
So when an old article or search result mentions STARZPLAY in France, it describes a service that was closed in 2023. Several of the Starz series it used to carry now live elsewhere, as the table above shows.

Guides written before 2023 describe a Starz with its own services abroad. Those services closed between 2023 and 2024. These are the facts from Starz’s own pages that matter to someone reading in France.
Starz completed its separation from Lionsgate on 7 May 2025 and trades on Nasdaq as STRZ. It reported about 20 million subscribers in the U.S. and Canada at the end of 2024.
The STARZ app listing on Google Play limits Starz’s online services to partners in the U.S. and certain U.S. territories. France is outside that list.
Americans can create an account with Starz itself, in the app or on the website, and watch on phones, computers and TVs.
Starz is also offered through U.S. TV providers and as an Amazon add-on. Starz’s help centre says the Amazon version plays in the Prime Video app, and those Amazon sign-ins do not work in the STARZ app.
Starz Help puts the limit simply: “You can stream on up to 4 different devices at once.” Starz also caps how many devices can be registered on an account.
The Google Play listing mentions offline viewing through downloads, and Starz’s help centre says it offers a live stream on its website.
For someone in France, the U.S.-only point is the one that counts. Starz offers its service through U.S. partners only. A residential U.S. IP alters the address Starz sees; where you live, the partner you signed up with and Starz’s verdict on the connection all stay as they were.

In the U.S., a new episode usually reaches the STARZ app at midnight Eastern Time on its release day, and sometimes the next day instead. Paris is normally six hours ahead of New York, and only five for two short stretches. We worked out the times below from the official time-zone rules.
| Release | U.S. (Eastern Time) | Paris |
|---|---|---|
| A new episode in the STARZ app, most weeks | Midnight at the start of the release day, often a Friday | 06:00 the same day |
| 25 to 31 October 2026 | Midnight, as usual | 05:00 — France is already on winter time, the U.S. is not |
| 1 November 2026 to 13 March 2027 | Midnight, as usual | 06:00 |
| 14 to 27 March 2027 | Midnight, as usual | 05:00 — the U.S. is already on summer time, France is not |
| Outlander, final season | Starz: from Friday 6 March 2026 | Netflix France: Saturdays, 7 March to 16 May 2026; the finale at 09:00 |
| Outlander: Blood of My Blood, season 2 | Starz: from Friday 18 September 2026 | HBO Max France: Saturdays until 21 November 2026; episode 4 at 02:00 on 10 October |
| P-Valley, final season | Starz: two episodes on Friday 4 December 2026 | 06:00 on Friday 4 December, if they follow the usual midnight release; no French service confirmed |
For most of the year a midnight release in New York lands at six on Friday morning in Paris — breakfast time rather than the middle of the night.
France goes back to winter time on Sunday 25 October, seven days ahead of the U.S. For that one week the same release lands at 05:00.
In spring it is the other way round: the U.S. changes on Sunday 14 March, France on Sunday 28 March. In between, releases land at 05:00 again.
Some series air first on the Starz channel in the evening and reach the app only the next day, as TechRadar noted for Spartacus: House of Ashur in January 2026.
In 2026 both Outlander series reached viewers in France on Saturdays, the day after their Friday premieres on Starz.
Outlander’s final season skipped a Saturday in France, with nothing new on 2 May 2026 (Dexerto). Check the date of the week’s episode before you plan around it.
Your internet provider hands your home or phone an address registered to a French network, and websites read that the moment you arrive. Here are the latest figures from Arcep, the French telecoms regulator, for the market as a whole.
More than eight internet subscriptions in ten in France now run on fibre, according to Arcep’s observatory for the second quarter of 2026, published on 8 October 2026.
Arcep counts 84.7 million SIMs, 37.5 million of them active on 5G networks — 44% of the total — and 91% active on 4G.
Arcep’s 2025 IPv6 barometer found 87% of residential internet customers and 70% of mobile customers IPv6-enabled. In February 2025 France ranked second in the world for IPv6 adoption, behind India.
At the end of 2024 Orange, Bouygues Telecom and Free enabled IPv6 for all their residential fibre and DSL customers, Free on its own network. At SFR it was not systematic, and left to customers.
The IPv6 figures are the ones to remember. On a French line with IPv6 switched on, part of your browser’s traffic can leave over IPv6 directly, outside a USip connection that handles only IPv4. A website reached that way sees Orange, Free, SFR or Bouygues Telecom, not a U.S. home address. With so many French lines on IPv6, the check further down asks you to read two lines in an address checker, not one.
Mobile data works the same way: every French operator gives your phone a French address, and most French mobile customers have IPv6 too. Start the USip connection on the phone first, and only then open anything from Starz.
A rough guide to how each option appears from Starz’s side of the screen. Nothing here is certain: the decision about every connection stays with Starz.
| Connection | What Starz probably sees | Where that leaves you |
|---|---|---|
| Your French line (Orange, SFR, Bouygues Telecom, Free or another provider) | A French address on a French network, and on most lines an IPv6 address as well. | By Starz’s own description its online services are for the U.S. and certain U.S. territories, so a French address falls outside them. |
| A free VPN app | Frequently a server address that crowds of users share at once. | A streaming service that limits viewing by country finds shared addresses like these easy to spot. |
| A VPN with data-centre servers | A server address in the country set in the app, from a block registered to a hosting firm. | Lookup services list such blocks as hosting rather than homes, which makes them simple for a streaming service to refuse. |
| USip residential U.S. IP | A single address from a U.S. home internet provider, which USip assigns to you. | It looks like a household in the U.S. That still does not oblige Starz to accept it. |
That is the whole product: a single address, for a single connection at a time.
When Starz says no, the no is Starz’s, and this guide will not dress it up.

When we looked the STARZ app from Starz Entertainment up in Apple’s stores on 10 October 2026, it was listed in the American store but not the French one. That is why the first step on this page uses a browser.
Each country has its own App Store. An Apple Account registered in France opens the French one, and on 10 October 2026 the STARZ app was absent from it.
Apple attaches conditions to switching an account’s country or region and publishes them on its support site. That page, not this one, is where to check them.
Google allows a new Play country only when you are actually in it, and then no further change for at least 90 days. We have not searched the French Play Store for the STARZ app.
Starz’s help centre covers Apple TV, Android TV, Roku, Samsung TV, Xbox and Amazon Fire TV. TVs set up in France use French stores, which we have not checked for the STARZ app.
A browser asks nothing of any app store. Once Starz plays on a laptop, you know the connection is fine, and any app problem becomes a separate, smaller one.
The 2021 videos change the store country. This guide does not, and we advise against made-up addresses, someone else’s U.S. postcode or app stores outside Apple and Google.
Do this a single time, on a laptop, before touching phones, TVs or app stores. The point is to answer the only question USip has any part in: will Starz take the address you show up with?
Turn on OpenVPN Connect with your USip profile, then open an IP address checker. Look at the IPv4 result first: it should show a U.S. location. If an IPv6 address is listed too, it must not belong to Orange, SFR, Bouygues Telecom, Free or another French provider. If it does, sort that out before going further; USip support can help.
Private browsing begins with no cookies or stored settings from earlier visits made on your French address. Type starz.com yourself rather than following an old bookmark.
With a Starz subscription you already have, sign in where you subscribed — starz.com for a direct Starz account, the Prime Video app for the Amazon channel — and let one episode play for a full minute. Without one, check only that starz.com opens its U.S. home page.
If the episode keeps playing, the connection side is fine for today. If Starz puts up an error or a location message, write it down as it appears, disconnect and reconnect USip one time, and try again. Still there? Send the exact text to USip support; repeating the attempt will not change it.
Dated checks by USip itself sit on another page, USip’s published checks, and this guide does not repeat or sum them up. Today’s result says nothing certain about next month: Starz may alter what it accepts whenever it chooses.

The four videos here were made by USip in September 2021. What they show about the USip connection is still correct. Everything else has aged: Starz looks different now, the phone videos change the app-store country, and each one walks through an old sign-up. Skip those parts.

Set up OpenVPN Connect, add your USip profile and switch the connection on — the video covers that well. Then run the ten-minute check in your usual browser. The Starz sign-up shown in the video is from 2021 and no longer matches starz.com, so pass over it.
Step by step: the Windows setup guide.

On a Mac the same three moves still hold — OpenVPN Connect, the USip profile, connect — and the video shows them clearly. Starz then runs in Safari or Chrome. Take the 2021 Starz screens as a rough picture only, and ignore the outdated sign-up.
Step by step: the Mac setup guide.

Use the video for the OpenVPN Connect part only. Its Google Play country change no longer applies. In Google’s words, “To set up a new country or region, you must be in that location”, and after a switch you “must wait at least 90 days”. A laptop is the better place for the first check.
Step by step: the Android setup guide.

OpenVPN Connect, your USip profile, connect: that part of the video is fine. The App Store part is not. On 10 October 2026 the STARZ app appeared in the American store but not the French one, and the video’s switch of store country is no longer something we show. Apple’s support site sets out what it requires before an account can move country.
Step by step: the iOS setup guide.
There is no OpenVPN Connect app for televisions, sticks or consoles; for those, USip offers Smart DNS. Add your home’s public IP address to your USip account, and put USip’s DNS details into the TV or stick — or into the router, which then serves every device on your network. If the provider later gives your home a fresh public address, add the new one in the same way. Full steps are in the Smart DNS guide.
For televisions, Starz’s help centre names Apple TV, Android TV, Roku, Samsung TV and Xbox, and its app also runs on Amazon Fire TV. A set or stick bought in France opens its platform’s French store; we have not looked at whether those stores carry the STARZ app.

One residential U.S. IP — an ordinary consumer address on a U.S. ISP, not a server range. USip and Starz are separate services: the plans include the connection only — not a Starz subscription, an app-store region or the rights to any series or film.
Separate services: these prices are for the USip residential U.S. IP service only. Starz is a separate service; a Starz subscription and access to any particular series or film are not part of a USip plan.
This section is information, not legal advice; we are not lawyers. It sets out what French official sources say, and what they leave open.
We have not found a French law that bans VPN software as such. A VPN app such as OpenVPN Connect encrypts your traffic, and France’s national cybersecurity agency, ANSSI, states plainly: “L’utilisation d’un moyen de cryptologie est libre.” In other words, using an encryption tool needs no permission or formality in France. Supplying, importing or exporting such tools is a separate matter, with formalities that fall on the companies that supply or import them.
Arcom is France’s regulator for audiovisual and digital communication, and fighting online piracy is one of its jobs. Its own report for 2023, published in April 2024, describes the tools: after a court decision, Arcom has internet providers block pirate live-sport services and mirror sites, and it sends the graduated-response warnings for peer-to-peer file sharing. In 2023 it had 549 services blocked.
Arcom has since gone a step further. Génération NT reported on 3 October 2025 that, at the request of Canal+ and beIN Sports, which already held court decisions, Arcom had required the main VPN providers to block a list of about 295 pirate sports-streaming sites. Every measure in these sources concerns pirate streams and copies. None of them concerns a lawful U.S. subscription service such as Starz, and we will not stretch them further than that.
Netflix, HBO Max, Canal+ and Ciné+ OCS show their Starz series in France under their own French deals. Watching there leaves nothing to wonder about.
That call belongs to Starz, and we do not speak for it. A U.S. address on your laptop leaves your real home exactly where it is.
Laws, and the way courts and regulators apply them, can change. For a firm answer on your own case, a lawyer or a consumer association is the right place to ask.
What people in France ask most often, each answer complete in itself; checked on 10 October 2026.
Not as a French service. Starz’s Google Play listing says “STARZ online services are only accessible through participating partners in the U.S. and certain U.S. territories”, and on 10 October 2026 the STARZ app was missing from the French App Store. Starz’s own French service, STARZPLAY, later renamed Lionsgate+, closed on 31 March 2023. A residential U.S. IP changes where Starz sees you connecting from, but Starz alone rules on each connection, and it may turn USip’s down like any other.
STARZPLAY arrived in France in November 2019 and was available on its own and through Canal+, Amazon Channels and Molotov. It was renamed Lionsgate+ on 29 September 2022, and in early November 2022 Lionsgate said it would leave France. The service stopped on Friday 31 March 2023. In May 2024 a Lionsgate+ add-on channel reappeared inside Prime Video; it belongs to Lionsgate, not Starz, and Lionsgate’s own page still listed France on 10 October 2026. Which Starz series, if any, it carries we could not confirm.
On Netflix. According to Ariase (7 March 2026), the whole series is on Netflix in France. The eighth and final season followed one episode a week, on Saturdays from 7 March to 16 May 2026 (Dexerto), a day after each Starz release in the U.S. We read these reports on 10 October 2026; catalogues change, so check Netflix’s own page.
On HBO Max, where season 1 launched in August 2025. Season 2 started on Saturday 19 September 2026, the day after its Starz premiere, and adds one episode each Saturday until 21 November 2026, according to L’Éclaireur Fnac. Dexerto listed episode 4 for 02:00 on Saturday 10 October, and noted that episodes also reach Canal+, sometimes a little later.
We could not confirm where they are shown in France today. What comes next: TheWrap reported on 27 July 2026 that Power, Power Book II: Ghost, Power Book III: Raising Kanan and Power Book IV: Force are coming to Netflix internationally, under a non-exclusive, multiyear deal with Lionsgate Television. The only places the report leaves out are the U.S. and Canada, so France is not excluded. The deal begins in November 2026, so it has not reached Netflix in France yet, and we found no French date.
No. On 10 October 2026 the STARZ app from Starz Entertainment appeared in the American App Store, but the French store did not list it. Moving an Apple Account to another country comes with Apple’s own conditions, set out on its support page. Google Play was not checked country by country. That is one reason this page begins with a laptop browser, which needs no app at all.
Possibly, and only a check will tell you. On a laptop, turn the USip connection on and confirm that an address checker’s IPv6 line shows no French provider. Then load starz.com privately and start one episode from a Starz subscription you already have. If an error or a location message appears instead, copy it word for word, reconnect a single time and retry; if it stays, USip support needs that exact wording.
No — they are two unrelated companies. USip’s part is the residential U.S. IP connection alone. A Starz subscription, an app-store country and the right to watch any particular series all sit outside a USip plan. Starz decides whether to accept the connection and what its catalogue holds; USip supplies the address and helps you get it working.
Starz’s help centre says: “You can stream on up to 4 different devices at once.” A stream beyond that limit causes an error in the app, and Starz also limits how many devices can be registered on one account, asking you to remove one when you reach the cap. USip is separate: a USip plan covers one connection at a time.
Perhaps, but two things have to work. First the connection: OpenVPN Connect is not available on a television, so USip relies on Smart DNS. Your home’s public IP address goes on record with USip, and USip’s DNS details go into the TV, stick or router. Then the app: a set bought in France opens a French app store, and we have not looked at whether it carries the STARZ app. A laptop browser is the easier start.
In the U.S., a new episode usually reaches the STARZ app at midnight Eastern Time on its release day, sometimes the next day. Midnight on a Friday in New York is 06:00 on Friday in Paris for most of the year. It is 05:00 in the week of 25 to 31 October 2026, and again between 14 and 27 March 2027, because France and the U.S. switch between summer and winter time on different Sundays.
We have not found a French law that bans VPN software as such. France’s cybersecurity agency, ANSSI, says using an encryption tool is unrestricted, and a VPN app is one. The Arcom measures we read about target lists of pirate sites. This is general information from official sources, not legal advice. Whether a streaming service accepts your connection is a different matter, and only that service decides it.
Not as far as the sources we read go. Arcom, France’s audiovisual and digital regulator, acts against pirate services: after court decisions it has pirate live-sport streams and mirror sites blocked, and in 2025 it required the main VPN providers to block about 295 pirate sports sites (Génération NT, 3 October 2025). Those measures target piracy. Starz is a lawful U.S. subscription service, and nothing we found applies them to it.

Starz from anywhere outside the U.S. is covered on the hub. Each country guide below does for its own market what this page does for France — local rights, local time, local rules — researched separately.
Starz’s, Google’s, Apple’s and the French authorities’ own pages come first, then the press; all were read on 10 October 2026, and a date in a label is the publication date. Other reports are named, with their dates, where the text uses them.
For most Starz fans in France the answer is close to home: Netflix for Outlander, HBO Max for Blood of My Blood and Ciné+ OCS for Spartacus: House of Ashur, with the two Outlander series about a day behind the U.S. Start there.
Starz itself is for what those services do not show, or for Americans in France with a Starz account from home. If that describes you, do the ten-minute check on a laptop first. Should Starz show a message, copy its wording exactly: USip support can do far more with those words than with any description of them.
USip supplies the residential U.S. IP connection only. Starz’s catalogue and its decisions about connections are Starz’s own, and the French rights belong to the French services that hold them.
