USip VPN · Speed policy

No speed cap. Realistic speed expectations.

USip VPN does not impose a speed cap or data allowance on your VPN connection. The speed you actually receive still depends on the networks between your device and the US.

What the policy means

No imposed speed cap

USip does not deliberately limit your connection to a fixed Mbps rate.

No data allowance

There is no monthly VPN data cap. Use remains subject to our Terms of Service.

No guaranteed speed

A VPN connection may be slower than your connection without the VPN. A particular speed or buffer-free stream is not guaranteed.

What affects performance?

Your home connection, Wi-Fi signal, internet provider, distance from the US, network congestion and the destination service can all affect performance. The US home broadband connection carrying your VPN traffic also has its own capacity.

USip provides a residential US IP address through home broadband. It does not make every part of the route as fast as your local connection.

If a connection feels slow

  1. Check that your internet works normally with the VPN disconnected.
  2. Pause large downloads and check your Wi-Fi signal. Try Ethernet if available.
  3. Reconnect using OpenVPN Connect and your USip profile, then compare the result.
  4. If the problem continues, contact Support with your country, device and the time it happened.

A speed test and successful streaming playback measure different things. A streaming service may also depend on your account, subscription, app and device. See the dated streaming test results for recorded checks.

Your questions, answered

Can USip VPN slow down my internet?

Yes. A VPN changes the route your traffic takes, and the route to the US can have different capacity or congestion from your normal connection. No imposed cap does not mean identical speeds with and without the VPN.

Do you guarantee a minimum Mbps or 4K playback?

No particular speed or playback quality is guaranteed. Use the trial to test the connection with your own device, network and service.

How should I set up a TV?

Follow the Smart DNS guide. TV setup differs from OpenVPN Connect on a computer or phone.
