Hulu from Greece, Without the Guesswork

Short answer: two things carry the Hulu name in Greece and only one of them is American. The local one is a hub inside Disney+, renamed from Star on 8 October 2025, licensed for Greece. Hulu’s own help pages say a subscription “is intended for use by members of a single U.S. household,” that “The videos on Hulu are only available in the U.S.,” and that Hulu “doesn’t work with anonymizers or proxy services.”

Greece is another seasonal market, and the version of this question asked in July by a visitor has a different answer from the one asked in January by a resident.

From Athens, Thessaloniki, Patras, Heraklion or Larissa, hulu.com does not load Hulu at all: every hulu.com address hands you to Disney+, and the Hulu app answers with its own location error — P-EDU101, “You appear to be using an anonymous proxy tool.” A residential U.S. IP presents the U.S. location Hulu’s rules are written for — for a U.S. subscriber travelling in Greece, or anyone whose U.S. plan already includes what they want to watch.

That is the whole of what it does. No Hulu subscription is included, no U.S. card is issued, no account is opened, no billing country changes and no Live TV home network is set. Hulu’s rules still apply in full: it says it “cannot support the use of VPNs or proxies,” and it can block-list any address it decides is one.

Start with what is actually sold in Greece

Is Hulu available in Greece?

The word Hulu is doing two jobs in Greece. One of them is the American subscription this page is about: hulu.com, the Hulu app and Hulu + Live TV, sold in the United States and nowhere else. Hulu says so itself — the subscription “is intended for use by members of a single U.S. household,” sign-up needs “a U.S.-issued form of payment,” and “The videos on Hulu are only available in the U.S.”

Hulu inside Disney+ in Greece is something else. Disney+ launched in Greece on 14 June 2022. It launched with the Star hub already inside it; on 8 October 2025 Disney renamed that hub Hulu. Disney calls Hulu its “global General Entertainment brand on Disney+”; the hub carries the general-entertainment titles Disney licenses for Greece — some of them Hulu originals — under a Disney+ subscription. It is not the U.S. Hulu library, it has no Hulu app of its own in Greece, and it has no Hulu + Live TV.

From Greece, hulu.com does not show a Hulu page: every address hands you to Disney+. The Hulu app answers with its own error instead — P-EDU101, “You appear to be using an anonymous proxy tool.” The public IP is the first check, but not the only one: Hulu also reads browser location permission, mobile GPS, cookies from an earlier session, the app-store country and the ZIP code on the account — and for Hulu + Live TV, the registered home network. The test below isolates one layer at a time.

Hulu has no travel mode. HBO Max lets a U.S. account travel to the countries where it is sold; Hulu’s help centre lists “You are accessing Hulu from outside the United States” as the first cause of its proxy error.

Two Disney+ apps now show a Hulu name: the one in Greece and the one in the United States. What sits behind the name is different in each, and no connection converts one into the other.

Disney+ in Greece: the Hulu hub

The former Star hub, renamed

Disney+ launched in Greece on 14 June 2022. It launched with the Star hub already inside it; on 8 October 2025 Disney renamed that hub Hulu. Disney’s release calls Hulu “the global General Entertainment brand on Disney+”; the hub holds the general-entertainment titles Disney licenses for Greece — the same catalogue the Star hub held the day before. Some Hulu originals are in it, under the rights Disney holds for Greece; the U.S. Hulu library as a whole is not, because Hulu’s rights are U.S.-only whichever app serves them.

The other Hulu tile — the American one

In the United States, Disney+ shows a Hulu tile that is the U.S. Hulu library. Hulu’s condition is narrow: it is for “Eligible subscribers with a Hulu or Hulu Premium plan, bundle plan, or Hulu + Live TV plan (billed directly by Hulu).” The app is not going anywhere either — Disney says there are “no current plans to sunset the Hulu app.”

Where the connection fits in all this

One check, out of several

The address is what hulu.com, the Hulu app and the U.S. Hulu tile read before anything else. It is not what decides which Disney+ catalogue you see: that follows the account’s own country and billing, which belong to Disney. A disney+ subscription in greece stays exactly what it was.

EU portability is about Disney+, not Hulu. The EU’s portability rules let a subscription bought in one member state be used temporarily in another — they cover Disney+ in Greece. They say nothing about U.S. Hulu, which is not sold in the EU at all.

The practical rule. Prove the Hulu app or hulu.com in a private desktop browser first. Then, if your U.S. plan is billed by Hulu, sign in to Disney+ with the same MyDisney email and open the Hulu tile — a second door to the same U.S.-only library, under the same location check.

Confirm what your account is entitled to

Before touching the network: which plan (Hulu With Ads, Hulu Premium, a Disney+ bundle, or Hulu + Live TV), how it is billed (Hulu direct, Disney-billed, or an app store) and — for Live TV — whether the home network is set. Hulu requires “a U.S.-issued form of payment.” A residential IP cannot fix an entitlement you don’t have.

Use a clean browser session

A private window, on a computer, with no old Hulu cookies — and none from Disney+ in Greece or a local streaming app either, which carry a non-U.S. location. One Hulu-specific caveat: Hulu’s help page lists private/incognito mode among the things its system can mistake for an anonymous proxy — if a private window answers P-EDU101, repeat once in a normal window after clearing hulu.com cookies and revoking Hulu’s browser location permission.

Bring the connection up first, then Hulu

The order is the whole trick. Connect, check on a third-party site that your public address reads United States, and only then load anything belonging to Hulu. Hulu can re-check after sign-in, so the address has to hold for the whole session — and if your ISP in Greece hands out IPv6, disable it for the test so nothing leaks around the route.

Diagnosing a Hulu failure from Greece

The order matters more than the individual checks: doing them out of sequence produces results that contradict each other.

Is the address right at all?

Check the public address on a third-party site before Hulu is opened, not after. Until the U.S. route is up, a line in Greece reports Greece, and a single IPv6 request outside the tunnel is enough to give the game away. Nothing below this line is worth checking until this one passes.

Browser state and location signals

Private window first; if it answers P-EDU101, a normal window with hulu.com cookies cleared — Hulu says private mode can be mistaken for a proxy. Then browser location permission, GPS on a phone, a Wi-Fi HTTP proxy setting or a configuration profile on iOS: Hulu reads these after the IP.

Does the account actually cover it?

A working login is not the same as an entitlement. Check the plan, who bills it, whether a bundle was activated, the ZIP on file and the “U.S.-issued form of payment” Hulu requires. The wrong billing route produces failures that look exactly like a location block.

Plain playback, then the missing title

A standard on-demand title in your plan, for a minute. If it plays, the layers above are fine — and if one thing still doesn’t, that is a licence or a plan entitlement, not the network.

Apps and televisions come last for a reason

They hide everything: the address, the cookies, the real error. The Hulu app is not offered to a Greek Apple Account or Google Play account at all, so reinstalling without changing the store country reproduces the same outcome exactly. Prove the account in a desktop browser, then move.

Codes P-EDU101 and BYA-403-011. Hulu’s own causes: “You are accessing Hulu from outside the United States,” “You are using a VPN or VPS,” an unsupported third-party app, “a browser in private mode” or an anonymising program, and an IP address “block listed because of previous anonymous proxy use.” On iPhone and iPad the same verdict is Error 16 or “Your account is not valid in this region.”

Hulu’s explanation, in full: “We need to be able to determine which connections are originating domestically, and therefore we cannot support the use of VPNs or proxies.” Read it twice: Hulu is saying, in its own voice, that it verifies location and that proxy and VPN ranges are the thing it looks for.

Why a residential IP is a different proposition — and still no guarantee. A data-centre VPN address sits in a hosting-company range — the “VPN or VPS” Hulu’s help page names — and those ranges are what its check is built to catch. A residential U.S. IP is an ordinary consumer address on a U.S. ISP, so it is not caught by the check that catches hosting ranges. Hulu still says it “cannot support the use of VPNs or proxies,” block-lists addresses and decides what its check accepts.

Desktop first, then every other screen

Hulu setup on Windows, macOS and TV devices from Greece

The desktop is the first test: no mobile GPS, no TV app store, no router configuration. Once Hulu plays in a private browser with the U.S. connection from Greece, move the same connection to a phone, a Smart TV, a streaming stick or a router.

Two things people get wrong. Hulu publishes no travel allowance at all: its rules are written for the United States, and its location error names travel as a cause. Only from a U.S. location, with a U.S. Hulu account whose plan includes what you want to watch. U.S. Hulu is not sold in Greece; Hulu’s help pages say “The videos on Hulu are only available in the U.S.” and that a subscription “is intended for use by members of a single U.S. household.” A residential U.S. IP presents that location; it is not a subscription, and Hulu can decline any address.

Can I subscribe to Hulu in Greece?

Treat it as information rather than a fault. Disconnect, reconnect, confirm the public address on a third-party checker, clear hulu.com cookies and try once in a fresh private window. What is the anonymous proxy error?

Hulu’s way of saying it did not accept where the request came from: “Error playing this video. You appear to be using an anonymous proxy tool,” codes P-EDU101 and BYA-403-011, or Error 16 on iOS. Hulu publishes the causes itself — being outside the United States, a VPN or VPS, an unsupported app, private browsing, or an address “block listed because of previous anonymous proxy use.”

How much is Hulu in 2026?

Changing a store country is an Apple or Google account decision with its own consequences — store credit, subscriptions, family sharing — and a public IP does not change it. Test in a computer browser first; it needs no app at all.

Is it legal to use a VPN for Hulu in Greece?

Using a VPN is legal in Greece.
