What carries the Hulu name in Czechia, and what the American service actually requires

Hulu from Czechia, Without the Guesswork

Short answer: there is no Hulu subscription to buy in Czechia. What you can see in Czechia is a Hulu-branded hub inside Disney+, holding the titles Disney licenses for Czechia — the same shelf that was called Star until 8 October 2025. Hulu’s own help pages say a subscription “is intended for use by members of a single U.S. household,” that “The videos on Hulu are only available in the U.S.,” and that Hulu “doesn’t work with anonymizers or proxy services.”

Czechia is a market where the Hulu name arrived with no history at all: no Star+, no Hotstar, nothing before June 2022.

The symptom is consistent from Prague, Brno, Ostrava, Plzeň or Olomouc: hulu.com redirects to Disney+ before any password is typed, and the app returns P-EDU101, “You appear to be using an anonymous proxy tool.” Neither is a fault on your device. Both are location decisions, which is the one layer a residential U.S. address addresses.

One layer, no more. It does not sell you Hulu, does not supply the “U.S.-issued form of payment” sign-up requires, does not open an account and does not override Hulu’s own rules, which say plainly that Hulu “cannot support the use of VPNs or proxies.”

Before anything else: which Hulu are we talking about

Two Hulus, one word: what is sold in Czechia

Two different things carry the Hulu name in Czechia, and only one of them is the service this page is about. U.S. Hulu — hulu.com, the Hulu app, Hulu + Live TV — is sold in the United States only. Hulu’s help centre says a subscription “is intended for use by members of a single U.S. household,” that you “will need a U.S.-issued form of payment when you sign up,” and that “The videos on Hulu are only available in the U.S.” The sign-up requirements begin with “To be located within the U.S.”

Hulu inside Disney+ in Czechia is something else. Disney+ launched in Czechia on 14 June 2022. It launched with the Star hub already inside it; on 8 October 2025 Disney renamed that hub Hulu. Disney calls Hulu its “global General Entertainment brand on Disney+”; the hub carries the general-entertainment titles Disney licenses for Czechia — some of them Hulu originals — under a Disney+ subscription. It is not the U.S. Hulu library, it has no Hulu app of its own in Czechia, and it has no Hulu + Live TV.

From Czechia the behaviour is consistent. hulu.com never renders a Hulu page — every address is handed to Disney+ — and the app returns P-EDU101, “You appear to be using an anonymous proxy tool.” The address is the first thing checked and not the last: browser location permission, phone GPS, old cookies, the app-store country and the account’s ZIP code all feed the same decision, and Live TV adds the registered home network on top. The test further down separates them.

Hulu has no travel mode. HBO Max lets a U.S. account travel to the countries where it is sold; Hulu’s help centre lists “You are accessing Hulu from outside the United States” as the first cause of its proxy error.

One word, two catalogues

The Hulu hub in Czechia and the Hulu tile in U.S. Disney+ — not the same thing

Two Disney+ apps now show a Hulu name: the one in Czechia and the one in the United States. What sits behind the name is different in each, and no connection converts one into the other.

The other Hulu tile — the American one

Same library, second entrance

In the United States, Disney+ shows a Hulu tile that is the U.S. Hulu library. Hulu’s condition is narrow: it is for “Eligible subscribers with a Hulu or Hulu Premium plan, bundle plan, or Hulu + Live TV plan (billed directly by Hulu).” The app is not going anywhere either — Disney says there are “no current plans to sunset the Hulu app.”

Disney+ in Czechia: the Hulu hub

The former Star hub, renamed

Disney+ launched in Czechia on 14 June 2022. It launched with the Star hub already inside it; on 8 October 2025 Disney renamed that hub Hulu. Disney’s release calls Hulu “the global General Entertainment brand on Disney+”; the hub holds the general-entertainment titles Disney licenses for Czechia — the same catalogue the Star hub held the day before. Some Hulu originals are in it, under the rights Disney holds for Czechia; the U.S. Hulu library as a whole is not, because Hulu’s rights are U.S.-only whichever app serves them.

Where the connection fits in all this

One check, out of several

The address is what hulu.com, the Hulu app and the U.S. Hulu tile read before anything else. It is not what decides which Disney+ catalogue you see: that follows the account’s own country and billing, which belong to Disney. A disney+ subscription in czechia stays exactly what it was.

EU portability is about Disney+, not Hulu. The EU’s portability rules let a subscription bought in one member state be used temporarily in another — they cover Disney+ in Czechia. They say nothing about U.S. Hulu, which is not sold in the EU at all.

The practical rule. Prove the Hulu app or hulu.com in a private desktop browser first. Then, if your U.S. plan is billed by Hulu, sign in to Disney+ with the same MyDisney email and open the Hulu tile — a second door to the same U.S.-only library, under the same location check.

A controlled test, not a switch

How to test Hulu from Czechia, step by step

The goal is one clean result you can interpret, so that if something fails you know which layer failed — the network, the browser, the account or the rights.

1

Know what you are actually entitled to

Start with the account, not the connection. Which plan is it, who bills it — Hulu directly, Disney, or an app store — and does that plan include the thing you want to watch? Hulu’s sign-up rules require “a U.S.-issued form of payment,” and no address changes an entitlement you never had.

2

Connect before you open Hulu

Launch USip, select the U.S. residential connection, and confirm the public country reads United States before any Hulu page, app or sign-in screen loads. Keep the same address through sign-in and playback — Hulu can check location again after sign-in. On a home line in Czechia that means every request, so if your ISP gives you IPv6, switch it off for the test.

3

Start from a browser with no memory

Use a computer and a private window. Old hulu.com cookies carry an old location decision, and so do cookies from Disney+ in Czechia or a local streaming app. There is one Hulu-specific wrinkle worth knowing: Hulu names private mode itself as something its check can mistake for a proxy, so if the private window returns P-EDU101, try once more in a normal window with hulu.com cookies cleared and the browser’s location permission revoked.

4

Play a plain on-demand title before anything special

A standard episode included in your plan, for a full minute. If it plays, the network, browser and basic account path are working. Only then try the Hulu tile inside U.S. Disney+, Live TV or a TV app — each has its own reason to fail that has nothing to do with the network.

5

Record what you actually saw

The wording is the diagnostic. A Disney+ redirect, “P-EDU101,” “Error 16,” or an ordinary playback failure all mean different things and have different fixes. A note saying “it didn’t work” cannot be acted on; one line of the real message usually can.

If the plain title plays and the special thing doesn’t, the answer is in the account or the rights — plan, billing route, home network, licence — not in the connection. Changing servers will not change a licence.

Where the name came from

Why there is a Hulu hub in Czechia and no Hulu subscription

The catalogue people compare against U.S. Hulu has a history, and it is not an American one.

WhenWhat happenedWhat you got

Star arrivesThe hub arrived after the service did, in February 2021General-entertainment titles licensed locally, inside the same subscription

The thing to take from the table. No row on it is a Hulu launch. Disney has never sold a Hulu subscription outside the United States, and renaming a hub is not the same as opening a market.

What Hulu shows a visitor from Czechia, in its own words

“P-EDU101,” “Error 16” and a Disney+ page instead of Hulu — what you see from Czechia

Hulu is unusual: it documents its location error, names the causes, and explains the reason. Three things it does from Czechia, and what each one tells you.

The website

A Disney+ page instead of Hulu

hulu.com, loaded from Czechia, never shows a Hulu page. Every address — the home page, the plans, the Subscriber Agreement — is handed to disneyplus.com. It is a location verdict, not a login problem, and it happens before any password is typed.

The app or player

“Error playing this video. You appear to be using an anonymous proxy tool”

Codes P-EDU101 and BYA-403-011. Hulu’s own causes: “You are accessing Hulu from outside the United States,” “You are using a VPN or VPS,” an unsupported third-party app, “a browser in private mode” or an anonymising program, and an IP address “block listed because of previous anonymous proxy use.” On iPhone and iPad the same verdict is Error 16 or “Your account is not valid in this region.”

The rule behind both

“Hulu’s content rights are restricted to the United States”

Hulu’s explanation, in full: “We need to be able to determine which connections are originating domestically, and therefore we cannot support the use of VPNs or proxies.” Read it twice: Hulu is saying, in its own voice, that it verifies location and that proxy and VPN ranges are the thing it looks for.

Why a residential IP is a different proposition — and still no guarantee. A data-centre VPN address sits in a hosting-company range — the “VPN or VPS” Hulu’s help page names — and those ranges are what its check is built to catch. A residential U.S. IP is an ordinary consumer address on a U.S. ISP, so it is not caught by the check that catches hosting ranges. Hulu still says it “cannot support the use of VPNs or proxies,” block-lists addresses and decides what its check accepts.

In order of how much each device hides

Getting Hulu working on Android, iPhone and iPad, Windows, macOS from Czechia

Start where you can see what happened. A computer browser shows you the public IP, the cookies and the exact error; a television shows you none of that. Prove it there first, then carry the same connection to whatever you actually watch on in Czechia.

The OpenVPN setup remains supported: download the current connection profile from your USip account, import it into the recommended client for the device and connect before opening Hulu. For Smart TV, Apple TV, Fire TV and Roku, use a router that carries the U.S. connection when the device cannot run the app itself. Expect two extra obstacles on a television. One is the store: a Czech Apple Account or Google Play account is not offered the Hulu app at all. The other is Live TV, whose home network cannot be set “while connected to a mobile-wireless network, including mobile hotspots, or shared Wi-Fi networks.”

Android
Android

How to Watch Hulu on Android from Czechia

Two independent gates on Android, and only one of them is the address. The store decides whether the Hulu app is offered at all, and it is not offered to Google Play account regardless of how the connection is set. Google’s own rules allow one country change every 90 days and do not carry the balance across. Bring the connection up before opening either app.

Step by step: the Android setup guide.

iPhone and iPad
iPhone and iPad

How to Watch Hulu on iPhone and iPad from Czechia

On iOS the store follows the Apple Account’s country and ignores the address entirely. Changing that country has consequences worth reading first — subscriptions, credit, rentals, family sharing — and Apple publishes what has to be settled before it will let you. Never with invented details. With the app installed, turn Location Services off for Hulu for the first test and check the public address in Safari.

Step by step: the iOS setup guide.

Windows
Windows

Windows: the setup and the one thing that catches people

Windows is the cleanest place to start because nothing is hidden: no store account, no cached app state, no router in the way. Import the USip profile into OpenVPN, check the public address on a third-party site, then open hulu.com in a private window and let an ordinary title run for a minute.

Step by step: the Windows setup guide.

macOS

macOS: the setup and the one thing that catches people

A Mac also works best through a browser, but iCloud Private Relay can send Safari traffic through Apple’s network instead of the OpenVPN route — turn it off for the test. Import the USip profile, confirm the public IP, then play a title in a private Chrome or Safari window. If Chrome works and Safari does not, check Private Relay and Safari’s per-site location permission before touching the connection.

Step by step: the Mac setup guide.

The prices, and the part people find out too late

Hulu’s 2026 prices and the payment rule that blocks most people from Czechia

Two separate facts: what Hulu charges, and what Hulu will take. The first is arithmetic; the second is a rule, and the rule is the harder of the two in Czechia.

On the figures. We keep one copy of Hulu’s plans and prices rather than twenty-three: the tables are on the hub and are checked against Hulu’s plans page, which is the authority whenever the two disagree. One thing worth saying here: there is no free trial on Hulu (With Ads) or Hulu Premium — Hulu limits trials to “the Hulu + Live TV, Disney+, and ESPN plan.”

What Hulu will and will not accept

What Hulu takes

U.S. cards, PayPal, gift cards

Hulu’s own list, in its own words: “We accept U.S. based credit or debit cards like: American Express, Visa, Mastercard, Discover.” PayPal is added separately — “You can also use PayPal to pay for Hulu” — and gift cards are the third route. Nothing issued in Czechia is on that list.

The gift-card trap

It has an end date built in

Gift cards are U.S. retail products redeemed at hulu.com/gift — itself a hulu.com page, with the same location check as the rest of the site. And Hulu says an account funded that way “will automatically cancel after the entire amount on the gift card is used” unless a payment method is added first.

Where we stop

The connection, not the account

USip does not sell gift cards, open accounts, issue cards or change a billing country. Sign-up begins with “To be located within the U.S.” and needs “a U.S.-issued form of payment”; both are between you and Hulu.

Short answers, no hedging

Questions people actually type about Hulu in Czechia

Can I watch Hulu in Czechia?

Only from a U.S. location, with a U.S. Hulu account whose plan includes what you want to watch. U.S. Hulu is not sold in Czechia; Hulu’s help pages say “The videos on Hulu are only available in the U.S.” and that a subscription “is intended for use by members of a single U.S. household.” A residential U.S. IP presents that location; it is not a subscription, and Hulu can decline any address.

Can I subscribe to Hulu in Czechia?

No — there is nothing to subscribe to. Hulu sells in the United States only. What exists in Czechia is the Hulu-branded hub inside Disney+, which was called Star until 8 October 2025 and holds titles licensed for this market. It comes with a Disney+ subscription and it is not a Hulu login.

Am I buying Hulu here?

No. This is a connection, billed separately from anything Hulu charges. You still need your own Hulu account, your own U.S.-issued payment method and whatever plan covers the title. USip does not open accounts, sell gift cards, issue cards or change a billing country.

What is the anonymous proxy error?

Hulu’s way of saying it did not accept where the request came from: “Error playing this video. You appear to be using an anonymous proxy tool,” codes P-EDU101 and BYA-403-011, or Error 16 on iOS. Hulu publishes the causes itself — being outside the United States, a VPN or VPS, an unsupported app, private browsing, or an address “block listed because of previous anonymous proxy use.”

Can I watch Hulu on a Smart TV in Czechia?

Only if the TV’s connection reads a U.S. location — usually a router that carries the U.S. connection — and the Hulu app is available in the device’s store region. Prove the account in a computer browser first; a TV adds store region, cached data and router location on top of everything the browser already tested, and Hulu + Live TV adds a home-network rule that a residential IP does not address.

It still says I am in Czechia. Now what?

Treat it as information rather than a fault. Disconnect, reconnect, confirm the public address on a third-party checker, clear hulu.com cookies and try once in a fresh private window. If it still refuses with a residential U.S. address up, the answer is probably not the network — check the plan, the billing route and the store region before changing anything else.

Is any of this against the rules?

Two different questions. VPN software itself is legal in Czechia. Hulu’s terms are separate and they are the ones that apply to you: Hulu says it “cannot support the use of VPNs or proxies,” that “The videos on Hulu are only available in the U.S.,” and that it can block-list addresses. Read that clause and decide for yourself — we are not going to tell you it does not exist.

Why is the Hulu app missing from my app store?

Because app availability follows the store account’s country, not the connection. The Hulu app is listed in the U.S. App Store and U.S. Google Play. Changing a store country is an Apple or Google decision with real consequences for credit, subscriptions and family sharing — and a browser needs no app at all, which is why the first test belongs there.

Is the Hulu inside Disney+ in Czechia the same as U.S. Hulu?

No. The name is the same because Disney made Hulu its “global General Entertainment brand on Disney+” on 8 October 2025, replacing Star. The library is not: the hub carries what Disney licenses for Czechia, while U.S. Hulu carries the U.S. library under U.S. rights. Some Hulu originals appear in both; most of the U.S. catalogue does not travel.

Will it be fast enough?

There is no intentional cap on our side; the limit is your own line and the distance to the United States. Compare a speed test with and without the connection. An ordinary on-demand episode asks for a fraction of what a live 4K stream does.

I already pay for Hulu. Why did it stop working here?

Because Hulu checks the request, not the history of the account. Its help centre lists “You are accessing Hulu from outside the United States” as the first cause of the anonymous-proxy error, and says subscribers “are able to stream anywhere in the U.S. — including Puerto Rico and U.S. military bases.” Live TV is stricter again: “not able to stream in U.S. territories, on U.S. military bases, or internationally.”

How do I pay for Hulu from Czechia?

Hulu lists three routes: “U.S. based credit or debit cards” (American Express, Visa, Mastercard, Discover), PayPal, and gift cards “available at select retail outlets” that you redeem “online at hulu.com/gift or on your Account page.” A card issued in Czechia is not a U.S. based card, hulu.com/gift needs a U.S. location like every hulu.com page, and a gift balance is not a payment method — the account “will automatically cancel after the entire amount on the gift card is used” unless one is added. This page does not sell or supply any of them.

Why is the local catalogue so much smaller?

Disney+ arrived here in June 2022, several years after Western Europe, so there are fewer legacy acquisitions behind the hub. That is a licensing history, not something a connection changes.

Does a cheaper local Disney+ plan get me U.S. Hulu?

No. Price and catalogue are both set per country, and neither is connected to U.S. Hulu, which is a separate subscription sold only in the United States.
